The purpose of this document is to detail out the standard procedure to ensure
smooth, safe checking of ETS Interlock and Protection to increase the reliability &
ensure the healthiness of system.
2. TECHNICAL SPCIFICATION
OEM Guidelines : Annexure-I
3. RESPONSIBILITY
Area In charge C&I Department
1. To apply for permit as per the schedule.
2. Ensure necessary isolations before starting the work.
3. To ensure the completion of the activities as per the SMP and to check all the
parameters as per the check list.
4. Ensure housekeeping after completing the work.
5. Returning the permit.
Shift Manager Operation
1. To ensure availability of the equipment for maintenance as per planned time interval.
2. To ensure issuance of Work Permit complying with the safety requirements as
required.
3. To ensure Isolations done as per SOP.
4. Cancellation of the Work Permit after completion of the work.
5. Normalization of the system and trial run.

6. STANDARD PROCEDURE

Take the PTW and ensure the required isolations have been done.

Check the TURBINE is in trip condition.


Check following before going to LATCH the turbine.
Removing of Generator protection shut-off cable from ETS panel.
Removing of condenser vacuum cable from ETS panel.
Removing of MFT cable from ETS panel.
Start EH oil pump and Lube oil pump and check for normal pressure.
Give the latch command and ensuring the Latch by ZS1. Check the interlock and
protection as
per the ANNEXURE-1
Return the PTW & REPORT in WO.

Interlock checking Procedure

Shaft Vibration Shut OFF :


1.1 Make a provision for all the condition for the Turbine trip should be healthy.
1.2 Connect the epro system software to the hardwire epro MODEL MMS 6110 reduce
the setting near to zero. check for the high vibration
1.3 Ensure the STATUS of Turbine in SOE (Sequence of Events) and ALARM History.
Note down the FIRST OUT cause for TRIP.
1.4 Normalise the setting of vibration 127micron alarm and 250 micron danger.

EH oil pressure low Shut OFF:


2.1 Start the EH Oil Pump and check for the normal pressure (14MPa).
2.2 Close the Inlet isolating valve for two oil pressure switches & open the Drain valve
.Observe the Changeover of the switch contacts (NO contact to NC contact).
2.3 Ensure the STATUS of Turbine trip in SOE (Sequence of Events) and ALARM
History. Note down the FIRST OUT cause for TRIP.
2.4 Normalize the isolation and close the drain of switches

Lube oil pressure low Shut OFF:


3.1 Start the lube Oil Pump and check for the normal pressure.
3.2

Close the Inlet isolating valve for two oil pressure switches & open the Drain
valve .Observe the Changeover of the switch contacts (NO contact to NC contact).

3.3 Ensure the STATUS of Turbine trip in SOE (Sequence of Events) and ALARM
History. Note down the FIRST OUT cause for TRIP.
3.4 Normalize the isolation and close the drain of switches.

Vacuum of condenser low Shut OFF:


4.1

Connect the portable vaccume calibrator instrument, and set the vaccume up to
the -100KPa.

4.2

Close the Inlet isolating valve for two vaccume switches & open the Drain
valve .Observe the Changeover of the switch contacts (NO contact to NC contact).

4.3 Ensure the STATUS of Turbine trip in SOE (Sequence of Events) and ALARM
History. Note down the FIRST OUT cause for TRIP.
4.4 Normalize the isolation and close the drain of switches.

LP Exhaust Temparature High Shut OFF:


5.1

Remove the RTD cable from TB in Junction Box.

5.2

Connect the Decade resistance Box in place of RTD cables.

5.3

Adjust the resistance of the Decade resistance Box according to the


Temperatures as per the RTD RESISTANCE Vs TEMERATURES TABLE. Refer
ANNEXURE-II.

5.4

Gradually increase the resistance of the decade box according to temperature


of 120 degree C. Alarm will come at the temperature of

degree C (ohms) .A

little increase above 120 degree C(146.07 ohms) shall TRIP the turbine. Check
the STATUS of ID fan in SOE (Sequence of Events) and ALARM History

Axial Displacement Shut OFF:


6.1

Make a provision for all the condition for the Turbine trip should be
healthy.

6.2

Connect the epro system software to the hardwire epro MODEL MMS 6210
reduce the setting near to zero. Check for the high vibration.

6.3

Ensure the STATUS of Turbine in SOE (Sequence of Events) and ALARM


History. Note down the FIRST OUT cause for TRIP.

6.4

Normalise the setting of axial displacement upper danger alarm 1.20mm and
lower danger alarm -1.65mm.

DEH Failure:
7.1

Make a provision for all the condition for the Turbine trip should be healthy.

7.2

Stop/Fail the DC 230 V power supply this will give the DEH failure.

7.3

Ensure the STATUS of Turbine in SOE (Sequence of Events) and ALARM


History. Note down the FIRST OUT cause for TRIP.

Boiler MFT Shut OFF:


1.1

Make a provision for all the condition for the Turbine trip should be
healthy.

Simulate the MFT signal from DCS .check for the turbine trip.

Generator Protection shut OFF:


9.1

Make a provision for all the condition for the Turbine trip should be healthy.

Simulate the Generator CB signal from Electrical. Check for the turbine trip.

9.3

Ensure the STATUS of Turbine in SOE (Sequence of Events) and ALARM


History. Note down the FIRST OUT cause for TRIP.

10 Manual Shut OFF:


10.1

Make a provision for all the condition for the Turbine trip should be healthy.

10.2

Press the Emergency push button of turbine trip from desk.

10.3

Ensure the STATUS of Turbine in SOE (Sequence of Events) and ALARM


History.

Note down the FIRST OUT cause for TRIP.

11 Bearing metal Temparature High Shut OFF:


11.1

Remove the RTD cable from TB in Junction Box.

11.2

Connect the Decade resistance Box in place of RTD cables.

11.3

Adjust the resistance of the Decade resistance Box according to the


Temperatures as per the RTD RESISTANCE Vs TEMERATURES TABLE. Refer
ANNEXURE-II.

11.4 Gradually increase the resistance of the decade box according to temperature
of 110 degree C. Alarm will come at the temperature of

degree C (ohms) .A

12 Thrust metal Temparature High Shut OFF:

Remove the RTD cable from TB in Junction Box.

Connect the Decade resistance Box in place of RTD cables.

Adjust the resistance of the Decade resistance Box according to the

13 HP-LP Differential Expansion Shut OFF:
13.1 Make a provision for all the condition for the Turbine trip should be healthy.
13.2 Connect the epro system software to the hardwire epro MODEL MMS 6120
reduce the setting near to zero. HP-Differential Expansion.
13.3 Ensure the STATUS of Turbine in SOE (Sequence of Events) and ALARM
History. Note down the FIRST OUT cause for TRIP.
13.4 Normalise the setting of HP-Differential Expansion upper danger alarm
6.20mm and lower danger alarm -3.20mm.
13.5

Connect the epro system software to the hardwire epro MODEL MMS 6120
reduce the setting near to zero. LP-Differential Expansion.

13.6

Ensure the STATUS of Turbine in SOE (Sequence of Events) and ALARM


History. Note down the FIRST OUT cause for TRIP.

13.7 Normalise the setting of HP-Differential Expansion upper danger alarm


7.20mm and lower danger alarm -6.20mm.

13.11 Normalise the setting of OPC to 3300rpm

Cut / Crush Injury or Personal injury while performing activity.
b) Precaution to be taken :
Unauthorized person not allowed checking for checking ETS conditions.
c) SAFTEY PPEs :
Helmet with chin strip, Ear Plugs, Safety Goggles, Hand Gloves, Nose masks, safety
harness etc.

8. QUALITY CHECKS/VALIDATION
1.

Ensure set points or trigger point of Vibration, Pressure switches, Tx & RTD.

2.

Ensure related alarms & SOE events get logged at DCS end.

9. DOS & DONTS


DOs:

Ensure Auxiliary in Test mode before giving command from DCS.

2.

Restore all simulations after checking ETS interlocks.

DONTs:

Dont start work without taking PTW.

individuals & Auxiliary by tripping in critical conditions.
