THE MYSTERY OF MYSTERIES

Periander A. Esplana
Introduction
A prayerful and careful study of the words "mystery" and "mysteries" in the King James
Bible is spiritual riches indeed which goes beyond all knowledge and wisdom of the
entire universe throughout all the ages.
Because of human depravity and Satanic deception, these mysteries have been perverted
and corrupted through various cults and occults. The Mystery or the Secret has been
blatantly contradicted and maliciously perverted by ancient mystery religions, paganism,
mysticism, Gnostics, and new agers today. In fact, the Mystery of mysteries as revealed
to Paul, the Apostle of the Gentiles (Rom.11.16; 1 Tim.2:7; 2 Tim.1:11), is one of the
forgotten truths in this so-called Information age.
But as we all know, only the Bible reveals the true truth which is centered on the Truth of
truths -- our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. There is only one God, past present and
future, He is the God of gods, Lord of lords and King of kings who wrote the Books of
books and reveal to us the Mystery of mysteries. He is the Infinite-Personal Triune God.
You must remember that all Scripture is FOR us (Doctrinal truth - 2 Tim.3:16; 1
Cor.10:11; Rom.15:4) but not all Scripture is TO us (Dispensational truth - 2 Tim.2:15;
Phil.1:10). The Biblical combination of Doctrinal truth and Dispensational truth produced
Practical truth (Eph.4-6).
"For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, If ye have heard of
the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: How that by
revelation he made known unto me the mystery..." (Eph.3:1-3)
"...the dispensation of God... even the mystery..." (Col.1:25-26)
A systematic study of biblical dispensation (Divine oikonomia threefold element:
1.household 2.management 3.steward) is a prerequisite, if not an absolute necessity,
toward a clear understanding of THE MYSTERY.
Early christian writers such as Justin Martyr (110-165), Irenaeus (130-200), Clement of
Alexandria (150-220), and Augustine (354-430) had seen the truth that God deals
differently with mankind in different dispensations, though dimly and not systematic. But
there are many early writers who had not seen totally this truth such as Tertullian (155222), Cyprian (d.258), Anonymous Letter of Barnabas (70-120), and Origen (185-254).
The truth of distinguishing dispensations was suppressed, neglected and lost at the time
of Emperor Constantine (306-337) when he made Christendom as the state religion.

But at the advent of Reformation Period, this truth of God's different dealings with
mankind in different dispensations can be seen in the writings of John Edwards (16391716), Pierre Poiret (1646-1719), Isaac Watts (1674-1748), Samuel Farmer Jarvis (before
1850), Samuel Hanson Coxe (1793-1880), John Nelson Darby (1800-1882), Benjamin
Wills Newton (1807-1889), J. R. Graves (1820-1893), James H. Brookes (1830-1897),
Robert Govett (1831-1901), James M. Gray (1851-1935), and C.I. Scofield (1843-1921).
At the turn of twentieth century, the following scholars have advocated and defended the
dispensational approach towards the Bible within a literal, contextual, grammatical, and
historical hermeneutics: Stuart Allen, Sir Robert Anderson, David Baron, A. E. Bishop,
E.W. Bullinger, John R. Caldwell, William Campbell, Lewis Sperry Chafer, George

academies, institutes, seminaries, colleges, and universities around the world.
May the Holy Spirit guides you into all truth as you meditate and study the following
occurrences of the word "mystery/mysteries" in the A.V.1611. "That their hearts might
be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of
understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of
Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." (Col.2:2-3)

thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and
revelation in the knowledge of Him:

that ye may know what is the hope of His calling, and
what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the
saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His
power to us-ward who believe
Ephesians 1:15-19

COMPLETE IN CHRIST
by William B. Hallman
Colossians 2:8-10 "Beware lest
any man spoil you through
philosophy and vain deceit, after
the tradition of men, after the
rudiments of the world, and not
after Christ. For in Him dwelleth all
the fulness of The Godhead bodily.
And ye are complete in Him, which
is the Head of all principality and
power."
THE GREATEST DISCOVERY that any human being can
make is the discovery of the ALL-SUFFICIENCY OF
CHRIST, and the utter worthlessness of man without Him.
Christ is all, and in Him we have all. Without Him we are
nothing, absolutely nothing. It makes no difference how
many times we multiply ciphers: they will be devoid of all
magnitude or quality until we place some digit before them.
But, once a digit is placed before them, they take on
meaning, value, significance.
"CHRIST IS ALL" is the covering principle of this Book of
Colossians. Look at the following verses: "That in all things
He might have the preeminence" (1:18); "In Him should all
fulness dwell" (1:19); "In Whom are hid all the treasures of
wisdom and knowledge" (2:3); "In Him dwelleth all the
fulness of the Godhead bodily" (2:9); "In Him, which is the
Head of all principality and power" (2:10); "Christ is all and
in all" (3:11).
I am sure we all can sing with Charles Wesley, "Thou, O
Christ, art all I want, more than all in Thee I find."
Browning wrote, "I say, the acknowledgement of God in
Christ, accepted by that reason, solves for thee all
questions in the earth and out of it, and has so far advanced

thee to be wise." And it was Bishop Moule who said, "No

surer test according to Scripture can be applied to anything
claiming to be Christian teaching. Where does it put Jesus
Christ? What does it make of Jesus Christ? Is He
something in it, or is He all?"
This Epistle of Colossians is a positive presentation of the
antidote to every form of heresy. Epaphras had come to
Paul at Rome with the news that a real danger of false
teaching had beset the church at Colosse. This new heresy
called Gnosticism was a combination of Judaic Ritualism
and Oriental Mysticism (see 2:16-18). These Colossians
were asked to accept something in addition to Christ. They
taught that Christ was not sufficient, not unique. They taught
an additional philosophy (v. 8), an additional astrology (v. 8
"elements of the world" having to do with stars and
planets), an additional circumcision (v. 11), additional
ascetic rules and regulations (vss. 16, 20-23), and
additional worship of angels (v. 18).
When anyone says that we are to be saved or kept by the
Law, they have never understood the phrase, "COMPLETE
IN HIM." "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness
to everyone that believeth" (Rom. 10:4). When anyone
suggests that we can add to our salvation by doing
something, they have never understood the phrase,
"COMPLETE IN CHRIST." "For by grace are ye saved
through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God"
(Eph. 2:8). When anyone suggests that water baptism in
any form is necessary for salvation, or as a testimony to
ones faith or the door to the church, they do not understand
the phrase, "COMPLETE IN HIM." "For we are Buried with
Him in baptism" (Col. 2:12). When we are told that we must
keep the Sabbath, we know men do not understand the
COMPLETENESS we have in Christ. "The Sabbath days
which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of
Christ" (Col. 2:16-17).
The word translated "fulness" in 2:9 is in the Greek the word
pleroma, and the word "complete" in 2:10 is the word
pepleromenoi. This latter is a perfect passive participle of
the word pleroo. The word means to "make full, to fill up, to

fill to the full, to diffuse throughout, complete, nothing

wanting." So the great word in this Epistle, both with
reference to Christ, is this word pleroma or pleroo. This
fulness is worked into the very structure and language of
the Epistle. (See 1:9; 1:19; 1:24; 1:25; 2:2; 2:9, 2:10; 4:12;
4:17.)
Not only in Colossians, but in the whole Bible we have
tributes to Jesus Christ. He is seen in every promise,
parable, prophecy, type, poem, narrative, allegory, and
symbol. He is likened to the sun, the stars, the shepherd,
the lamb, the lion, the door, the cornerstone, the foundation,
the bread, and the wine. Everything about Him is
superlative. He is the "Lord of Lords," "the King of Kings,"
"the fairest among ten thousand."
Nothing can go beyond completeness. You can add nothing
to it. You might as well try to purge a sunbeam, or purify the
whiteness of the newly fallen snow as to add to that which is
already perfect. And it is not only true that "all fulness dwells
in Him," but also that we are "COMPLETE IN HIM."
One day Michelangelo went into the studio of the young
painter Raphael, and, finding him gone, left without leaving
his name. But before he went, he took a piece of chalk and
wrote on the canvas of the poor and meager design of
Raphael a bold and sweeping line with the word "amplius"
(wider). When Raphael returned and saw this, he knew
immediately who had been there and done this. He thus
changed his style. So our Lord points to His fulness and our
narrowness and emptiness, and challenges us to partake of
His fulness His pleroma.
It is the privilege of every person to recognize their
completeness in Christ. This can be done first,
BY RECOGNIZING CHRISTS FULNESS
"For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily"
(2:9)

Alford paraphrases this verse, "For in Him all the complete

perfection essential to the Godhead abides corporeally,
substantially, and really, and not in the manner of shadows."
CHRISTS FULNESS is resident in His Person ("in Him"
en auto). This phrase is given the emphatic position in the
verse, and draws our attention first to the One Who has the
FULNESS. The Holy Spirit wants us to see Him, even
before we see HIS FULNESS. This is important.
We must also recognize the Permanence of this FULNESS
in the word "dwelleth" katoikei. This word means "to settle
down, to be at home." Deity is at home in Christ, and dwells
so in a permanent way.
There is also the Plentitude of this FULNESS as seen in the
words, "all the fulness of the Godhead" pan to pleroma tes
Theotetos. To make this matter exceedingly clear, the
Apostle use the word "pan" (all), emphasizing that the
FULNESS is complete. There is no portion of the plentitude
that is not present. Paul is pointing out further by the use of
the word Theotetos (Godhead) that not mere quality of God
resides in Christ, as seen in Romans 1:20 by the use of the
word Theiotes, but the absolute essence of God dwells in
Christ. CHRIST IS NOT MERELY LIKE GOD, THAT IS
DIVINE, BUT HE IS THEOS GOD. This was Pauls
declaration against the Gnostics before Athanasius had to
oppose Arius (who said that the Son is not of the same
substance as the Father, but was created as an agent for
creating the world).
IN THIS FULNESS OF CHRIST we also recognize the
place in the word "bodily" somatikos. This is an adverb
modifying the verb "dwell," pointing to the manner. It means
"bodily," or "in bodily manifestation." This does not mean a
mystical dwelling, nor a mere spiritual dwelling, nor a limited
bodily dwelling. It does mean an eternal bodily dwelling.
There can be only one tenable explanation, and that is that
Christ was and is God. All the fulness dwelt in Him before
the incarnation, during the incarnation, and continues so
permanently. Since "in Christ" the plentitude dwells
permanently, and bodily, there is the manifestation that

gives the lie to all forms of Gnosticism, which perverts the

truth about the person of Christ.
If the foregoing exposition is true, and it is, then certain
things follow in logical sequence.
CHRIST IS HEAD OF ALL CREATION. "For by Him were
all things created, all things were created by Him, and for
Him" (Col. 1:16-17). In creation, Christ is preeminent. Every
form and kind of matter, simple and complex, were created
by Him. The atom and the star, the sun and the cloud, every
grade of life from the worm to the angel, every order of
intellect and being around and above us, the splendors of
Heaven and the nearer phenomena of the earth are the
product of the first-born of all creation. Three prepositions
are used in relation to Christ as Creator en, dia, and eis, "in Him," "through Him," and "for Him." Christ is the source,
the means and the end of all creation. He is also the
conserver of all "by Him all things consist" (Col. 1:17). He
impresses upon creation its unity and solidarity, making it a
cosmos instead of a chaos. He feeds the sun with fuel and
the sparrow with corn. He guides the planets in their
courses, and keeps the heart beating in man. He cares for
the tiniest insect that makes the coral and the mightiest
leviathan which plows the deep. He guides the seraph and
the cherub in their inter-spacial missions. The helm of the
universe is in His hands that were nailed to Calvary for you
and me. Everywhere we behold His footprints; out of every
storm and solitude we hear His voice across the darkness
saying, "It is I, be not afraid."
CHRIST IS ALSO THE HEAD OF ALL REDEMPTION. "And
having made peace through the blood of His cross, by Him
to reconcile all things unto Himself" (Col. 1:20). He is both
the "Author and Finisher" of our faith, the "Alpha and
Omega, the Beginning and End" of our redemption. When
He cried, "It is finished," it was finished. Nothing was left
undone, and nothing need be added. In the incarnation He
became both God and man; in the crucifixion He became
our means of peace and provision for every spiritual
blessing; in the resurrection He became our power over
death, the grave, and Lake of Fire; in His ascension and

seating at Gods right hand, He became our guarantee of all

future glory with Him. Nothing has been left undone for our
future glorification with Him "in the Heavenlies."
CHRIST IS THE HEAD OF THE CHURCH, HIS BODY.
"And He is the Head of the body, the church" (Col. 1:18).
The head is the glory of the body. There the chief beauty of
manhood dwells. Christ is fairer than all. We are
circumcised with Him, baptized with Him, risen with Him,
ascended with Him, and seated with Him in glory. What a
complete identification! It is the head which unifies the body,
coordinates all its movements, regulates all its actions.
From the head comes the mandate which lifts the hand and
moves the foot.
CHRIST IS AGAIN THE HEAD OF OUR HOPE.
"When Christ Who is our life shall appear, then shall
ye also appear with Him in glory" (Col. 3:4). Christ
takes care of all our sorrows, sufferings, trials and
tribulations. Matthew Arnold shows the failure of the
Greeks religion to take into account the sorrows of
life. It was only a fair- weather religion.
Twenty miners were once buried in a coal pit in Wales,
standing in water to the waist, until but five remained. Yet
they were singing, "In the deep and mighty waters there is
none to hold my head, but my only Saviour Jesus, Who was
offered in my stead." The South Sea Islanders have a palm
tree that they use for bread, drink, clothing, shelter, light,
material for books, cordage for boats, and for needles. So
our Lord Jesus Christ is all and in all. We are Gods
heavenly people; our citizenship is in Heaven, and from
thence we look for our Saviour. "Looking for that blessed
hope and the glorious appearing of the great God and our
Saviour Jesus Christ" (Titus 2:13).
THE "FULNESS" OF CHRIST is but half of the story. The
apostle hastens on to show the other side. So we must also,

RECOGNIZE THE CHRISTIANS FULNESS.

"Ye are complete in Him" (2:10). Note our present
possession in the words "ye are." This word in the Greek
holds the emphatic position. "Beloved, now are we the sons
of God" (I John 3:2). Note also our present position "in Him."
Again the Greek gives this an emphatic location. "In Him" is
the richest little phrase in all of Pauls Epistles. This is the
sphere of the believers life. It is a sphere, not a mere circle.
We are "in Him," surrounded above, beneath, beside, and
all around. So nothing can come from without to harm us,
and with Him within we should be "more than conquerors."
"In Him" we have all that He has, and He is our fulness, our
complement, our completeness. So also our past perfection
as believers. The word is pepleromenoi, and means
"COMPLETE, FILLED FULL, PERFECTED." This is a
perfect, passive participle, so it represents a past perfect
work. Demosthenes used the word here translated
"complete" in describing a ship fully manned. Truly our ship
is fully manned, from prow to stern, by her Captain Who
steers the vessel, stills the storm, guides through rocks and
reefs, feeds the crew, fills every need, and brings the vessel
to its desired haven.
If we are "COMPLETE IN HIM," and we are "by grace
through faith," then it follows what Paul sets forth in this
Epistle.
WE ARE COMPLETE WITHOUT PHILOSOPHY, "Beware
lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit,
after the tradition of men, after the rudiments (elements) of
the world, and not after Christ" (2:8). We need no sophisms
of this world to prop our faith. There is nothing new in
philosophy except old error. One day three friend
philosophers came to Job to comfort him and to set him
straight as to his thinking. These three represent the
reasonings of the best of men. Eliphaz reasons on human
experience (4:8; 5:3; 15:17): "Even as I have seen," "I have
seen," "I have seen." It is what he had seen, heard, and felt.
Bildad comes with human tradition (8:8,10): "For enquire, I
pray thee, of the former age," "search of the fathers."
Zophar reasons on human merit (11:13-14): "If thou prepare

thine heart." This is the gospel of humanism. Six thousand

years of human gropings after wisdom have not given men
the true knowledge of God, nor His ways with men. Mans
reason is inadequate to understand either the will or way of
God. If man by his own reason could find God, and His way
of redemption, then there would be no need of a revelation.
Like little David we are content with the sling and the
stones. As for the armor of philosophy, we leave that to
proud Goliath to wear. "Spoil you," says Paul. The word is
sulagogon, and means "to carry off as a captive, a slave, as
booty." It is used of kidnapping and plundering a house,
also seducing a maiden.
WE ARE ALSO "COMPLETE IN HIM" WITHOUT
CEREMONIES. "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances
that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it
out of the way, nailing it to His cross; Let no man therefore
judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or
of the new moon, or of the sabbath days" (2:14, 16-17).
All these ceremonies had their day. They belong to the time
of shadows; we now have the Substance, Christ. "Finished
are the types and shadows of the ceremonial law."
Circumcision, sacrifices, Passover, water baptisms, temple
services, priestly functions, etc., are but "beggerly elements"
of a past age, encumbrances no longer needed. Who looks
for the moon as long as the sun is shining? We are in the
day of the Substance, not in the night of the shadows. But
man is so prone to be religious, and to add something to
Christ. He must "touch," and "taste," and "handle"
something.
Again, WE ARE "COMPLETE IN HIM" WITHOUT ANY
HUMAN MERIT. "For by grace are ye saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: Not of works,
lest any man should boast" (Eph. 2:8-9). All our
righteousnesses are but filthy rags. If we were "dead in
sins," and we were, how could a dead man do anything? He
cannot see, hear, touch, smell, speak, or walk. So how
utterly foolish it is like Zophar to talk about preparing ones
heart to appease God or to merit His favor.

Therefore, if "IN HIM" there dwells all "the fulness of the

Godhead bodily," and we are "COMPLETE IN HIM," let us
live as those who know this fulness! The Pauline doctrine of
Christ is His absolute "fulness," His pleroma. And the
doctrine of "ye are complete in Him." Christ should therefore
command all our worship, our admiration, our love. There is
at our disposal the infinite merit of His righteousness; the
infinite efficacy in His blood; and the infinite power of His
resurrection and glorification.
The celebrated artist Danneker was asked by Napoleon to
paint Venus for the Louvre, and declined. An enormous sum
was offered him, but still he declined. The little emperor
angrily demanded the reason. "I have just painted Christ,"
was the answer, "and I can never lower my brush to paint
such an inferior subject as Venus."
Let us therefore sing:
Now blest in heavenly places
In Christ at Gods right hand;
And filled with all His fulness
Complete in Him to stand.
Sing to the praise and glory
Of Him Who thus hath shown
Such gracious love and mercy,
To call us for His own.

What is The Mystery?

Source: http://www.spiritualblessings.org/articles/dispensational/mystery.htm
A mystery in Scripture is a "secret". It is not really something strange or mysterious;
rather, it is a fact or dealing of God which remains a secret until it is revealed.
Before looking at the Scriptures, let me give you an example. This article has been
written by David Tavender. Some of our readers know me personally, and some do not
know me at all, but I would suggest that very few know my middle name. There's nothing
mysterious about it, but unless I reveal it, you probably won't know what it is.
Actually, my middle name is John, and now, this "not-so-mysterious" mystery has been
revealed to you! The mysteries mentioned in the Bible are a bit like this also. They are
secrets which are hidden until they are revealed, but unlike the way we use the word in
our English today, a mystery in the Bible may not be strange or mysterious at all.
One mystery often referred to in Spiritual Blessings is that described in Ephesians 3. This
mystery was revealed to Paul around 60 AD after the events covered by Acts 28, the last
chapter of the book of Acts. The mystery revealed was that Jews and Gentiles were no
longer to be viewed as different in God's sight.
From the events of Genesis 12 (approximately 2000 B.C.) until the events of Acts 28
(approximately 60 A.D.) the Israelite people were God's chosen nation above all others. It
was through them that He was working out His purposes. During that time all other
nations mentioned in the Bible (such as the Assyrians, the Egyptians, etc) were only
mentioned as they came in contact with Israel.
After God set the nation of Israel aside as His special people around 62 A.D., there was
no longer any difference between Jewish and non-Jewish believers in God's plans. And
this was the big secret, i.e. the mystery.
"...the MYSTERY made known to me (Paul) by revelation ... was not made known to men
in other generations as it has now been revealed ... This MYSTERY is that through the
gospel the Gentiles are heirs together ... members together of one body". (Ephesians 3:36)
The idea that nationality is not important for a believer's status is fairly common today,
and we would say "Amen" to that. What we would say, though, is that this change in
God's plans took place much later than is often thought.
So, when did this change take place?

not at Matthew 1 (the beginning of the New Testament);

not at Matthew 27 (the crucifixion);
not at Acts 2 (the day of Pentecost);

not at Acts 9 (the conversion of Paul);

not at Acts 11 (the blessing of Cornelius, a Gentile);
not at Acts 13 (Paul's first appeal to Gentiles).

No, all of the differences between Jewish and Gentile believers were removed after Acts
28, when the nation of Israel was set aside as the dominant nation in God's plans. No
longer did Israelites have the prior place in God's plans for mankind; rather, believers,
whether Gentiles or Jews, now shared equal status. The revelation of this mystery
brought with it conditions which differ from those written about previously - conditions
in operation for today's body of believers. These may be found in Ephesians, Philippians,
Colossians, 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus and Philemon.
Before and After Acts 28
Perhaps the most obvious way to illustrate the mystery and all that goes with it, is to
highlight some of the conditions before Acts 28, and compare them with conditions after
Acts 28. In other words, we will now look at what was happening before the Mystery of
Ephesians was revealed (approx 62 A.D.), as opposed to what was revealed after that
event. Here are just a few differences "before and after" to get us started ...
(1) God's administration was not one of pure grace before the Mystery was revealed.
Some of His acts were gracious, others were acts of justice, and some acts were designed
to punish. People died for sinful actions on some occasions (Acts 5:1- 1; 1 Corinthians
11:30). But since Acts 28, God's administration is one of pure grace. All of His acts are
gracious. All direct judgement against human sin is on hold for the time being (Ephesians
3:2).
(2) Before Acts 28, belief in Christ was confirmed by visible, miraculous signs that
accompanied this belief. This was true of every Christian at the time (Mark 16:16-18;
Hebrews 2:3,4; Romans 15:18,19). Miracles were called "signs" because they were
designed to indicate something, usually to Israel (Acts 2:22). However, believers today
are no longer accompanied by remarkable, evidential miracles. This is because the nation
of Israel was set aside at Acts 28. Consequently, there are no references to any miracles
occurring after Acts 28. You don't see the so-called "faith healers" of today raising people
back from the dead, as Paul did in Acts 20.

The Different Conditions Before and After Acts 28

Source: http://www.spiritualblessings.org/articles/dispensational/acts28.htm
In this section we will summarize the different conditions in operation before and after
Acts 28. Those BEFORE Acts 28 are recorded in the book of Acts and the epistles
written during that time, whilst those AFTER Acts 28 are to be found in the last seven
letters of Paul: Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon.
Here, then, are some of the differences - "before" and "after" - with Scripture references
for further study.

The Mystery
Before Acts 28: The mystery (or secret) of Ephesians was not yet revealed (Eph 3:3,5).
After Acts 28: The mystery that believers from all nations are now fellow heirs, is
revealed (Eph 3:5,6). Previously it had been hidden (Col 1:26). The church of the
mystery is a new creation (Eph 2:15); therefore, the term "mystery" is never used of the
church during the Acts period.

The Body
Before Acts 28: The term "body" was simply an illustration of the groups of Christians
within each locality. The relationship of Christ as head of the body did not yet exist, as
shown by 1 Cor 12. Here, various members of the body were compared with the eyes,
ears, nose, etc - i.e. parts of the head (Rom 12:4,5, 1 Cor 12:12-20). Note that the Greek
of 1 Cor 12:27 says "you are a body (not "the" body) of Christ".
After Acts 28: The Head is Christ and the body is the group of believers (Eph 1:22,23;
4:15,16; 5:23; Col 1:18; 2:19). The term "The Body of Christ" is now the title of the
church today, and not just an illustration as was the case previously.

Israel's Hope
Before Acts 28: Israel's hope of the kingdom was active right up until Acts 28 (Acts
28:20).
After Acts 28: There is no mention of Israel's hope, because plans for Israel as a nation
have been temporarily laid aside.

National Differences (1)

Before Acts 28: The gospel of salvation was to the Jew first. In each city that was
preached to, Jews were given the first opportunity to believe (Acts 3:25,26;
13:5,14,45,46; 14:1; 17:1,2,10; 28:17).

After Acts 28: This gospel is no longer to the Jew first. All national priorities are
abolished. Gentile believers become equal with Jewish believers in every way. A literal
translation of Eph 3:6 is that Gentiles are joint-heirs, in a joint-body, and joint-partakers
of the promise in Christ by the gospel.

National Differences (2)

Before Acts 28: There was an advantage in being a Jew, and circumcision was profitable
(Rom 3:1,2; Acts 16:3).
After Acts 28: There is no advantage in being a Jew, and there is no profit in
circumcision (Phil 3:5-8).

National Differences (3)

Before Acts 28: There were two distinct orders of believers. These were called "Jews
that believe" and "Gentiles that believe" (Rom 1:16; 2:9,10). There were different rules of
life and requirements for these two groups of believers (Acts 15:19,20).
After Acts 28: No such distinction exists among God's saints today. God's rule for one
believer is God's rule for all. "Gentiles (ie, nations) are fellowheirs" (Eph 2:14,15; 3:6;
Col 2:14).

National Differences (4)

Before Acts 28: The blessings that came to the Gentiles were related to God's desires and
purposes for Israel. They were given to the Gentiles in order to provoke Israel to
jealousy. (Rom 11:11)
After Acts 28: The blessings that belong to the Gentiles now have no relationship to
Israel. Believers of all nations are blessed independently of Israel.

Foundation of the World

Before Acts 28: The hope of believers is linked with ages "SINCE (or from) the
foundation of the world" (Matt 25:34).
After Acts 28: The hope of present believers is linked with ages "BEFORE the
foundation of the world" (Eph 1:4).

Grace
Before Acts 28: God's administration was not one of pure grace. Some of His acts were
gracious, others were acts of justice, and some acts were designed to punish. People died
for sinful actions (Acts 5:1-11; 1 Cor 11:30).

After Acts 28: God's administration is one of pure grace. All of his acts are gracious. All
direct judgement against human sin is in abeyance (Eph 3:2). Every blessing that comes
to us is the result of God acting in grace - not as a result of our earning.

Covenants
Before Acts 28: Every covenant that God had made with Abraham's seed was in
operation. Some of the blessings that came to them were the result of God keeping a
covenant (Acts 3:25,26; Rom 9:4).
After Acts 28: No covenant is in operation, because the people to whom they were made
(i.e. Israel) have no standing before God (Gal 3:16; Eph 2:12).

The Lord's Coming

Before Acts 28: During Acts the Lord's coming was to be soon (Acts 3:19,20; Heb
10:37; James 5:8; Rev 22:7,12,20). This is why Paul advised widows and the unmarried
not to marry (1 Cor 7:8,9; compare Matt 24:19).
After Acts 28: The Lord's coming to rule in Israel has been postponed and does not
relate to the hope of our dispensation. Hence we do not find phrases such as "the
Kingdom of heaven is near". Note that Paul now advises younger widows to marry (1
Tim 5:14).

Paul's Preaching
Before Acts 28: Men (mostly Jews) had constantly opposed the preaching of the gospel
to the Gentiles (Acts 13:48-50; 17:4,5,13; 21:27-29).
After Acts 28: Paul preached with "...no man forbidding him" (Acts 28:31).

Ordinances
Before Acts 28: Ceremonies such as water baptism, the Sabbath and the Lord's Supper
(Passover) were observed by Jewish believers.
After Acts 28: Observance of these ordinances, which were for Israel, are now not
necessary (Col 2:13-17).

Baptism (1)
Before Acts 28: Water baptism was an essential requirement along with faith for
salvation (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38).

After Acts 28: Water baptism is not essential to our forgiveness or redemption (Eph 1:7;
2:8,9).

Baptism (2)
Before Acts 28: At least two forms of baptism were in operation - water & spirit (Acts
2:1-4; 8:14-17; 10:44-48).
After Acts 28: Only one baptism is now in operation - that of being identified with Christ
in His death. (Col 2:12; Eph 4:5; Rom 6:3,4).

Miracles
Before Acts 28: Belief in Christ as Saviour was confirmed by visible, miraculous signs
that accompanied this belief. This was true of every Christian at the time (Mark 16:16-18;
Heb 2:4; Rom 15:18,19). Miracles were a sign to Israel (Acts 2:22).
After Acts 28: Believers are no longer accompanied by miracles. This is because the
nation of Israel has been temporarily set aside. There are no references to miracles
occurring after Acts 28.

Healing
Before Acts 28: Paul could heal by his word, his touch, and even a handkerchief (Acts
19:12; 28:8,9).
After Acts 28: Paul was now no longer able to heal (1 Tim 5:23; 2 Tim 4:20).

Content of Writings
Before Acts 28: In his messages, Paul only declared that which was also covered by the
writings of Moses and the prophets in some way. "It is written" occurs forty-odd times in
Paul's early epistles (Acts 26:22).
After Acts 28: Paul declared truths revealed to him, which Moses and the prophets knew
nothing about. This is because, in previous ages, they were "not made known" (Eph
3:5,9). The term "it is written" occurs not once.

OT References
Before Acts 28: Quotations from the Old Testament and references to Old Testament
people, places and events abound. Because Israel as a nation still feature in God's plans,
there are many references to the OT which features Israel.

After Acts 28: In the later epistles, there are very few quotations from the OT, and of this
number, not one can be said to teach the mystery revealed to Paul. (Eph 4:8; 5:14,31; 6:2;
1 Tim 5:18).

Word Occurrences
Before Acts 28: Words and phrases associated with "Israel" and its part in God's plans
are very common. Such phrases include: Jew, Israel, Israelite, Abraham, Moses, the
Lord's Supper, miracles, tongues, interpret(ation), heal(ing), prophecy, prophesying,
circumcision(ise), and others.
After Acts 28: These terms are virtually non-existent. The few times they do occur, they
emphasize the fact that there is no difference between the Jewish and Gentile believers.
(Col 3:11; Eph 2:11,12; Phil 3:3-9; Titus 1:14; 2 Tim 3:8).
------------We have attempted to show the differences in the way that God has dealt with His people
before and since the Acts 28 dividing line, and how the relevant Scriptures reflect this. It
is our hope that we may all come to a better understanding of the unique and blessed
place of the church under this current dispensation of God's immeasurable grace.

If the Bible Formula tells us that the centre and circumference of

the Bible is our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, the Word of the
Holy Trinity, the Mystery Formula tells us that the center of Gods
Program is the Absolute Equality of Gentiles and Jews. Note that
in Bible Numerics the number of the Gentiles is 10 while the
number of the Jews is 12. A difference of 2. But you must also
note that the number of the letters of the word Jews is 4 while the
word Gentiles is 8. A difference of 22. You cannot equate the two
by minus sign (-), by separating them, pointing their differences,
we need the plus sign (+) the cross to equate (=) them, by pointing
their sum, Spiritually uniting them in Christ which God had done
because of His infinite wisdom, supreme goodness and sacrificial
love to all of us which will surely lead to universal reconciliation.

www.heavendwellers.com
Welcome to the Heaven Dweller's Home Page, a source of information for whom Christ in His capacity as
Head over all things both in heaven and in earth, is building a Holy Temple to be seated in Heavenly
Places, far above all heavens, principalities, powers, mights and dominions, to the praise and the glory of
His grace. Amen and Amen
Here you will find a place to search for the absolute truth of God's word, His bible, through Right Division.
As a commandment given to us by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to Try Things That Differ, (Phil.
1:10) we turn to The Apostle Paul as the minister and teacher of the Gentiles for our Doctrine and Walk
for today (Rom. 11:13, Rom. 15:16, 1 Tim. 2:7.) We further seek to shed light on the glorious Gospel Of
Christ and enlighten the eyes of all those who have not yet seen The Mystery of His Kingdom and Hope
Of His Calling in Glory , Far Above All Heavens, The Fullness of Him who filleth all in all. Please join
us, but leave behind any baggage, church doctrine, traditions, theories, seculars proofs, philosophy,
revelation, and other so-called 'inspired writing'.
Just bring an open mind, and a bible along and we can join together and
"OPEN THE BOOK"
The way of discovery still lies open before us, and it is the object of this work to enter on that way, and
study the Bible from within and not merely from without. Our purpose is to follow the one great
requirement of the Word of God, which is grounded on the fact that it is "the Word of Truth," and that His
Word must be "rightly divided" in order for us to find its truth and to attain The Prize.
"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the
word of truth." 2 Tim 2:15
As has been said, "It shall greatly help to understand scripture if thou mark, not only what is spoken or
written, but of whom, to whom, with what words, at what time, where, to what intent, and with what
circumstances, considering what goes before and what follows."
This key of rightly dividing will keep us from falling into the common belief that every part of the bible is
to be interpreted directly as referring to the Church which is His body; or as pertaining to every person at
every stage in history. While the Word of God is written FOR all persons, and FOR all time, yet, it is true
that not every part of it is addressed TO all persons or ABOUT all persons IN all time. If a passage speaks
of the "kingdom of heaven," or "Israel," or "Jerusalem," we must not interpret it as the "church which is His
body."
It is the intent and purpose of this site to focus and place emphasis on the distinct and separate callings,
spheres, and dispensations that run throughout the Word of God, namely;
1. The Earth - Two dimensional inheritance with "Terrestrial" bodies in resurrection.
2. The New Jerusalem - Three dimensional inheritance with "Celestial" bodies in resurrection. In the case
of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and those who follow in their steps, the heavenly Jerusalem is seen to be in
the nature of a reward, consequent upon their overcoming faith, associated with the better hope and the
better resurrection, but it must be remembered that what may be the prize of one calling, may be the
unconditional hope of another, and in order to appreciate this, see HOPE and The Prize.
3. Far Above All Heavens - The fourth dimension with bodies fashioned like unto His glorious body. SEE
CHART
It is within each of these callings and spheres that a dispensation, or a particular economy of administration
of God's dealings with any particular people, having its own peculiar and distinctive characteristics takes

center stage. For example, there was a dispensation of Law under Moses; a dispensation of miraculous gifts
during Pentecost. (See also A Study in Pentecost) Today we are in a dispensation of grace, and of The
Mystery (Eph. 3). The right division of truth with regard to the various dispensations is called
"Dispensational Truth."
Many objectors to the teaching of dispensational truth fail to recognize and distinguish between that which
is fundamental to all callings and that which is particular to each calling. "All have sinned and come short
of the Glory of God" is true of all, under whatever dispensation they may be ranged. The Saviour's one
sacrifice for sin is the peculiar provision and peculiar necessity of no one calling or dispensation. Faith in
the authority and trustworthiness of all Scripture is basic and independent of all distinctions, and the Person
of Christ, His work and His grace is central and fundamental to every phase and subdivision of the purpose
of the ages, whether focused upon the Jew, Gentile or Church of God, Earth, Heavenly city or Far above
all.
Within these pages will be found an argument for the present dispensation beginning after Acts 28, when
Israel was set aside and became Lo Ammi, or "Not my people." Today, this truth is still not accepted and
has regretfully caused an untold number of believers to miss the dispensation of the Mystery and all its
glorious blessings and the BLESSED HOPE . The majority of Christendom still teaches that the CHURCH
began at Pentecost. While a church did begin at Pentecost, it is also true that this church differed in many
respects from every preceding church, or assembly, but "THE CHURCH WHICH IS HIS BODY" is
entirely different from this and all else. Peter's sermon in Acts 2 is largely an exposition of the prophet Joel,
and there is certainly nothing about THE BODY OF CHRIST in Joel. The book of Acts is a continuation of
the witness concerning THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN . It is when we study the epistles of Paul written
AFTER Acts 28, or what are called THE PRISON EPISTLES, that we see for the first time a HOPE and a
CALLING that is in sphere and locality FAR ABOVE ALL HEAVENS . (See- Paul's 14 Epistles Chart
and Acts and God's Change in Callings
We invite you to search and see for yourself the wonderful truths of the word of God when Rightly divided
and pray with Paul that.
"The eyes of your understanding may be enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of HIS
calling, and what the riches of the glory of HIS inheritance in the saints,"
"And what is the exceeding greatness of HIS power to usward who believe, according to the working
of HIS mighty power,"
"Which HE wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set HIM at HIS own right
hand in THE HEAVENLY PLACES."
"Far above all principality and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not
only in this world, but also in that which is to come;"
"And hath put all things under HIS feet, and gave HIM to be THE HEAD over all things to the
church,"
Which is HIS body, THE FULLNESS that filleth all in all. (EPH 1:18-23)
