Bible Reading: Mark 6:1-13; 1 Corinthians 10:1-13; Psalm 84; Judges 6-7
Eph 5:1 says, Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And
walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and a sacrifice to God.
This verse tells us what LOVE looks like practically: as Christ loved us
so we are called to love, and this love moved him to action in which he
gave himself up for us. The question then comes to you: Do you consider
yourself a loving person? In what ways this week are you giving yourself
up for the sake of others? You need not bleed as Christ did, but you must
give yourself up as Christ did: in your preferences, your choices, your use of
your time, and your desires. You must choose to consider others as more
important than yourself and thus let your life become, as Christ did, a
fragrant offering and a sacrifice to God.
This verse also gives us insight into the heart motive behind LOVE. As
beloved children look up to their parents and do just as they do, so we too
look up to our heavenly Father with appreciation in our child-faith eyes and
a familial desire to do as he would do. He is a loving Father, so we long to
be loving children. If you want to be a loving person, you must learn to see
the Father with eyes of faith and you must learn to look to the example of
the Son, who loved perfectly, and gave himself up for us.
