Reflection Paper # 1 (Righteous Greed)

How do I prepare my life so do not fall victim in righteous greed?

It is well known in Section 82 the words of the Lord that states:
I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say,
ye have no promise (DyC 82: 10)
And because of it many members of the church, as Richard Halverson states in
his paper, are often reasoning that they are worthy, not of the blessings the
Lord wants to give them, but the blessings they think they deserve. King
Benjamin told the Nephites:
And now, in first place, he hath created you, and granted unto you your lives,
for which ye are indebted unto him. And secondly, he doth require that ye
should do as he hath commanded you; for which if ye do, he doth immediately
bless you; and therefore he hath paid you. And ye are still indebted unto him,
and are, and will be, forever and ever; therefore of what ye have to boast?
(Mosiah 2: 23-24)
A spiritual way of preparation to avoid righteous greed is to remember our own
nullity before God, to remember as King Benjamin said, that we all are indebted
with God and forever will be. Also the Lord said that wherever our heart is also
our treasure, meaning that no mater our actions, if our intention is not
righteous we will not receive the blessing. Another way of protecting myself
from this kind of greed is full filling the commandments, not with a desire of
blessings but for real love and intent to honor my Heavenly Father and His Sons
and Daughters.
How does the Law of the Harvest apply in my life?
In the video it is shown the importance of acting, not only diligently, but also
using the tools and resources you have to accomplish our goals even if it is
risky. Like in the parable of the talents, the last servant hide his talent because
he was afraid of losing it, which means that there was a risk of negotiating with
it. The Old farmer in the video didnt planted the seeds because it was too risky.
You cant expect have results if you have not even tried it. I think that God has
given me the tools (seeds) to accomplish what I want but its not going to come
(Harvest) if I dont plan (analyze risks and find ways to resolve future problems)
and act accordingly to my goal (diligently labor in what I desire).
In what ways can you make sure that your financial goals are
appropriate, realistic and obtainable?
The Lord has commanded us to ask Him if we lack wisdom, then it is key to
have revelation as a foundation for setting my financial goals, but also by
avoiding righteous greed and pondering some hints provided by the author are
also useful:

Asking myself if the result relies mostly on really improbable events.

Avoiding any feelings that could affect a well pondered decision, like
Greed or Laziness.
Study well my finances and my resources to avoid being ignorant of my
economic situation.
Making sure Im setting my goals with an appropriate priority.
