Notes

A. The following questions are close-ended technical questions. They are of fundamental nature with
moderate difficulty. Job applicants with engineering knowledge should be familiar with this knowledge.
B. Additionally, the questions would be based on the Canadian Engineering Curriculum and my internship
experience, benchmarking Macau's regulations and laws in the industry of engineering.
C. Answers will be in point form
D. Answers will be in English. If possible, answers would be in Chinese.
Question 1 (Environmental)
What is E.I.A.?
(reference: http://www.dspa.gov.mo/e_about1.aspx)
EIA stands for Environmental Impact Assessment /

Question 2 (Environmental Cont.)

Please describe the general process of E.I.A. and the practice in Macau.
(Screening) (Scoping)
(Detailed prediction and mitigation studies) (Audit)(Implementation) (managing
and monitoring)
Question 3 (Environmental Cont.)
Dirreo dos Servios de Proteco Ambiental had issued several publications related to the E.I.A.
List them. (Legislation regarding compulsory EIA regime is not mature in Macau, listing such
documents are thus important for these documents guide the process of E.I.A. in Macau)

2013 ()

Question 4 (Environmental Cont.)

Technically, in the 2014 publication of , what aspect of the

environment should be included in E.I.A?
(Air Quality)
(Aquatic/ Water Quality)
(Ecological Quality)
(Impact of Noise)
(solid waste management)
(soil pollution)
(Vehicular air particulates)2010 -2020
Question 5 (Environmental Cont.)
In the DSPA publication 2010 -2020 What vehicular air
pollutants are measured in Macau? Please answer with units.

Units are in g/km. (gram/kilometer)

NOx(Nitrogen oxides)

PM10(Particulate matter 10 micrometers or less in diameter)

PM2.5(Particulate matter 2.5 micrometers or less in diameter)
THC(Tetra-hydro-canna-bi-nol)
CO(Carbon monoxide)
SO2(Sulfur dioxide)

Question 6 (Geotechnical)
1. What is site investigation ()? (Reference: Essentials of Soil Mechanics and
Foundations) g
Site investigation refers to the procedure of determining surfaces and
subsurface conditions in an area of proposed construction.
Surface and subsurface features may influence what can be built and will
directly affect the design and construction procedures relating to how a
structure is built.
Question 7 (Geotechnical)
2. What is the vertical normal stress resulting from the following soil mass?

Question 8 (Geotechnical)
A concrete basement wall for a structure extends below the groundwater table. For
conditions indicated by the sketch, calculate the total lateral pressure acting against
the wall at a point 8 ft below the ground surface.

Where K o = Coefficient of lateral pressure for the at-rest condition
