KIDS’ FISHING DAY, Sat., May 15, from 10AM to 12N at Tufton Pond.
Children 12 and under are invited to enjoy a morning of fishing and fun, with help and instruction
from experienced anglers. Parents, please accompany your children for this FREE event, which
includes prizes and a hot dog lunch. Rods and reels will be provided for children who don’t have

NEW TRASH/RECYCLING CONTRACT EFFECTIVE JUNE 1: At its April 22 meeting, the Board authorized a contract with
SDI/Kerkim, LLC, to provide trash and recycling services for the Lake Monticello community. SDI currently serves clients in
Charlottesville and Culpeper, as well as other Virginia localities. The service will be “single stream,” meaning that residents will no
longer have to separate their trash and recycling. The co-mingled refuse will be sorted at the Van de Linde Recycling Center at Zion
Crossroads, resulting in a greater quantity of material being recycled. The process for transition from Waste Management to SDI will be
worked out soon and will be announced in a special flyer that will describe what must be done to implement the change. The flyer will
be delivered to mailbox cubbyholes and posted on the website. An article on the subject also will be included in the Spring/Summer
issue of the Lake Monticello News. The cost of trash and recycling is covered by the annual Improved Property Fee, which
homeowners pay at the same time as their member dues each year.

CHANNEL 10 PROGRAM ABOUT DUES INCREASE PROPOSAL: President Leighton Cumming and Treasurer Mike Harrison will
be guests of cable channel 10’s “This Week at the Lake” on Thurs., May 6, to talk about the Board proposal to increase member
contribution to reserves with an increase in annual dues of $108.The program will be aired at 7PM on the 10th and will be repeated
through Wed., May 12, at 9AM and 7PM daily.

RESERVE STUDY ON WEBSITE: To help members understand how LMOA determines the amount of reserve funding needed for a
long list of items and facilities, the 2010 Reserve Study has been posted on the website at www.lmoa.org under Library, General
Information, Financial Information. The password that is provided will be required to access the study. The file is large, so be patient
while it loads.

CANDIDATE INFORMATION
Å Individual interviews with each of the four Board candidates will broadcast on channel 10 at 7PM on Thurs., May 13, and at
9AM and 7PM daily through May 19.
Å Candidate Forum: The Broadcast Group will present its Candidate Forum on Thurs., May 20, at 7PM in the Terrace Room.
Members are invited to attend the Forum. The candidates will answer questions that have been submitted in writing from members. To
submit questions, send in advance to Peggy Alexander at the Administration Office or email to palexander@lmoa.org. Those in
attendance also may submit written questions before and during the Forum. No questions will be taken from the floor. The Forum will
be broadcast live on channel 10 on the 6th and will be repeated at 9AM and 7PM daily through May 26.

LAKE MONTICELLOP’S TREE DISPOSAL PROGRAM HAS ENDED, and the disposal sites at both Bunker Ballfield and Tufton
Lake are closed. Wood chips are still available at Bunker for residents’ use.

CANCELLATION: The May 6 meeting of the LMOA Planning Committee has been cancelled.

SPRING CLEAN UP WILL END MAY 9: Three dumpsters are located at Tufton Lake for residents to dispose of items too large for
regular trash pick up. No construction debris, tires, batteries, paint, appliances with coolant, household chemicals, tree parts and other
yard debris or regular trash. If you see abuse of this service, please call the LMPD immediately (589-3215), or notify Meg Gore (589-

STATUS OF FISHING PIER CAMPAIGN: Fundraising for the construction of the Community Fishing Pier is making great progress.
Bo’s Pier Group has collected and turned over $11,560 to LMOA for the project. That’s 46% of the estimated $25,000 needed to
construct the pier. There still are outstanding pledges in the amount of $740. The pier is a community project and will be built at Tufton
Lake with donations and volunteer labor. It will give all residents easy access to a great place to fish or simply to enjoy the beauty of
nature. If you have not yet contributed to this project, please help make it a reality for our community. Donation forms are available at
the Administration Office or on the website at www.lmoa.org. Just click on the link on the homepage.
A SMART THING TO DO: Clearing leaves and debris from culverts prevents erosion and damage to driveways, drainage ditches
and roads. Most importantly, it helps prevent silt and sediment buildup in our lake and keeps its ecosystem healthy.
