ACTIVITIES IN 2008

A. EDUCATION & DEVELEPMENT

2. Website Designing The department is yet to have its own website. So the project is still undergoing a thorough
inspection. At least 30% of the website is finished. Due to the financial problem, the
website is yet to be finished this month.
January – September 2008
3. Korean Day Korean Day 2008
As part of its annual activities to give constant exposure to Korean language, the Korean
Day Festival is to be held once again in October 2008. The movie screening, food festival,
debate contests are to be held.

4. Writing Competition 6 students with high capability in writing and idea expression are eligible to receive a
funding in making any writing/essays on Korea
(April, May, Sept. 2008). Two students each period.

5. Scholarships 1. KOICA Scholarship


* The previous KOICA volunteers servicing their term at Gadjah Mada established a
forum to give scholarships to students learning Korean language.
This first opportunity,. The scholarship was awarded to 9 students from Korean language
department. Each received Rp 500,000 (about US $ 50) or as much as the school fee at
Gadjah Mada University
It was delivered to students on March 6, 2008.

2. PAS Scholarship

* This scholarship comes from PAS (Pacific Asia Society). As many as 4 students
received this scholarship. Each received Rp 500,000) based on their merits in academic
achievement.
3. Korean Society Scholarship, for 5 students, Rp 1 million each
4. KORINDO Scholarship for 5 students, Rp 2 million each

6. Open Recruitment from PT On March 5, 2008. PT Samsung Electronics Indonesia made a visit to the Department of
SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS Korean language, UGM to interview students who were willing to work at PT Samsung.
Indonesia Out of 30 students, 6 are officially short-listed to be working at PT Samsung. 3 of them are
graduates, the other 3 are still students in their last semester. They are expected to work at
PT Samsung starting this April. While the other 3 after they finish their study at the
Department.

B. RESEARCH

1. Monthly Discussions on Korean 6 times in ( Mar. May. June, Sept. Oct. Nov. 2008)

2. Academic Visit to Korean The plan is to visit Samsung, LG, and other Korean companies
Companies operating in around Jakarta. (under process)
Indonesia (November, 2008)

3. Workshop on Korea for High This annual activity is held in Gadjah Mada University to give
School Teachers from Java, chances for High School teachers to learn more about Korea. This
Sumatra, and Kalimantan project is fully funded by Korea Foundation. This time, it is held on
April 8 -10, 2008. as many as 60 high school from 60 invited high
schools are to participate in the event.
4. Pasific Asia Society (PAS) Visit Kunjungan 30 mahasiswa dari berbagai universitas di Korea yang
to Korean language Department tergabung dalam PAS yang berencana berkolaborasi dengan sekitar
50 mahasiswa S1 + D3 Korea untuk mengadakan kegiatan penelitian,
seni, diskusi selama 3 minggu di Jogjakarta.
