~ Magick is Afoot~

BELTANE
Is the Irish Pagan Festival celebrated by many people today.Beltane is the
second Fire Festival of the Celtic Year.It is also the in between time, when

the veil between the worlds is thinning. A great time for Divination and for
seeing of the Fae!
Symbols of growth and fertility are placed on the altar in celebration of the
season. Hawthorn is one of my favorite, and smells of lilac scents.
The Ogham tree symbol for Beltane is the Oak. Oak offers solid
protection, inner strength, and also a doorway to mysteries!! Often used as
the Maypole, strung with long flowing colorful ribbons and adorned a top
with wreaths.
Beltane fires are the most popular event on this Sabbath-as dosing of the
household hearth and relighting from a large communal bonfire-kindled
from 9 sacred woods. The old Scottish rhyme says:
"Choose the Willow of the Streams,
Choose the Hazel of the Rocks,
Choose the Alder of the Marshes,
Choose the Birch of the Waterfalls,
Choose the Rowan of the Shade,
Choose the Yew of Resilience,
Choose the Elm of the Brae,
Choose the Oak of the Sun,
Choose the Ash of the Mound....."
Choosing of the May Queen and May King are also an important part of the
Beltane celebration,as this signifies the fertility of the land with a symbolic
sacred union of the Earthly Goddess and the Vegetation God. Beltane is a
festival of flowers,fertility,sensuality,and delight!!!

Scota is the Tuatha de Danann Goddess of passion, positive
magic; she who can slip through the surface of things and restore
balance Elven World, T.E. Pelton

Scota: An Invocation for Our Times

I call upon Scota in these times when we are looking for the way,
These times when we are asking for peace and end to suffering
To carry away the mind of fear, judgment, trauma, perceptions of
the past
As leaves that fall and blow,
as lifting a burden of material world

I call upon Scota for the energy of the heart that changes the
past, That heals the sick and lost and for whom she gives

Sight to any student asking to know from the heart

I ask Scota for the chance to change the darkness to light within
my heart
To find the way to love by any means
She who I call to see love, to walk the path of love

By which beats the wisdom of now.

My heart sings the same song as the sun
Sounds the same vibration as the moon
I call Scota who walks the path of the wolf
Who waits, silent and hungry

Who dances in the water of the rivers

Who flies above the cool of the mountain top
Who designs this universe in perfect form and geometry
I ask you teach me to turn in the way of the heart
The way of light

And in my view to see kindred instead of loneliness

To see abundance without lack

To see perfection in every movement of the grain as she stands

Swaying in the wind
And from this place, outside of the slavery to this dimension,

I am not alone but watching

I am not rejected but unheard
I am not ignored but beyond the ability of mind to perceive
From here in your way, I can also learn
The changing mind to heart, hate to love, ignorance to
compassion

And lies to truth.

Blessings

Items needed:
Small bell
Fairy dust

Welcome to the Magical World of the Fairies. (pause)

Open your mind, senses and heart to the divine world of perfect
love. (pause)
Surround yourself with dancing candlelight and the colors of the
rainbow as we begin this magical journey. (pause)

Close your eyes and begin slow rhythmic breathing. Inhale,

drawing in everything that is positive. Exhale and release all of
the negativity and tension in your body.(pause)

Begin to allow your body to relax. (pause)

Inhale, imagining every sparkling colour of the rainbow. Exhale,
releasing your tension from the day. Relaxing every portion of
your body. (pause)
Focus on the sound and feel of your breathing as you completely
and totally relax. (pause)
Listen carefully to the sound of your breathing as other sounds
begin to fade into the distance. (pause)
Let your tensions begin to melt and release, flowing down through
your body. As you release the tension it turns to liquid and you
feel it drain, down through your legs and out the bottoms of your
feet. (pause)
As you completely and totally relax. (pause)
Imagine a white crystalline light of energy, spinning above your
head. Begin to pull this white light into the top of your head,
drawing it down until your entire body is full of bright, white,
crystalline light. (pause)
Begin to push the white light to the outside of your body until you
are surrounded with light, just like a protective cocoon. (pause)

You are standing at a large golden door. You open the door you
step into a hallway. At the end of the hallway you see a bright
white light. You are drawn to it. Begin walking towards the white
light. (pause)
When you reach the end of the hallway you step through the white
light and into a rolling meadow of green. (pause)

The sun is shining brightly and the sky is a wonderful blue filled
with billowy clouds. (pause)
You feel a warm breeze brush your face and you hear the songs
of the birds about you. All is peaceful and safe. (pause)
Ahead of you is a dense forest of green. As you walk into the
forest you know that you are alone but completely safe. (pause)

The sunlight shines through the trees, and dances along the path,
making patterns of light all around you. (pause)
You continue, deeper yet into the forest and you come to a
clearing. (pause)
Flowers begin to appear with rich beautiful colours and an
intoxicating fragrance fills the air. (pause)

You hear a gentle rush of water from a stream near by. (pause)
Walk to the stream. The water is clear and warm. (pause)
Gather from the stream 3 magical stones. (pause)
Hold them and feel their power and energy. (pause)
Hold the stones and call on their magic 3 times.

(pause)

What is the magick that your stones contain? (pause)

Turn around; there behind you is a large majestic old oak
tree. (pause)
Place your stones at the base of the tree and ask 3 times for a
visit from a Fairy. (pause)
As you glance at the forest, sparkling orbs of rainbow colors begin
to appear around you. Dancing in and out of the trees. Ring
bell (pause)
You are surrounded with beautiful music and you find yourself in
the heart of the Faerie Ring. In the heart of their perfect love and
magic. (pause)
You feel their magic touch you as they dance and sing. (pause)
The touch of their perfect love allows you to enter the world of
the Fae.
(pause)
You turn to face the Oak tree as the Faerie Gate keepers
appear in their rainbow colors of shimmering light. (pause)
They spread their wings; and sprinkle you with faerie dust and the
entrance in the tree appears. Sprinkle everyone with faerie
dust.(pause)
Step carefully through the veil and enter faerie land (pause)
Youre on a path of soft green moss. (pause)

The Faeries reveal their beauty and magic as they dance all
around you. (pause)
You begin to dance with the Faeries, following them further and
further into their realm. Do you see any other fabled
creatures? (pause)
Soon you hear the rushing of a waterfall. (pause)
You find yourself beside a clear rushing stream, the waterfall above
sending arcs of color into the air. (pause)
As you stand in front of the waterfall a rainbow appears, at that
moment you kneel before it.
From the behind the waterfall an ethereal being
emerges. Kindness, love, and acceptance radiates from her heart
to yours, you are filled with her perfect love, healing and strength.
You feel her touch your soul, filling you with her magic. She
doesnt speak, yet she is heard by all. What is her message?
(pause)
Too soon she returns to her waterfall, and you know it is now time
to take your leave. (pause)

The Faeries will escort you back through this magical kingdom.
(pause)
Leave them trinkets of gratitude as you approach the old oak
tree. (pause)
Exit through the veil from which you entered and find yourself
outside in the twilight of a full moon. (pause)

The Faeries will escort you down the path to the edge of the
forest. (pause)
Dance in the meadow under the full moon and bring back with
you the magic and the perfect love of Fairydom. (pause)
As I begin to count from 5 to 1 you will return to the physical
world. Bringing back with you all that you have learned on your
journey. (pause)
5, 4, 3, 2, 1....... Open your eyes.

Tips for the Solitary Witch

Tips For Solitary Witches written by Jim Garrison
There are a lot more self-initiated Witches out there than practically any
other variety. While it is a valid and legitimate spiritual path, self-initiation
also poses a few unique challenges to those who would seek the Old Gods
on their own. If you are contemplating self-initiation and the building of your
own spiritualpractice based on the Wiccan model, here are some tips to
help make the process go a bit more smoothly.
1. YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO INITIATE YOURSELF
AND TO FOLLOW YOUR OWN, UNIQUE PATHS TO THE GODS.
No one has a monopoly on wisdom, nor on the Mysteries.
Anyone who approaches the gods with sincerity, respect, and integrity
can and will discover their own way to commune with these essential
forces of nature. It requires creativity, persistence, and determination
-- it is a challenging path to take.
2. CLARIFY YOUR INTENT.
Ask yourself "Why am I doing this?" It is wise that you examine your
motivations
-- pursuing such an intensive path as solitary Wicca is not something
to do on a whim, nor is it a "fun" hobby. It's work, and plenty of it.
You don't get to take advantage of someone else's previous efforts,
except for what you can get out of books. You have to build your own
foundation, and establish a mythos and context within which to work.
You can just declare yourself a member of your own tradition, but what
will it mean?
3. GATHER YOUR RESOURCES.
You need to establish a set of ground rules -- guidelines for what you want
and what you plan to do. This will require reading everything you can get.
Try to read a diversity of authors, and don't just read about Witchcraft
-- broaden your horizons as much as possible.

4. IF YOU FIND SOMETHING THAT YOU LIKE, ADAPT IT.

Don't just lift it out of its context. Once you have a basic framework
within/upon which to work, rewrite everything to fit your emerging vision.
Don't be worried about perfection -- you will re-write things many times
as you develop and grow. The more you learn, the more you'll be able to
enhance, refine, and desire to modify your first attempts at a ritual.
When members of a tradition refer to basic things such as their oaths,
the creed of their sect, whatever degree they may have been initiated
into or whatever, these things all mean something within that tradition.
When you are self-initiated, it's all up to you what it all means to you
-- in as far as it applies to you and you alone.
Develop your own unique versions of those elements of the Craft that
you choose to adopt. It's perfectly fine to toss out all the old stuff
and start out on your own path. If you do, there's a lot of baggage to
deal with, and you might not want to toss the baby out with the bath water.
Take some time and reflect upon these things. Make no hasty decisions.
Seek to understand your impetus and motivation for removing or including
the various bits and pieces of Craft material. Personal creativity is a
vital part of the Craft. There's not much room for dogma in an ecstatic,
experiential religion.
5. DRAFT A STATEMENT OF YOUR CORE BELIEFS.
Sign it, date it, and place it in your journal or Book Of Shadows (BOS).
Choose a time each year to re-examine it, meditate upon it, and amend it
if desired. Sometimes this is a good thing to do during the winter months,
perhaps at Candlemas or Imbolc. You decide.
6. DOCUMENT ALL OF YOUR SOURCES WHEREVER POSSIBLE.
Give credit to where credit is due. You have nothing to gain by trying
to pretend that you wrote Gerald Gardner's books. Keep yourself honest
and avoid the ego-inflation that comes with plagiarism. Given time,
and effort, you will develop your own rites. When you do, you don't
want to dilute the meaningfulness of the moment by that nagging little
voice that reminds you that you didn't really do it. Respect your
creativity, maintain personal integrity, and let things develop naturally.
You'll be glad you did.

7. REMEMBER THAT DEGREES REFER TO EXPERIENCE, NOT RANK.

Too many readers of books assume that the various degree systems refer
to the rank and level of power of an individual, and so they strive to get
to the top of the ladder as fast as possible. Don't. The degrees are a
system
of landmarks to allow us all to identify those who have undergone similar
experiences. When you are working alone, there's little to be gained by
initiating yourself into the third degree, assuming the title of elder,
or even calling yourself a Witch queen or magus. These things all have very
real meanings, and claiming what is not rightfully yours is the surest way
to bar your ever attaining it for real. Take your time. Learn all you can,
and work with the gods and mighty ones.
8. ONE BIG ADVANTAGE YOU HAVE AS A SOLITARY PRACTITIONER
S THE LACK OF POLITICS AND DISAGREEMENT.
You decide what to do and just do it. This is impossible in group
situations where you must deliver cues, explain what you are doing,
and accommodate multiple interpretations and viewpoints. As a solitary you
know exactly what you are attempting to do, how you want to do it, and
you
are free to do whatever you will -- it's just you and the gods.
9. SOLITARY WORK IS IDEAL FOR SELF-TRANSFORMATION AND
HEALING.
You can focus on building up your self esteem, creating new habits, and
modifying your lifestyle to suit your spiritual outlook. As a solitary
practitioner, you can build your sabbat and esbat rituals around your
goals and needs in ways that a group could never do. As you progress,
as healing occurs, as changes take place, you will find your practice
likewise changing. Consider this a form of sympathetic magic.
As you become more fully integrated and whole, your rituals will
become more balanced and holistic as well. The Craft is a healing path,
so why not approach it as such?

10. WE ALL LEARN AT DIFFERENT RATES AND IN DIFFERENT

STYLES.
Working alone makes it possible to modify everything to suit your
schedule, circumstances, and requirements. Creativity and sincerity
can guide you in making your Craft practice a viable and vital part of
your life. No matter what disabilities, hindrances, or restrictions
you may have in your life, you can practice Wicca -- if you truly,
honestly desire to do so.
11. BE YOURSELF.
Don't try to be something you're not. Remember the words of the
Charge Of The Goddess, "...if you do not find it within you,
you shall never find it at all." The established traditions
-- Gardnerians, Alexandrians, Algards, Sheba, Georgian, and so on -have specific rites they have developed. Established traditions have
structures, essential teachings, practices, customs, and shared history
that provides a collective context that cannot be accessed by the power
of your will, no matter how hard you try. You can access many of the same
truths, learn the same secrets, celebrate the same rituals, and experience
the same mysteries, but you cannot initiate yourself as a Gardnerian or
Mason. Think about it. Why on earth waste your time trying to be something
you're not? There's precious little room on the path to spiritual development
for self-deceit.Those who truly are drawn to the Craft value honesty.
It is absolutely required of you if you have any spiritual aspirations
whatsoever. You can lie to yourself, but you'll never fool the Gods.
The above article was written solely by Mr. Jim Garrison.

The Goddess Wheel of the Year

The Dianic Goddess Wheel according to Ruth Barrett

In Ruth Barretts book Womens Rites, Womens Mysteries she provides

information on the Dianic Wiccan Wheel of the Year. In Dianic Wicca
instead of the heterosexual dance of the God and Goddess their wheel is
centered on the Goddesss transition from Maiden to Mother to Crone back
to the Maiden again. Bellow I will give a quick summery of the meanings
and themes of each Sabbat in the Dianic Tradition. If this version of the
Sabbats appeals to you and you would like more info, I would suggest you
pick up Barretts book. I have first stated the title of each individual Sabbat
as known in the Dianic Tradition and then added its more common name
in ( ) when needed to help prevent confusion.

Winter Solstice
Main theme: Conception. In the Dianic tradition the Goddess does not give
birth on the Winter Solstice. As this is not a common occurrence in the
Natural world, and offspring birthed at this time would be unlikely to
survive. Instead they view the Winter Solstice as the time that the Goddess
in her Crone stage passes away and conceive Herself as the Child of Light.
To the Dianics Solstice does not mark the rebirth of the Sun, but the
conception of the Maiden Goddess whose birth will come at a later time.

Brigid (Imbolc)
Main theme: Quickening. In the Dianic tradition Brigid celebrates the
Crones transformation and rebirth as the Maiden. In the tradition this is
also the time formal initiations into Dianic Wicca are done.

Spring Equinox
Main theme: Emergence. In the Dianic Tradition the Spring Equinox marks
the Maidens return to the world.

May Eve (Beltane)

Main theme: Menstruation. While most Wiccan and Neopagan traditions
celebrate the marriage, and the sexual joining of the God and Goddess on
Beltane, the Dianic celebrate the Maiden Goddesss first bloods on this day.

Summer Solstice
Main theme: Union. In the Dianic tradition Summer Solstice is the
celebration of fertility, the ability to create and the Mother aspect of the
Goddess.

First Harvest (Lughnasadh)

Main theme: Ripening. In the Dianic tradition First Harvest is the
celebration of the abundance of the Goddess, as well as the obligation of
Sacrifice to the Goddess in Her reaper aspect.

Autumn Equinox
Main theme: Descent. Dianic Wiccans observe the transition of the
Goddess from Mother to Crone on the Autumn Equinox. To the Dianics
this is also a holiday of thanksgiving.

Halloween/ (Samhain)
Main theme: Deeping. On Hallowmas, Dianics believe the Goddess in Her
Crone aspect deepens into Herself and rests. To the Dianics this is also the
time a woman should shed all that is no longer useful and is harmful so
that she can have a fresh start in the New Year. Also according to Z
Budapests, The Holy Book of Womens Mysteries Hallowmas is the time
to honor and remember all the women who died during the Witch Trials.

Some variations to the Dianic Wheel.

While Shekhinah Mountainwater did not call the path she taught Dianic
Wicca, it is very similar to Dianic Wicca and her teachings are very
influential to the Dianic community. Mountainwaters take on the Wheel
of the Year is very similar to the Dianic, but has a few differences where I
will share below. I will only mention the Sabbats that have greatly
differing themes than those in Dianic Wicca. If you would like to learn
more about Mountainwaters views on the Wheel of the year, read her
book Ariadnes Thread: A Workbook of Goddess Magic.

Winter Solstice: In Mountainwaters Wheel the Maiden is spiritually

reborn on the Winter Solstice.

Spring Equinox: The Spring Equinox marks the Maidens physical rebirth
into the world.

Summer Solstice: In Mountainwaters Wheel, the Summer Solstice is a

celebration of Love, Sexuality and the Goddess's impregnation.
Mountainwater notes that this fertilization can be self-made, community
made, or the result of the joining of two lovers.
