Conor Burns visits ITSB

Conor Burns with (l-r) ITSBs Technical Director Olly Denhard,

Founder and MD Lee Dredge and Marketing and Sales Director
Rob Jelley.
On Wednesday 30 March Conor paid a visit to local company ITSB
(Internet Support Business) at their offices in Westbourne. He was
given a tour of their premises and was able to discuss with staff the
importance of businesses protecting themselves from cyber crime.
ITSB specialise in delivering robust and future proof IT solutions and
support to businesses and the education sector and have major
concerns as to the number of businesses that are open to hacking and
cyber crime. They say that most companies and individuals have no
idea how serious cyber crime has become.

Conor Burns at Wessex Cancer Trust

care centre in Bournemouth.
Wessex Cancer Trust have opened a new facility that provides
support to those suffering from, living with or having survived
cancer.
Conor visited the new cancer care centre in Bournemouth where
he met with staff and volunteers and had a tour of the centre
which offers support from the community rather than hospital in a
non-clinical environment open to all ages. A range of services
are on offer from support groups, counselling, complementary
therapies to workshops. The centre also gives provision for folk
to simply drop in for a chat and a coffee with the staff and
volunteers who understand what families and friends experience
when someone close to them is diagnosed with cancer.
The centre is funded from donations from business, individuals,
fundraising and charity shops in the Wessex area.

30 bags of rubbish collected during

Westbourne's Clean for the Queen

Bournemouth Council Cllr John Beesley, and Rev Chris Colledge.

Wednesday 23rd March 2016
Residents, traders and the
leader of Bournemouth Council
collected around 30 bags of rubbish from green spaces in Westbourne.
Bournemouth in Bloom's litter pick around shops and businesses in
Poole Road and Seamoor Road was held on Saturday, March 19, as
part of the Clean for the Queen initiative, which saw an appearance by
the Easter Bunny from Chocol8, based in Westbourne.
John Beesley, leader of Bournemouth Council who also represents the
Westbourne ward, Conor Burns MP for Bournemouth West, Martyn
Underhill, Dorset's Police and Crime Commissioner, residents and
some members of Westbourne in Bloom, Westbourne Rotary and the
Dorset Devils all took part in the event.
Rev Chris Colledge, chairman of Bournemouth in Bloom, said: "We
collected so much litter. We did all the roads around the main parades
of shops and the bushes and perimeters around the shops.
"There was an incredible amount of bottles and rubbish close to the
doctor's surgery. We probably collected about 30 bags of rubbish in
total. It was a real community effort from everybody."
Reverend Chris Colledge said that a particular focus of their attention
was the area next to the Ralph Millward Memorial by Marks and
Spencer (M&S) on Seamoor Road.
"We arranged for the plants to be taken out from the raised borders by
the seated area, which were pretty ugly. We are working with the
council to remove the old plants and make it into a sensory and tactile
garden for people who are blind to be able to smell and feel all the
plants."
Big Issue seller, Ralph Millward, was killed by three youths in May
2009 and was a popular member of the Westbourne community,
whose pitch was based outside of the M&S.
Reverend Chris Colledge says that local schools are working with the
Bournemouth in Bloom team to promote the creation of the sensory
garden, which will also teach them about those who are not able to
use all five senses.
Gary Penfold, the manager of the Westbourne branch of Marks and
Spencer, arranged for all participants to enjoy some refreshments.
He told Mr College that the store were pleased to assist the
community and especially support such a worthwhile effort being
made to improve the local environment.
Last month Daily Echo reported that Bournemouth in Bloom has been
listed as a finalist in the national Britain in Bloom competition.

Public Affairs Nick Vaughn and Wayne Lewis.
On the 31 March Conor met with staff from BT Openreach to learn
more about broadband provision in the constituency.
Conor had the opportunity to talk with the engineers responsible for
connecting Bournemouth West to superfast and fibre broadband and
learnt that 99.3 per cent of the constituency now has superfast
coverage of over 30 megabits per second (Mbps).

Conor Burns at Inferno Media

Conor with Mitchell Stewart, founder of Inferno Media.

On Friday 1 April Conor visited the award-winning social media
business Inferno Media, founded by 19-year old Mitchell Stewart.
Based in the centre of town, Conor heard how Mitchells company is
working with clients across the country and working locally with the
Bournemouth Tourism Awards. Conor learnt how the business has
expanded over the past 12 months to employ a team of six, including
young people from Bournemouths universities and colleges, and how
they are soon to take on an apprentice.
