As people’s needs and priorities change, the case management service responds by changing
the services it provides and how they are delivered. As fewer people require case management
support, the VBCMS will naturally become a smaller service. The service will decrease in size
over the course of the two years that it will operate (from February 2009 to February 2011).

Recent information on rebuilding intentions, derived from the case management database and
from housing plans, indicates that the proportion of home owners who intend to rebuild in the
fire affected areas is holding at around 60%.

Counselling/Psychosocial Support
A wide range of counselling services are available to people in the Murrindindi Shire including:
− Lifeline - Kids Helpline
− Parentsline - Mensline
− Nurse on Call - Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement
− Relationships Australia - Allied Psychosocial Services (ATAPS)
Mitchell Community Health Centre is playing a lead role in facilitating local access through their
1800 triage number.
Bushfire Appeal Fund is providing counselling vouchers for people who are bushfire affected.
To date, nearly 1,500 applicants have received vouchers across the state (Murrindindi specific
data not available).

Community Development Program
The Department of Human Services has provided funding to the Shire of Murrindindi for the
appointment of 6 FTE Community Development Officers for twelve months to assist
communities in bushfire recovery. An MOU has been negotiated with the Shire and there is
regular reporting to DHS on CDO activities.
Murrindindi's Community Development Activity Report December 2009 has been submitted.
Extensive Community Development work has occurred with the 6 CRCs, including: facilitation,
advocacy, liaison, planning, report writing, funding applications and Community Recovery
Plans.

DHS Personal Hardship Grants are closed, although some are still being processed or
considered on compassionate grounds on a case by case basis.
Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund – Grants Paid (VBAF) for people who lived in
Murrindindi pre-fire (as at 11 February 2010)

Murrindindi Total $124,535,669

Applications for most of the Appeal Funds 26 financial support packages for individuals closed
on 31 December 2009. People who were unable to apply by that date, or who require
additional time, will now have their applications considered on compassionate grounds on a
case by case basis.
Applications for the Compassionate Financial Support and Safe Removal of Hazardous Trees
will remain open until 28 February 2010.
