April 2016

Dear Parents of Year 11 students,

As you are aware, the written external examinations start on Tuesday 3rd May, although
practicals and orals are already under way. The examination period continues until June and
lessons will continue as normal until Wednesday April 27th. All students should attend school
until this date.
All external examinations start at different times and students MUST ARRIVE IN SCHOOL 15
MINUTES BEFORE EACH EXAM. Students should check the exact times of the examinations
on the notice board outside room 202/3 or on. A copy of this timetable will also be sent to you
via email. A study room will be provided for those students arriving at school earlier than this.
FOLLOWING ADVICE FROM THE EXAMINATION BOARDS, WATCHES OF ANY TYPE
WILL NOT BE ALLOWED INTO AN EXAMINATION ROOM. CLOCKS ARE PRESENT IN
EVERY ROOM, AND A LARGE CLOCK WILL BE PROJECTED ONTO THE SCREEN IN THE
HALL.
As is common practice with other schools in Kuwait, it is the parents responsibility to get
students to school for, and to pick them up from, each exam session. THE SCHOOL WILL
NOT PHONE HOME FOR STUDENTS WHO DO NOT APPEAR ON TIME.
IMPORTANT: FOR EXAMINATIONS HELD IN THE MORNING DURING THE SCHOOL WEEK, STUDENTS
MUST WEAR SCHOOL UNIFORM . For any exams held in the afternoons or on Fridays school
uniform is NOT required but MODEST clothing is necessary (no short skirts, shorts, etc, etc.).
All examination boards and schools have a STRICT code of behaviour and a copy of this code of
practice is attached for your information. (The students will also be issued with a copy of this.)
Should a student be ill and unable to attend an examination, a medical certificate in ENGLISH
must be provided AT THE TIME OF EXAM in order for the exam board to be contacted
immediately.
Attached are 3 forms which must be completed and returned to Mr. Lynskey before Thursday
28th April 2016.
I would like to remind you that students hoping to enter year 12 in September must pass
at least 6 IGCSE/GCSE subjects (not including GCSE Arabic) with grades A* - B. These
must include English and Maths, and subjects to be taken at A/S level should be grades
A* to B. However, you need to be aware that there are only limited spaces available in
Year 12.
Finally, on behalf of all the Senior High School staff, I would like to wish your son/daughter
every success in the forthcoming examinations.
Yours sincerely,

JANET CAREW

SENIOR DEPARTMENT
EXAMINATION CODE OF BEHAVIOUR
Every member of staff wishes you the best of luck in these examinations and we all hope that
you will do justice to yourself, your parents and the School. We hope that the questions you
want do appear on the paper and that as advised you have planned your revision to give
yourselves the best chance of gaining top grades.
THE FOLLOWING REGULATIONS CONCERNING YOUR EXAMINATIONS MUST BE READ,
UNDERSTOOD AND ACTED UPON.
a) Exam Times: You MUST turn up at least 15 minutes before the start of an exam. If you are
late you will NOT get extra time; indeed your paper may not be marked at all. Better to be
early than late! The Examination Timetable is outside Room 202/3, and has been emailed
home to you.
b) If you are ill Mrs Carew or Mr. Lynskey, who are in charge of all examinations, MUST be
informed. If you are unable to attend an exam a Medical Certificate in English MUST be
brought immediately to the school. If you are not well but do sit the exam, a Medical
Certificate should also be brought into the school as the Exam Board may then take your
illness into account when marking your paper.
c) If the exam is held in the morning during the school week, you must wear full school
uniform. In the afternoons and at weekends you need not, but you must not wear clothes
that could cause offence.
d) You are reminded that while you may be doing exams, the school continues to work and
you should respect the rights of the school. This includes your behaviour before and after
exams.
e) All school fees must be paid before any results can be issued and all exam fees must
be paid before exams can be sat.
f)

Immediately upon entering the examination room (normally the hall) to which you will be
called, examination conditions come into effect and you must be SILENT at all times.

g) If you require assistance of any kind you must raise your hand. Invigilators cannot:
1) Explain the questions.
2) Read anything to you
3) Lend you any equipment (eg - pen, rubber, calculator). (Your subject teachers
know what you need and will have told you before hand.)
h) You MUST take into the exam room everything you will need. You will not be able to borrow
anything from school or other candidates.
i)

On your examination papers you must use the name as it is spelt on your candidate card,
which will be on your desk.

j)

Should you even attempt to communicate with any other candidates you will be considered
as having attempted to cheat. This will involve your having to write a statement, the school
writing a report and, in all probability, your disqualification from that subject and possibly all
subjects.
k)

You should take your equipment into the exam room in a CLEAR PLASTIC BAG, not
a pencil case. Calculators should be removed from cases.

l)

You are not allowed to take a mobile phone, pager or watch into the examination room.
The school will not be responsible for such items being lost during examinations.

m) Tissues and blotting paper, if required, will be provided by the school.

n) All candidates will remain in the exam room until the exam has ended (you will not be
allowed to leave early).
o) If you cannot be picked up within 15 minutes of the end of an exam you will have to
remain in school until 2.30pm if it is a morning exam. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO
HANG AROUND OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL BEFORE OR AFTER AN EXAM. YOU ARE
EXPECTED TO GO HOME. IF YOU DO NOT THEN YOU WILL REMAIN IN SCHOOL.
p) For all multiple choice papers, you MUST use a pencil only.
q) For all other exam papers, you MUST use BLACK pen/biro only.
r) Correcting fluid/tippex/gel pens and highlighters are not allowed in any examination.
s) You should have checked the arrangements for any clashes on the board outside Room
202/203. If you have a clash and it has not been identified, you must see Mr. Lynskey
immediately.
