Learning Outcomes
Adapt and apply efficient troubleshooting methods for documenting internetwork
problems
Compare and contrast generic and vendor specific analysis tools on network routers
and switches
Demonstrate understanding of internetwork design concepts and strategies
Demonstrate development of critical analysis and judgment skills with the framework of
internetwork design
You are required to choose an existing organisation and research on the network design of the
selected organisation. The selected organisation should have at least 30 employees with an
existing network that comprises both LAN and WAN protocols. You should then implement
the following in the network:

Subnetting

VLAN

WAN protocols

Provide justifications for each of your implementation proposals. Based on the network that is
being implemented, research and document the problems faced by the current network and
also the anticipated problems covering the areas in Layer 1, Layer 2 and Layer 3. Suggest the
solution for the derived problem of the network. You should include the network diagram
(logical design) of the organisations network and the proposed design (if any) for the
solution. Your report should also contain the recommended troubleshooting methods to be
adapted by the organization in minimizing the network problems.
Assignment Requirements
1. You are required to work in a group of not more than 4 members.
2. Your report must be typed using Microsoft Word with Times New Roman font size 12.
Expected length is from 3500 to 5000 words. You need to include a word count at the end
of the report. Report should be in 1.5 spaces.
3. You are required to prepare PowerPoint presentation, print out 6 slides in a page and
attach it in the appendices of the assignment.
4. As part of project management, you are required to develop a Gantt chart (project plan)
that indicates clearly the activities required in order for the project to be a success.

5. The report has to be well presented and should be typed. Submission of reports that are
unprofessional in its outlook (dirty, disorganised, inconsistent look, varying coloured
paper and size) will not fare well when marks are allocated.
6. Ensure that the report is printed on standard A4 (210 X 297 mm) sized paper. Paper
weight of 80 grams and above is highly recommended.
7. The report should have a one (1) margin all around the page as illustrated below:

8. The assignment should attach front cover, student declaration form, assignment paper and
marking scheme. A transparent plastic sheet can be placed in front of the report to protect
the front cover.
9. Plagiarism is a serious offence and will automatically be awarded zero (0) mark.
10. All information, figures and diagrams obtained from external sources must be referenced
using the Harvard referencing system accordingly.

You have to hand in your assignment hardcopy on time with the Coursework Submission and
Feedback Form.
Guidelines for the Report:
Document the results of your work in a professional and systematic manner, in the form of a
computerized report. One (1) softcopy and hardcopy of your documentation is to be
submitted.

Marking Criteria:
Distinction
Demonstrated comprehensive research with detailed evidence. High level of analysis
performed, exceptional and thorough knowledge and understanding displayed with regard
application. This includes analysis and evaluation of facts followed by results of evaluation.
Documentation presented in a professional manner, following proper sequencing and flow.
Displayed evidence of critical appraisal.
Credit
Adequate research conducted with fair detail of evidence presented. Moderate level of
understanding, analysis and knowledge displayed. Some level of relevance included in terms of
application. Moderate level of analysis and evaluation of facts followed by results comparison.
Good level of documentation presented. Some level of reflection was evident in the
documentation. Moderate level of critical appraisal.
Pass
Low level research conducted. Some evidence of research displayed. Basic level of
understanding and knowledge analysis displayed. Satisfactory level of documentation. No
