First semester undergraduate and graduate students admitted to NMSU-Main Campus
The purpose of the Alumni Scholarship program is to offer scholarships to academically qualified international undergraduate
and graduate students who might not otherwise be able to attend New Mexico State University. This program supports New
Mexico State University's mission of internationalization through encouraging cultural diversity on its campus that in turn
promotes international awareness and interactions in the campus community.
A limited number of scholarships are available to international students. An international student awarded this scholarship
will be allowed to pay tuition at the in-state rate and receive a $100 award that will be applied to his/her student account for each
semester the award is received. The scholarship award cannot be automatically deferred to a later semester.

Eligibility
Undergraduates
A. To be eligible for a scholarship, a student must as a freshman:
(1) Have a U.S. equivalent of a high school diploma from an accredited high school and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50,
as determined by the International Admissions Office, and a TOEFL of 500/173; or
(2) Have a U.S. equivalent of a high school diploma from an accredited high school and have a cumulative GPA of 3.00,
as determined by the International Admissions Office, and a TOEFL of 550/213; or
(3) Have a U.S. high school diploma from an accredited high school and have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 with an ACT
score of 26; or
(4) Have a U.S. high school diploma from an accredited high school and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 with an ACT
score of 23.
B. To be eligible for a scholarship, an undergraduate transfer student must:
(1) Have a transfer cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher from an accredited institution; and meet the freshman eligibility
criteria; or,
(2) Have a transfer cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher from an accredited institution.
C. For undergraduate recipients, scholarship eligibility may be renewed for a maximum of eight (8) consecutive semesters or
graduation, whichever comes first. For undergraduate transfer students, eligibility depends on total number of semesters
attended at all previous institutions, for a maximum of eight (8) semesters, or graduation, whichever comes first.
An undergraduate student must successfully complete fourteen (14) graded credit hours and maintain a cumulative GPA of at
least 3.25 each semester.
Graduates
A. To be eligible for a scholarship, a graduate student must:
(1) Have a U.S. equivalent of a bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited institution and a cumulative
GPA of 3.25; or
(2) Have a minimum of 6, up to a maximum of 15, graduate credit hours and have a graduate cumulative GPA of 3.50,
as determined by the International Programs Office;
(3) And a TOEFL of 550/213.
B. For graduate recipients, scholarship eligibility may be renewed for a maximum of four (4) consecutive semesters, or graduation,
whichever comes first. For graduate transfer students, eligibility depends on total number of semesters attended at all
previous institutions, for a maximum of four (4) semesters, or graduation, whichever comes first.
A graduate student must successfully complete nine (9) graded graduate-level credit hours and maintain a cumulative GPA
of at least 3.50 each semester.

First semester undergraduate and graduate students admitted to NMSU-Main Campus

The International Out of State Tuition Waiver Scholarship Program is for students from other countries that have demonstrated
academic excellence. Priority will be given to students from Mexico in recognition of exceptional achievements.
Scholarship recipients receive a waiver of the out-of-state tuition fees. Information on the current in-state tuition rates
is available at http://nmsu.edu/~uar/schcosts.htm.
A limited number of scholarships is available. Awards are made on a continuing basis until all available tuition waivers
have been granted. Scholarships will be given to both graduate and undergraduate students in various majors.
A scholarship award cannot be automatically deferred to a later semester. Scholarship eligibility is determined by the
Office of International and Border Programs (IBP).

Eligibility
Undergraduate Students
A. To be eligible for a scholarship, an entering freshman must:
(1) Have a secondary school or high school diploma and have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (on equivalent
four-point scale);
AND
(2) Meet the English proficiency requirement: 68 iBT or 520 pBT(TOEFL) or 6.0 IELTS
(if required for admission to NMSU).
B. To be eligible for a scholarship, an undergraduate transfer student must:
(1) Have a transfer cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher from an accredited institution (on equivalent
four-point scale);
AND
(2) Meet the English proficiency requirement stated in Section A above if test scores were required for admission
to NMSU.
C. For undergraduate recipients, scholarship eligibility may be renewed for a maximum of eight (8) consecutive semesters or
graduation, whichever comes first. For undergraduate transfer students, eligibility depends on total number of semesters
attended at all previous institutions, for a maximum of eight (8) semesters, or graduation, whichever comes first.
For scholarship renewal an undergraduate student must successfully complete twelve (12) graded credit hours and maintain a
cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 each semester.
Graduate Students
A. To be eligible for a scholarship, a graduate student must:
(1) Have a U.S. equivalent of a bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited institution and a cumulative
GPA of 3.50 (on equivalent four-point scale).
AND
(2) Meet the English proficiency requirement: 79 iBT or 550 pBT (TOEFL) or 6.5 IELTS
(if required for admission to NMSU).
B. For masters students, scholarship eligibility may be renewed for a maximum of four (4) consecutive semesters, or
graduation, whichever comes first.
For PhD. students, scholarship eligibility may be renewed for a maximum of eight (8) consecutive semesters, or
graduation, whichever comes first.
For graduate transfer students, eligibility depends on total number of semesters attended at all previous institutions,
according to the maximum number of semesters described above.
For scholarship renewal a graduate student must successfully complete nine (9) graded graduate-level credit hours and
maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 each semester.
