7.1. Title: Configuring DHCP server


7.2. Objective:
On completion of this visit/ practical exercise, the participant will be able:
a) Work with DHCP server.
7.3. Venue/Site: Training Location
[*In training locations where the required equipment / set-up is not
available, the same will be carried out through field visit]
7.4. Set up/Equipments Required:
a) PC
b) Switch
c) Straight UTP cables
d) DHCP server software
7.5. Reports to be taken/ referred:

7.6. Exercise:
a) Select any three PCs in LAB and connect them via switch using
Ethernet port and straight cables.
b) Go on PC -1 and Open control panel and then open network and
sharing center. Here you will find one LAN icon. Right click on
LAN icon and select properties and in the opening window select
TCP/IP V4 and then select the properties and assign IP address
192.168.1.1 and mask 255.255.255.0.
c) Install DHCP server installation file, i.e. dhcpwiz.exe. when you
double click on this then a wizard will open. Here click on next.

d) Select the network interface card on which you want to configure


DHCP server and which is intercting over the network. Here selct
local area connection.

e) Click on next then DNS check box and assign IP address of DNS
8.8.8.8. and click next.

f) Now specify the IP address pool for allocation to client i.e.


192.168.1.2 255 and then click on advance option.

g) In advance option configure DNS as 218.248.240.211 and gateway


as 192.168.1.1 and click OK and then next.

h) Now select the write INI option to create the log files and then
click next.
i) Now select start button to start the DHCP server and finish the
wizard. Your DHCP server is now started.

j) Go on to PC 2 and Open control panel and then open network


and sharing center. Here you will find one LAN icon. Right click
on LAN icon and select properties and in the opening window
select TCP/IP V4 and then select the properties and select obtain IP
address automatically and click ok to complete wizard.
k) Now open command prompt and type ipconfig command to see
which IP address has assigned to PC -2
l) Repeat above two steps for PC -3 and verify the assigned IP
address.
