Missouri FFA Association names

2016 FFA Choir members
The Missouri FFA Association has selected Colin Joesting and Troy Wennihan,
both Tarkio High School
FFA Chapter members, as
2016 State FFA Choir members. Joestings parents are
Steve and Julie Joesting.
Wennihans parents are
Mike and Dena Wennihan.
Their advisor is Mr. Dustin
Lambertsen.
Joesting and Wennihan
are two of 180 individuals
chosen for the FFA All-State
Choir. Students rehearse
and perform at the State
FFA Convention in Columbia, Missouri, held April 2122, 2016. FFA members have
the opportunity to share
their musical talent in front
of a crowd of over 8,000 FFA
members and guests on Friday afternoon and evening
April 22.
FFA members are selected based upon their musical
ability through an applica-

tion process for the FFA AllState Choir. Beth Dampf,

choral director, Jefferson
City High School, directs the
All-State FFA Choir.
The Missouri FFA Association is a youth organization of over 25,900 student
members preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture with 340

Tuesday, April 26 - Breakfast - Sausage breakfast
pizza, cherries, juice, and milk; and Lunch - Country fried
steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, fresh orange, pear halves, bread and butter, juice, and milk.
Wednesday, April 27 - Breakfast - French toast, pear,
juice, and milk; and Lunch - Pepperoni pizza, broccoli with
cheese, corn, applesauce, mixed fruit, and milk.
Thursday, April 28 - Breakfast - Biscuit and gravy,
mixed fruit, juice, and milk; and Lunch - Frito pie, romaine lettuce, cheese, refried beans, mixed veggies, mandarin oranges, sliced peaches, and milk.
Friday, April 29 - Breakfast - Yogurt, muffin, pear,

County Government Day

Atchison County Government Day 2016 was held at

the courthouse in Rock Port,
Missouri, on April 12. The
day began with a call to order by Tim Morehouse, commander of the Tarkio Legion
Post.
Curt Livengood, Presiding
Commissioner, introduced
the county officials who gave
a description of what their
job entailed. Sheriff Dennis
Martin gave the invocation
and led in singing of the national anthem.
The Pledge of Allegiance
was led by Kelly Daugherty
of Rock Ports Ralph Greer
American Legion Post. A
flag folding ceremony was
held with legion members
folding the flag. Commander
Morehouse read the meaning of each fold.
Jim Crawford from the
Missouri
Extension
office presented a history of
Atchison County. Teresa

Morehouse talked about the

C.A.R.E. program. There
was a film on texting while
driving, presented by the
Missouri State Highway
Patrol. A flag retirement
ceremony was held in front
of the courthouse while students sat on the lawn.
Everyone enjoyed a lunch
provided by Legion Auxiliary members.
An actual live court was
held with Judge Corey Herron presiding.
County Government Day
is held for students from
the county schools. The purpose is to give them an idea
of what is involved in the
day-to-day operation of our
county because they are our
future voters and possible
employers. It is sponsored
by the local American Legion and Auxiliary units
from Fairfax #284, Westboro #32, Rock Port #49 and
Tarkio #199.

Tarkio High School seniors

preparing for end-of-school events
The 2015-16 school year
is nearing its end and with
that comes end-of-school
events for Tarkio High
School seniors. The students
will be extremely busy these
last two months.
Jr./Sr. Prom
Seniors will be attending
their last Tarkio High School
Junior/Senior Prom on Saturday, April 30, from 8 to 11
p.m. at the Tarkio Community Building. A promenade,
which is open to the public,
will take place at 7 p.m.
at the Tarkio High School
Gym. The promenade will
allow for all parents, family,
and community members to
take pictures of all prom attendees.
Baccalaureate
Seniors will participate
in a baccalaureate service,
sponsored by the Tarkio/
Westboro Ministerial Alliance, on Sunday, May 1. A
dinner for the seniors and
their parents and grandparents will be held at the
Tarkio Assembly of God
Church at 6 p.m., followed
by the service at 7 p.m. Seniors are to wear their caps
and gowns.
SPRING CONCERT
The Tarkio Junior High
Band and Choir and Tarkio
Elementary 5th and 6th
Grade Band Concert will be
held Wednesday, May 4, at
6:00 p.m. in the auditorium.
The THS Spring Concert
and Awards Night for the
high school band and choir
will also be on May 4, but
will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the
auditorium.

They will also be asked
to don their caps and gowns
again on Friday, May 6, for
professional class and individual pics at 1 p.m. at the
school. This day also marks
the last day of school for the
seniors.
SENIOR TRIP
On Sunday, May 8, the
seniors will embark on their
senior trip to Branson, MO.
The students are to arrive
at 7:30 a.m. and the bus
will leave at 8 a.m. sharp.
The students will return on
Wednesday, May 11.
PRACTICE
On Thursday, May 12,
from 8 to 11:30 a.m., the
seniors will practice their
walk-ins into the THS Gym
for the graduation ceremony.
All seniors must attend this
practice.
AWARDS ASSEMBLY
On Friday, May 13, the
seniors will again meet in
the gym at 8 a.m. for a walkthrough before being treated to breakfast at the Tarkio
United Methodist Church.
At 1 p.m., the senior awards
assembly will begin in the
gym. (seniors are to meet
at 12:30 p.m. in Mrs. Wennihans room). Attendance is
required by the seniors and
family and friends are also
invited.
GRADUATION
The graduation ceremony
will take place on Sunday,
May 15, at 2 p.m. in the
THS Gym. The seniors are
to meet in Mrs. Wennihans
room between 1 and 1:30
p.m.

The reorganization meeting of the Tarkio R-I Board

of Education was held
Thursday, April 14, 2016,
at Tarkio High School. The
meeting was called to order
by President Steve Klute at
7:30 p.m. Board members
in attendance were Chris
Yates, Corey Lesher, Jamie Barnett, Lydia Hurst,
Bruce Lang, Rachel Graves,
Steve Klute, and board secretary Diane Hicks. Others
in attendance were Tarkio
R-I Superintendent Dr.
Pat Martin, Tarkio High
School Principal Luke Cox,
Tarkio Elementary Principal Sherry Herron, Carrie
Livengood, Melody Barnett,
Terry Wooten, Renee Hull,
Dallas Prather, Lois Wiley,
Billie Schneider, Suzanne
Brought, Blu Dow, and Margo Ellis.
The oath of office was administered to school board
members Corey Lesher,
Chris Yates, Lydia Hurst,
and Bruce Lang by Superintendent Martin. Dr. Martin
presided over the election
of officers. Bruce nominated
Steve Klute for the office
of President. Jamie moved
that nominations cease. Rachel seconded. The motion
carried 7-0. Jamie nominated Rachel Graves for the office of Vice-President. Corey
moved that nominations
cease. Lydia seconded. Bruce
nominated Diane Hicks for
the secretary office. Rachel
moved to cease nominations.
Lydia seconded. The motion
carried 7-0. Bruce nominated Lanette Hogue for treasurer. Lydia moved to cease
nominations. Jamie Barnett
abstained. The motion carried 6-1-0.
The consent agenda,
March 17, 2016, meeting
minutes, and the transfer of
incidental funds to special
revenue to pay certificated
salaries were all approved.
The district obligations were
also approved.
Renee Hull was in attendance to present the CTA
report. The elementary has
been busy with field trips
and learning new units to
study. The high school music
students, as well as FCCLA,
FFA, and FBLA Chapters
are all busy with state competitions and getting ready
to tackle EOCs.
The 2016-17 calendar
change of the PD day to
March 6, 2017, was ap-

proved. Dr. Martin made the

presentation of increasing
the sub pay for all substitutes to $90 per day. Lydia
moved to increase the pay
to $85.00 per day. Rachel
seconded. The roll call vote
was: Jamie no, Corey no,
Chris no, Lydia yes, Bruce
no, Rachel yes, and Steve no.
The motion failed 5-2. Bruce
moved and Corey seconded
to pay all subs $90.00 per
day. The roll call vote was
Jamie yes, Corey yes, Chris
yes, Lydia no, Bruce no, Rachel yes, and Steve yes. The
motion carried 6-1.
Mrs. Livengood reported
that five students had attended the Transition Skills
Fair Day. She also reported
the paras had been treated
to a potluck lunch with gifts
for Para Day.
Mrs. Herron reported that
attendance in the elementary was 97% for the month
of March. The GLA testing
is slated to start the week of
April 18th and run through
May 6th.
Mr. Cox reported the High
School Leadership Team
has met and are going over
the student handbook, student/staff concerns, and job
descriptions for extra-curricular positions in the high
school. Mr. Cox also reported
on the many happenings in
the high school.
Melody Barnett requested approval for students to
attend the overnight state
music trip. Troy Wennihan
and Colin Joesting received
a I rating on vocal solos and
will be attending state music. The board members voted to approve the overnight
trip.
The board members voted to table the Elementary
Tech Proposal to obtain further information.
Rachel moved and Bruce
seconded to advertise for
bids to resurface the elementary playground area.
The motion carried 7-0. All
board members voted to
approve one new subtitute
teacher.
Mr. Lambertsen made a
proposal to purchase crop
insurance and donate to the
chapter. All board members
voted to approve the proposal.
The meeting moved into
closed session at 8:08 p.m. to
record and vote pursuant to
RSMo 610.021 .1 .3 .6 .13.
