Job Report: An Informational Report Regarding Employment as a Physical

Therapist at Good Samaritan Hospital

Good Samaritan Hospital (GSH) is the leading contributor of innovative health-care
services in Dayton, Ohio. Within the past seventy-five years GSH has developed into a
leading full-service teaching facility that distributes the best-in-care cardiovascular,
cancer, and orthopedic services, as well as sophisticated diagnostics and women’s health

The position I am reporting on is in the physical therapy sports medicine department. In


this position the therapist provides their services in order to help people develop, restore,
maintain movement and functional ability. They work with individuals of all ages, from
infants to geriatric clients, with impairments to their physical independence because of
pain or disability (“Career Overview”).

Organization Management
A management team is made up of experienced healthcare executives from different
branches of the medical field. Most of the executives are on hospital boards and help to
create the stable atmosphere and maintain order in the hospital.

The faculty members work together to improve patient health and create a clean and
positive environment. As a physical therapist most work is done between the patient and
themselves, but it is likely that they consult with other physical therapists regularly.

History
Founded by the Sisters of Charity in 1932, The Good Samaritan Hospital is located in
Dayton, Ohio. By taking advantage of the legislation to finance nurses training during
World War II, GSH was able to instruct and preserve some of the top nursing students in
the country. Which permitted the hospital to place an even larger focus on patient care.
“The hospital pioneered the first open-heart surgery in 1959” and in 2007 GSH was
honored with the Solucient Top 100 for Cardiovascular for the fifth time (”History”).

Mission
According to hospitals webpage, GSH’s mission statement is as fallows, “We will build
healthier communities with others who share our commitment to provide high-quality,
cost-competitive health care services (“Mission”).”
Job Description

Job title: Physical Therapist

Duties: Evaluate patients’ condition, develop a therapy program specifically tailored to


each patient, and keep medical records.

Daily Schedule: The hours for a the Sports Medicine Center are from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 
p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Fridays. In this time the
therapist meets with clients anywhere form one to three hours per appointment and works
with them to improve mobility and rehabilitate injuries.

Activities: Physical therapists often apply massages, electrical stimulation, traction, and
ultrasound to patients to lessen pain, improve mobility, and ease the discomfort of
injuries or physical disabilities. Another component of the position is keeping track of the
patients’ record and information and having patient conferences to evaluate their
particular situation.

Travel: This possession is located Dayton, Ohio and will only require the therapist to
travel to the hospital and possibly to some medical conferences.

Formality: There is no official dress listed for this department. It is common however for
physical therapists to dress in professional but somewhat athletic manner.

Requirements / Preferred Qualifications: The minimum requirements for this position are
a PhD from an accredited physical therapy program and you must pass the United Sates
