PURPOSE
To report the progress on the adaptation of windows 10 by the customers.
INTRODUCTION
Windows 10 is a personal computer operating system developed and released by Microsoft as
part of the Windows NT family of operating systems. It was officially unveiled in September
2014 following a brief demo at Build 2014. The first version of the operating system entered a
public beta testing process in October 2014, leading up to its consumer release on July 29, 2015
and its release to volume licensing on August 1, 2015.
Microsoft described Windows 10 as an "operating system as a service" that would receive
ongoing updates to its features and functionality, augmented with the ability for enterprise
environments to receive non-critical updates at a slower pace, or use long-term support
milestones that will only receive critical updates, such as security patches, over their five-year
lifespan of mainstream support. Windows 10 received mostly positive reviews upon its original
release in July 2015; critics praised Microsoft's decision to downplay user-interface mechanics
introduced by Windows 8 (including the full screen apps and Start screen) in non-touch
environments to provide a desktop-oriented interface in line with previous versions of Windows,
although Windows 10's touch-oriented user interface mode was panned for containing
regressions upon the touch-oriented interface of Windows 8. Critics also praised the
improvements to Windows 10's bundled software over 8.1, Xbox Live integration, as well as the
functionality and capabilities of Cortana personal assistant and the replacement of Internet
Explorer with Edge.
Here we try to analyse the progress made by the new OS among the user with in an year of its
launch.

METHODOLOGY
The method adopted for analyzing and conclusion is as follows. A questionnaire survey
was conducted among the internet population. The Questionnaires were published in social

media websites and circulated through emails. The questionnaire consisted of 9 questions scaling
the user experience of windows 10 and their willingness to adapt to it. About 52 respondents
gave their opinion.
Along with the quantitative data, secondary data was used which were readily available
in the form of customer reviews from the official websites and technical sites. Also expert
opinion and reviews and sales trends were also utilized to assess the progress of the OS.
SUMMARY AND FINDINGS
From the survey conducted everyone is well aware of windows 10 operating system. Out of
the total respondents 71% have used windows 10 while the rest havent used it at least once.
About 55% upgraded to windows 10 while 17% stick with W7 and 25% uses W8.1/8

The comfort ability factor of W10 got mixed response. About 30% had neutral level while 30%
were comfortable. 17% were extremely uncomfortable. This reflected on customers willingness
to upgrade to W10. About 38% are ready while 34% is neutral.

The major prons of W10 according to customers are speed, ease of upgrade and ease of use

The cons identified were mandatory uppgrades, stability issues and driver issues.

W10 are widely impemented on PCs. In mobile phones and in tablets the major preference is
still for google android followed by ios. The customer seems unwilling to buy a W10 phone.

The demographics of the sample are - majority are males and students. The working class is
not using the OS.

Its evident from the data that students are more inclined in new technology and softwares.
Hence they adapt quickly rather than the working group. Also the women community is always
the last in terms of upgrading their OS. Overall the performance of W10 is satisfactory and
people are willing to try it out. Because of the speed and ease of use many are ready to upgrade.
The OS had made significant progress and driven PC sales to new heights. Wit in an year of
launch the OS got widely good reviews and user acknowledgement as the best OS by Microsoft
yet

.
Market share of Windows 10
Its been observed that the windows 7 users are reluctant in upgrading to 10. The main reason
is the stability provided by 7 over 10. Also the hardware and driver issued that can crop up when
upgrading. Mostly older machines run windows 7 which may not be able to run advance OS like
10.

From the above data it is clear that the W10 is here to stay but certain issues are delaying it
growth. The factors include driver issue, mandatory upgrades and stability. W7 is too
comfortable an OS to use hence it is difficult to convince people to use W10 after a very poor
performing W8 and slightly better 8.1.

RECOMMENDATIONS
1. The company should remove the bugs regarding driver issues and release a patch for it
2. The stability factor should be improved so that people can feel confident in upgrading
from W7.
3. Marketing should be done more strongly and advertisement should be more attractive.
4. Inbuilt features like media centre and easy access to control panel should be brought
back.
5. Should focus more on smartphone and tab usability to outrun android.
6. Leverage on the security factor that W10 is more secure and it will be supported for more
than a decade by Microsoft hence longetivity.
7. Focus on more apps and features that will attract working population so that companies
adapt W10 and also women.
8. Transparency should be there regarding the privacy and the data collection from
Microsoft.
CONCLUSIONS
Windows 10 does what it set out to do: Bring the Windows 7-style interface into the tiled
universe. It is, in many ways, what Windows 8 shouldve been. It has all the advancements from
Windows 8 -- security, stability, power saving, and on and on -- with much of the Windows 7
interface fully integrated. Windows 10 makes the old-fashioned desktop an integral part of the
product, instead of an accidental tag-along, as it was in Windows 8 and, to a lesser degree,
Windows 8.1.
The progress report of customer adaptability and user experience for windows 10 gives
positive trends during the 1st year of launch. The product has succeeded in capturing market
attention and attained high adoption rate compared to 8 and 8.1. the issues that hinder its wider
expansion were identified and recommendations are suggested.
