 What is the NATO PA?
 The NATO PA was established in 1955 as a consultative
interparliamentary organisation which unites parliamentarians of the
members states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation

 The NATO PA is composed of 257 delegates from 28 NATO member

states

 Delegates from national parliaments conduct their work in Sessions

which are held twice a year – in the spring and in autumn

 Sessions are organised by all NATO member states in accordance

with the principle of rotation

 Latvia was one of the last countries which had not organised any
Session before
 The NATO PA Riga Session
 Concurrent NATO PA Spring Session will be held on 28 May - 1
June in Riga

 The main venue of the event will be the international exhibition

centre Ķīpsala

 The NATO PA Riga Session is organised by the Steering Committee

headed by H.E. Gundars Daudze, Speaker of the Saeima

 Representatives from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Foreign

Affairs, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry
of Culture, National Radio and Television Council, as well as the
Riga City Council, participate at the meetings of the Steering
Committee
 Who will attend the Riga Session?
 Parliamentarians from 28 NATO member states and 14 associate
member states of the NATO PA
 Delegations from the NATO PA regional partner countries and associate
Mediterranean countries
 Representatives from the European Parliament
 Parliamentary observers
 Representatives from interparliamentary assemblies, namely, the
Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and
Cooperation in Europe, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of
Europe, the European Security and Defence Assembly (the Western
European Union Assembly)
 Accompanying persons, secretaries of delegations, members of the
International Secretariat of the NATO PA, technical staff, interpreters,
and foreign media
