Curriculum Highlights
Math: Time and measurement
Social Studies: I was, I am, I will be
Word study: plural suffixes
Singular means only one of something. Plural means more than one.
There are two plural suffixes - <-s> and <-es>
If you create an extra syllable when you create the plural add <-es>.
If the number of syllables stay the same just add <-s>.
EG.
tiger
tigers
lion
lions
1 syllable

witch
1 syllable

1 syllable

witches

fox

foxes

2 syllables

If a word ends with <o> you will probably have to add <es>
EG.
mango
mangoes

News From Ms. Tindalls Class

The next few weeks in math we will be reviewing some of the trickier
concepts covered over the year - time and measurement. You can support
the measurement aspect at home by talking with your child about the
different properties of objects that can be measured such as length, width,
height, weight, volume, surface area, temperature, time, capacity etc. Also
point out different units of measurement as you come across them. For
example, centimetre, inch, metre, foot, litre, kilogram, second, minute,
degrees, square metre etc. Pay particular attention to measurements you
see in the real world such a 1 litre on the juice container, 60 kilometres per
hour on the speedometer, 39 for the size of a shoe, or 2 cups for a
recipe. See how many different things and ways you can measure at home.

Monday

Reading/ Word Study: Find plurals and singular forms in your books
Math: Time practice: Explain to someone everything you know about the clock and telling
time. Remember to use words such as hour, minute, analogue, digital, clockwise, anticlockwise, oclock, half past etc)
Social studies: Learning about the past from stories/ photos/ books/ videos. How was life
different for your parents than for you as a child? Talk about the toys your parents used to
play with. Find the oldest person you know (perhaps a grandparent or elderly neighbor). Ask
them the same questions you ask your parents. How are their answers alike/ different? How do
you feel about their lives compared to yours?
Tuesday

Reading/ Word Study: Find plurals and singular forms in your books
Math: Practice telling time, and calculating time between activities. EG. I arrived home from
school at 4 oclock. Dinner is at 6:30pm. How much time until dinner?
Social studies: Repeat as Monday but this time focus on school.
Wednesday

Reading/ Word Study: Find plurals. Decide which suffix has been used - <s> or <es>. How
can you decide whether to add <s> or <es>?
Math: Continue with the daily telling time practice. Please do this on an analogue clock.
Social Studies: Repeat as Monday but this time focus on activities/ games.

Thursday

Reading:
Word Study: Make these words into plurals by adding a suffix.
fox, car, truck, doll, arch, garden, school, box, beach, mango, tomato,
Math: Telling time.
Social Studies: Repeat as Monday but this time focus on clothing.
