TEORI
Gerund adalah kata kerja (verb) yang ditambahkan bentuk ing dan berfungsi sebagai kata benda
(noun)
Contoh : Swimming, dancing, reading, chatting, etc.
Ada 3 macam gerund:
1. Gerund sebagai Subject
Contoh:
a. Swimming makes me healthy.

(Berenang membuat saya sehat)
Swimming berfungsi sebagai subject.
b. Collecting stamps is fun.
S
V
c. Swimming and dancing are good for refreshment (berenang dan berdansa bagus untuk
penyegaran)
2. Gerund sebagai Object
Kata kerja (verb) yang biasa diikuti gerund adalah :
Enjoy, appreciate, avoid, delay, mind,
quit, postpone, keep, consider, like,
finish, cant stand (tidak tahan),
suggest, regret, admit
Contoh :
a. she enjoys dancing
(dia suka berdansa)
b. Do you mind helping me?
(apakah kamu keberatan menolong saya?)
c. They have finished writing.
(Mereka telah selesai menulis)
Dari ke 3 kalimat tersebut, dancing, helping, dan writing adalah gerund yang
berfungsi sebagai kata benda (noun). Sehingga bisa ditambahkan Possessive Adjective (my,
your, his, her, our, their).
Contoh :
a. She enjoys Alis dancing.
She enjoys his dancing
(wanita itu menikmati berdansanya si Ali)
b. They have finished their writing.
(Mereka telah menyelesaikan tulisan mereka)
3. Gerund sebagai Object of Preposition
Seperti kita ketahui, preposition adalah kata depan. Contoh : in, on, at, up, for, after, before,
with, without, of, to. Preposition harus diikuti oleh Gerund (Verb + ing).
Contoh :
a. Thank you for coming.
For
= Preposition
Coming = verb + ing (gerund)
b. How about going to the cinema.
About = preposition
Going = verb + ing (gerund)
c. After studying English, we went home.
After = preposition
Studying = verb + ing (gerund)

interested in (tertarik)
think about (memikirkan)
tired of (lelah)
look forward to (mengharap)
depend on (tergantung)
insist on (mendesak)
give up (menyerah)
worry about (khawatir)
fond of (suka)
object to (keberatan)
get used to (terbiasa)
get accustomed to (terbiasa)
