INTERNATIONAL MASTER PROGRAMME

Chemical and Energy Engineering

The Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering at the Otto von
Guericke University Magdeburg is among the best in its field
in Germany, with 13 full professors, several junior professors,
and about 40 research associates involved in the education and
training of our 1400 students.
Students of the Master Programme have the opportunity to
collaborate in research projects of the University, projects of
non-university research institutions and industry. Particularly foreign graduates are to be introduced to current problem
solutions of Chemical, Energy and Environmental Engineering.
The programme is based on the application of physically founded models and process simulations, and its verification for
the purpose of control and automation of material conversion
processes and recycling processes. The profile of the programme is characterized by the combination of modern methods of
material and energy generation and engineering methods of
characterization of complex distributed properties of the final
product on micro scale as well as technical macro scale.
Graduates have the following possibilities:
professional activity in industry, economy, or administration
continuing the academic career and joining a PhD Programme
Professional fields:
chemistry, pharmacy, food and feed and beverage industry,
power engineering, environmental engineering, plant
design, ceramics, metallurgy, bioengineering, building
materials, and research and development

MAGDEBURG, OTTO VON GUERICKE UNIVERSITY

AND FACULTY
More than 1,200 years old, Magdeburg is the capital city of the
federal state of Sachsen-Anhalt, found in the western part of
eastern Germany and the center of Europe. Located at the banks
of the river Elbe, it is one of the greenest cities in Germany with
about 230,000 residents and 20,000 students in town..
Probably its most famous inhabitant was Otto von Guericke
(1602-1686). He is well-known for the half-sphere experiment
and the discovery of vacuum, but also served the town as Lord
Mayor during the Thirty Years War. The University is named after him and aspires to teach and research in the tradition of this
great scientist, philosopher and engineer, and to continue with
his humanist work. It has about 14,000 students in 9 faculties,
the youngest of which is the Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering. More than 10 % of all students come from foreign
countries. Student living and housing in Magdeburg is inexpensive and comfortable.
The Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering was founded
in 1998 and is closely connected to the Max Planck Institute for
Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems. Research and teaching
facilities are excellent. Some of its research areas are:

Bioprocess engineering
Chemical and process engineering
Computer aided modelling and simulation
Energy process engineering
Fluid dynamics
Sustainable energy systems
Safety and hazard prevention in chemical industry
Technical Thermodynamics
