1.- Introduction
In the installation process of the ANSYS/CivilFEM software that you have acquired, you have to
distinguish two parts: the license server and the ANSYS/CivilFEM software.
Both ANSYS and CivilFEM have a license server which purpose is to offer the floating license in a
LAN (Local Area Network). Every computer in this local net, working with the ANSYS/CivilFEM
installed, can execute the software obtaining both ANSYS and CivilFEM licenses from the machine of
our net in which the license servers have been installed.
It is advisable that both ANSYS and CivilFEM license servers are installed in the same machine to
centralize all of the licenses needed to execute the ANSYS/CivilFEM software. It is recommended that
the server computer would always be switched on, so the ANSYS/CivilFEM licence can always be
available in the net. If you have a net server machine it is strongly recommended to install the license
servers in that computer. In case you do not have this net server machine you can install the license
server in any other machine. Finally, we remember that in the machine in which the license servers are
installed, the ANSYS/CivilFEM software can also be installed, so this computer will offer the licenses
to all the net machines, and on the other hand will be able to work with the ANSYS/CivilFEM
software.

2.- Hardware and Software Requirements:

PLATFORM
Intel IA-32
Intel IA-32

OPERATING SYSTEM
Windows XP (Professional / Home)
Windows 2000 (Service Pack 3)

Windows NT 4.0 is not supported anymore.

3.- Additional Requirements

ANSYS/CivilFEM 10.0 can coexist with ANSYS/CivilFEM 7.0 SP1 or higher. If you have
installed a previous version of CivilFEM (7.0, 6.1, 6.0, etc.), you must uninstall it before
continuing with this installation.

In order to install, you must have administrators privileges.

It is advisable to have a 3D graphic card with updated OpenGL drivers. Some restart problems
have been detected when running ANSYS 10.0 in machines with NVIDIA (TNT, GeForce,)
graphic cards using old drivers, so we recommend the NVIDIA graphic cards users to
update the last version available of its drivers.
Net card and TCP/IP net protocol (a static IP direction is recommended for license server) in
every machine in where you want to run the ANSYS/CivilFEM software.
1 Gb space is needed in the hard disk.
A minimum of 512 Mb of RAM is needed to run this version.

4.- Previous steps to the software installation

In order to be able to run ANSYS you must generate a license key from the identifying data of the
computer in which you want to install the ANSYS license. In order to obtain the identifying data, the
user has to run the Display the License Server Hostid menu option, that appears automatically when
you introduce the CD-ROM (if the system is not configured to auto run CDs you must launch the
3/30

CFStartCD.exe file which is in the root directory of the CD). When pressing on this option it will
appear the following window:

In this window you have to press on the Create File button to generate the file with the identifying
data of the computer. This file must be sent by e-mail to the person who has supplied you the software.
In a few days you will receive the ANSYS license key, so you will be able to begin with the
installation of the software, which is described in the following section.

5.- Installation of the ANSYS license server

When introducing the CD-ROM a window will appear in which you should press the option ANSYS
10.0 License manager only. If the system is not configured to auto run CDs you will have to run the
CFStartCD.exe file that can be found in the root directory of the CD.

4/30

After selecting this option the installation program will begin (Installing Ansys FLEXlm Licensing).
It will ask if this is a license server machine. You should answer Yes.

5/30

In the following dialog you will be asked if you have a license file. You should answer Yes

After transferring files to the hard disk a window will appear that will ask you the way you want to
introduce the licence file. You should select the option Browse for the location of an existing
license file.

6/30

You will have to indicate the path in your hard disk where you have to save the license file that the
supplier sent you by email.

After you have pressed the Open button in the previous window the license file will be installed and
the license server will be initiated so that the ANSYS license will be available in the network.

7/30

6.- Installation of the CivilFEM license server

IMPORTANT NOTE:
In version 10.0 the license server internal working has changed, becoming incompatible with
previous versions. If you want to give license to previous versions, you have to keep installed the
old license server (CivilFEM License Server). The new license server (CivilFEM License
Server 2) gives license from version 10.0. Both license servers (CivilFEM License Server and
CivilFEM License Server 2) can be installed in the same computer.
In order to uninstall the previous version you must go to Start Configuration Control Panel
Add and remove programs and select to uninstall the "CivilFEM License Server". If you have
installed the CivilFEM 7.0 license server or a previous version, before proceeding with the
described uninstallation you will have to first take the following step:
Run the file < CIVILFEMxx_DIR>\CFServer\Desinstala servicio.bat
(where < CIVILFEMxx_DIR > is the directory of the old version of the License Server. For version
7.0 it would be < CIVILFEM70_DIR>\CFServer\Desinstala servicio.bat)
At this moment your machine is prepared for the installation process of the CivilFEM License Server
2.
Before proceeding with the installation process you will have to connect the safety device (black
chip) to the parallel port of the machine. You will need the CivilFEM license file that you must have
received at the same time as the safety device. Following is an example with the content of this file:

9.2.- Administration Utility & Server Administration Utility

This two utilities, one for the client and another one for the license server, allow to easily configure
CivilFEM license system, for local or network installation, and even to change from a modality to
another one with no need of reinstalling the program. They also allow to generate detailed information
for Ingeciber technical support, and to download the lastest updates of the program through Internet.
The configuration of the license server is done with this utility: Server Administration Utility
(Start Programs CivilFEM License Server 2 Server Administration Utility). It allows to easily
update the license file (Change License File), to stop the service and restart it, to check the state of the
server (to see if it really allows connections). It also allows to change the TCP/IP port if there is any
conflict with another program, but it is recommended to always choose port 4005. You can verify if
the server is working with the option "Check Server Status". With the option Internet Update you
can check if there are any updates for your license server, and in that case you can automatically install
them.

The network configuration for the client is done with the utility: Administration Utility (Start
Programs CivilFEM 10.0 Utilities Administration Utility). It allows you to select the name of
the computer in which the license server is installed, and the corresponding TCP/IP port (usually the
4005). You can also verify that the server is working. With the option Internet Update you can check
if there are updates for ANSYS/CivilFEM and in that case you can install them automatically.

28/30

9.3.- Utility License Server Watcher

This utility is available in the CivilFEM license server (Start Programs CivilFEM License
Server 2 LicWatch). With it the Administrator may know, at each moment, which computers have
an active license of CivilFEM, and what kind of license it is.

The window is divided into two lists. The first one (Licenses) contains the type of licenses available in
the server computer. The information this list gives, is the following:
Id: Identification number.
Product: Type of license description.
Mod 1: First module (Bridges and Civil Non Linearities).
29/30

Mod 2: Second module (Geotechnical).

Mod 3. Third module (Advanced Prestressed Concrete).
Nods: Number of available nodes.
Elems: Number of available elements.
Lic. Total: Total number of licenses of each type.
Lic. Used: Number of used licenses.
Lic. Available: Number of available licenses of each type.
The second list (Sessions) shows information about the state of the actual sessions:
Id: Identification number.
Client: Computer in which the license is being used.
Product: Type of license description.
Mod 1: First module (Bridges and Civil Non Linearities).
Mod 2: Second module (Geotechnical).
Mod 3. Third module (Advanced Prestressed Concrete).
Nods Lim: Number of available nodes.
Elems Lim: Number of available elements.
Initial time: Time at which the session started.
The Kill Selected Session button allows to cancel a launched license, closing its CivilFEM session. To
do this it is necessary to select the Id field of the license to cancel.
The data update is done automatically.
