Diploma Supplement
Diploma Supplement Number: .
This Diploma Supplement follows the model developed by the European Commission, Council of Europe and UNESCO/CEPES. The purpose of the supplement is to
provide sufficient independent data to improve the international transparency and fair academic and professional recognition of qualifications (diplomas, degrees,
certificates etc.). It is designed to provide a description of the nature, level, context, content and status of the studies that were pursued and successfully completed by
the individual named on the original qualification to which this supplement is appended. It should be free from any value- judgements, equivalence statements or
suggestions about recognition. Information in all eight sections should be provided. Where information is not provided, an explanation should give the reason why.
The graduate of the department possesses the required knowledge for managing the complete life-cycle (design, implementation, test,
installation, maintenance and support) of modern information and telecommunications systems. The program of studies has been
designed in such a way as to fulfil the needs of modern job markets, as well as to prepare graduates to address the challenges of the
rapidly evolving technologies in the domain of informatics, multimedia and telecommunications. Graduates can follow one of the
available professional paths:
Network engineering
Computer engineering
Software Engineering
Network engineering
The Network Engineering specialisation programme at the Informatics Engineering department of TEI of Crete focuses on the study,
analysis, design, synthesis and implementation of networked audiovisual services and applications, by delving into the architectural and
technological principles of a) telecommunication systems and converged services platforms, b) multimedia creation, manipulation and
delivery over heterogeneous infrastructures, and c) network programming, management and administration for guaranteed QoS
provision. Students of this programme can acquire theoretical knowledge and technical expertise in the above areas, as well as to
develop oral and written communication skills and cultivate creative teamwork, through a number of taught lectures and laboratorybased exercises carried under real or control conditions environments (simulations). More specifically, students can obtain state-of-theart know-how in the following areas:
The program provides its graduates with the necessary breadth and depth of knowledge in order to function as entry-level system
engineers in the industry (offering sustained career growth in design, prototyping, implementation, integration, maintenance and
performance evaluation testing), or enter graduate programs in the field for advanced study.
Computer Engineering
Computer engineering (CE) as an academic field is best viewed as a combination of computer science and electrical engineering. Its
body of knowledge embodies the science and technology of design, construction, implementation, testing and maintenance of software
and hardware components of modern computing systems and computer-controlled equipment.
Computing systems are components in global markets, including automated transportation systems, control systems, consumer
electronics, Internet, infotainment, defense, healthcare and modern manufacturing plants. Nowadays, the widespread convergence of
several established technologies (such as TV, computer and distributed networking technologies integrated in embedded devices)
results in technological advances and innovation that continues to create new challenges and opportunities for computer engineers.
The CE specialization program at TEI of Crete focuses on developing problem solving abilities related to applying algorithmic,
architectural and technological design principles, analysis and synthesis methods, oral and written communication skills and creative
teamwork through a variety of laboratory experiences with live demonstrations. More specifically, students are able to specialize in the
following areas:
Computer Architecture and Embedded Systems Design
Image Processing, Computer Vision and Intelligent Systems
Computer Graphics and Game development
Systems Communication & Control
The program aims to provide its graduates the necessary breadth and depth of knowledge in order to function as entry-level system
engineers in the industry (offering sustained career growth in design, prototype implementation and/or testing), or enter graduate
programs in the field for advanced study.
Software Engineering
The Software Engineering direction of the Informatics Engineering Department includes core and elective courses which aim for the
training of students in Software Engineering. The main objective of the curriculum of this direction is to educate, familiarize and
specialize its students in a range of disciplines related to the lifecycle of software systems. Students who follow this direction are
educated on current techniques on analysis, development, installation, maintenance, and evaluation of Software Systems (different type
and purpose). Emphasis is given to the development of skills in order to be able to apply these techniques to real problems. Another
important objective of the curriculum of this direction is its graduates to gain a high level of professionalism and responsibility that are
required qualifications to work in the scientific area of Software Engineering. Due to the variety of demands in software, the program is
carefully designed to give students the necessary skills in a wide range of software development approaches to enable them to
successfully integrate them to many and varied software development environments in their professional life.

Potential employers of our graduates are both the Public as well as the Private sector. In addition, our graduates are fully equipped to
run their own enterprises focusing on Information System development. Finally, our graduates are fully trained to join research
laboratories, or continue their studies for postgraduate or doctoral studies in National and/or International Academic Institutions.
