5 behaviors/ actions considered deviant

Gay Marriage
Abortion
Drug Use
Flag Burning
Expressing disrespect towards religious figures (i.e. illustrating Muhammed, spitting
on a statue of Jesus, offering beef to a hindu, etc.)

Create a questionnaire regarding these five behaviors/actions with the purpose of


determining how perception on these topics have changed over time (minimum of 3
questions per topic. Total of 15 topics) Ask about deviance (if one considers the
behavior deviant [explain deviance too])
Your questions need to be responded by 2 people from each of the following
generations
Peers/ teenagers
Parents (mid 30s to mid 50s)
Grandparents ( 60s, 70s, 80s)

Ex Questions:
Do you consider X a deviant behavior?
What has caused you to feel about this behavior?
Has your feelings regarding this topic evolved?

In sociology deviance is a behavior that violates significant social norms.


Homosexuality:
1) Do you consider Homosexuality a deviant behavior in regards to society as a
whole? (i.e. homosexuality violates norms society generally values)
2) Do you consider homosexuality deviant to norms that you personally value
(so if your personal values may contradict what you think societys values are
this may be different.)
3) Has your feeling about this topic changed over time? If so, why?
4) Do you feel it is okay for one to discriminate against homosexuals if their
religion is against homosexuality?
Abortion:
1) Do you consider abortion a deviant behavior (to either your own values or
societys)
2) Has your feeling about this topic changed over time? If so, why?
3) Keeping in mind that many people will say abortion should be permissible up
to a certain point (for example some laws make abortion illegal after 12
weeks, others 24), when do you think abortion no longer becomes
acceptable.
Drug Use:
1) Do you believe drug use as a whole is a deviant behavior?
2) What if one separates Hard Drugs (i.e. heroin, cocaine, tobacco, alcohol,
Xanax, etc.) and Soft Drugs(i.e. Marijuana, LSD, Peyote)? Is the use of one
type more deviant than the other? Why?
3) Has your feeling about this topic changed over time? If so, why?
Flag Burning:
1) Do you believe flag burning is a deviant behavior?
2) How would you react to someone who is burning an American Flag? What if
the flag werent American?
3) Why do you think you feel the way you do about flag burning?

Religious discrimination and disrespect.


1) Do you feel that all religions and religious acts should be legal?

2) How do you feel about laws that prohibit acts integral to certain faiths despite
first amendment protection (An example of this would be laws that ban
Polygamy despite it being a large part of the Mormon faith). Why do you think
these laws exist?
3) Has your views on this topic changed? Why have they?
