Meet your favourite DJʼs & Presenters

Jake Goddard
The Breakfast Show

I would like to introduce you to Mr Jake Goddard, one

of our new presenters of The Breakfast show.
Born and lived most of his life in Penarth, music has
played a huge role in Jake’s life from a very early age.
His father played Bass Guitar in a band called The
Sunset’s and at one time supported Shaking Stevens.
Jake can fondly remember times on the road with his
fathers band, Happy memories of being a child at
various festivals bring a smile to his face.
It was these memories that inspired Jake to form his
own band as a teenager, a HipHop collective?
Unfortunately but not surprisingly Ripshift, as they
were called, did not make it into the mainstream.
Undeterred Jake did not give up on music, switching
his focus to the production side of the studio.
Since the young age of fifteen he has been working
hard at mastering the art of production and states his
ideal job as a sound engineer.

We caught up with the man himself at the RC studio

and asked him a few questions........

When Francesca Met Mclean.

Having checked out Mclean on YouTube before

the interview, comments on his video mostly
claimed he looked like 50 cent, and I wasn’t
entirely disagreeing. I wondered if, when I
spoke to him, if I should ask him if he knew
that he was being compared to fiddy (looks
wise, at least) and if he had the bullet holes to
match? As it happened, there was no need.
With his relaxed and friendly demeanour and
sharp wit and earnest attitude, he reminded
me more of a better looking Chris Rock.

Mclean, known since childhood as Digga, is

the son of 60s Lovers Rock star John Mclean,

career. “Seeing my father perform really had At the time of interview, his new offering My

Most asylum seekers don’t have the luxury of

traumatised. How do you begin to assimilate into a
society that sees you as a resource draining enemy
the moment you arrive?

As you may have guessed, I’m writing this to tell

you about a place that can help. Situated on East
Grove (corner of Newport road and City Road), is
the Oasis Café and drop-in centre. Its mission
statement is to provide refugees and asylum
seekers a means to integrate into their local
community of Cardiff. In reality, it’s much more
than that.

Reynette assures me that anyone can volunteer,

Whatʼs Hot In Cardiff

The Poetʼs Corner

If you have not recently been along to a Greene King pub then
you really need to get yourself down to your local asap!

There are many in Cardiff, The Poet’s Corner, The Corporation,

The Griffin, The Clive and The Claude.
With five to choose from i’m always spoilt for choice, I must admit
though my personal favourite is The Poet’s Corner, City Road.

It has that lovely laid back atmosphere that most public houses
lost during the late nineties early naughties, once binge drinking
came into play. Even on a Saturday night you will find a wonderful
mix of generations, all in attendance for the same reason, to relax
and laugh their troubles away.
It has the feeling of being ‘your local’ even if it’s your first time
there, plus £5.99 for a bottle of wine always goes down well!

I recently (very naughty) decided to pop in for a spot of launch, to

my amazement both myself and my launch date eat for well under
£10!
Now usually for that price you expect a small portion of something
that ultimately could be anything, due to lack of flavour and size.
That certainly was not the case. I throughly enjoyed a well
presented Yorkie Wrap (thin slice beef in a yorkshire pudding
wrap) with chips, a gravy boat and horse radish for dipping. My
launch date had a huge burger and chips that looked so good that
I wanted that also, that always happens to me, devastating!

Both meals were fantastic, well presented, well cooked, well

served, what more can you ask for on a boring wednesday
afternoon to break up your week.

The £8-ish bill was also something 2 smile about, after that
shocker my first thought was that a bottle of £5.99 blossom hill
was needed......
