Standard Bank Ltd:
Standard Bank Limited (SBL) was incorporated as a Public Limited Company
on May 11, 1999 under the Companies Act, 1994 and the Bank achieved
satisfactory progress from its commercial operations on June 03, 1999. SBL
has introduced several new products on credit and deposit schemes. It also
goes for Corporate and Retail Banking etc. The Bank also participated in fund
Syndication with other Banks. Through all these myriad activities SBL has
created a positive impact in the Market.

Strengths:

Strong Board of Director :

The Board of Director of that Bank is more strong of than other BankMr. Kazi
Akram Uddin Ahmed, Mr. Ferozur Rahman , Mr. Md. Monzurul Alam are
Successful Business margent \person is the Bangladesh and abroad.

Good Management Committee:

Mr. Md. Nazmus Salehin, (Managing Director & CEO) & Mr. Mamun-Ur-Rashid
(Additional Managing Director) has been running the company quite
smoothly for the They have contributed yearly towards the growth and
development of the Bank. The top management has long experience skill full
and efficiency in the financial sector of our country.

Reputation of Standard Bank:


The Standard Bank Bangladesh Ltd. has attained reputed company in
the Banking industries of Bangladesh and international.
Strong online facilities:

The Standard bank Ltd. has arranged modern equipment and facilities. The
electronic facilities are telex, Fax, SWIFT etc. The Standard Bank Ltd. Makes
all transaction of international passport, L/C, message by swift online. The
Bank has computerized banking operation under the software is called DC
bank.

Positioning of Standard Bank:


Standard Bank has come up with a strong positioning from the very
beginning. There are 106 branches around the country (49 in Dhaka)
decorated with impressive style and taste nothing less than that of an

international bank. These well decorated branches gets attention of the


potential customers.

Global corporate culture:

The global corporate culture of the Standard Bangladesh is very much


interactive compared to other local and international organization. This
interactive environment encourages the employees to work in a collaborative
environment. The Bank already has co-operation with 190 Banks covering
118 countries across the world.

Financial stability:

The Standard Bangladesh Ltd. Financial stability is very strong. They have
authorized capital is Tk. 100 crore and paid up capital Tk. 62.775 crore. Total
capital 140 crore. Total Assets Tk. 2435.57 crore. The employers of Standard
Bank Bangladesh Ltd. is very stable business persons in Market such on
Nassa Group, Bexine group of industries etc.

Weakness:

Adverting and promotion:

The Advertising is more exertive in this organization. But there are no


aggressive marketing activities of Standard Bank Ltd. This is making the
bank fall behind its competitors in many aspects.
Advertised are
Billboard : There are few Billboard of Standard Bank Ltd. Which are not
sufficient compared to the vastness of the market.
Incorporate Image: Save the environment by young plant seedling.

Geographical Coverage :

There are 66 district in of Bangladesh. But Standard Bank Ltd. has a number
of branches of Bank 106. 84 are located at main business caters of urban
areas across the country and remaining 6 branches are at rural areas the
bank should be coverage geographical area by expansion their new
branches.

Inefficient employment

The referral culture incase of employment is very popular in Standard


Bank. Because of this, incompetent candidates are soon to get jobs in this
bank because of Nepotism. So, there are many employees who are only
drawing salaries at the end of the month but minimum contributed towards
the organization. Standard bank should appoint highly qualified educated
peoples those are MBA, BBA and CA degree holder.

Limitation of IT system:

Standard Bank is also lacking in its IT facilities. The bank is till using a
software called PC Bank which is quite outdated and slow.

Law remuneration package:

Another weakness of Standard Bank is remuneration structure. Lower level


and mid level officers have a low salary drawing capacities comp[ared to
their contemporizes in other local banks. SO quitefied people having a MBA
or even BBA degree do not show interest in joining Standard Bank. They are
interested to join other banks instead of joining Standard Bank.

Existing Strategies
1. Strong Liquidity and Diversification
The company seeks to further strengthen its liquidity. Aside from this
the companys products and services as well as the markets that it serves
are extremely diversified. The bank has a strong liquidity, a well-diversified
retail funding base and a conservative balance sheet. The bank has a healthy
A/D ration the relation of customer loans to customer deposits at 86
percent; and 24 percent of its assets are highly liquid. The Groups capital
ratios are above the target ranges, reflecting deliberate and effective
management of the capital base.
2. Innovation and Transformation
Standard Bank tries to remain competitive amidst the uncertainties in
the business environment because of its ability to innovate and transform. To
improve performance in these markets, the Group continues to seek

for

diversity in terms of products and services as well as the markets to serve.


3. Growth Strategies
Standard Bank continues to become competitive because of its
successful growth strategies. The Groups strong branches, built mainly
through years of organic growth have positioned it strategically so as to be
able to seize opportunities as they arise in Bangladesh.
