During the second part of the workshop Watt Watchers of
Texas presented SECO’s Renewable Energy Campaign –
Infinite Power of Texas Fact Sheets and Lesson Plans. The
teachers separated into groups and the elementary teachers
stuck together for this afternoon of hands on activities, while
the High School teachers confidently got started in their own
area of the Alvin HS library. The teachers worked on the
elementary lesson plan “Testing the Power of the Sun” where
they built a pizza box solar cooker and once again the

the project are offered throughout the afternoon. Following
the sessions, students present their findings and ideas to
the other students with the help of the group leader.

So where do you as an Energy Manager fit in? We need to

get you in touch with these students and we have found
that the best way to do that is to get you all together and
teach you about the programs that Watt Watchers has
available to Texas Schools and help you get started saving
energy by working together. We would like for you to present
a short session on what your district is doing to reduce
energy waste to make the students aware of efforts are being
made and how they can help you in saving energy on their
campus. It is also very good for them to find out the reality
of what their school spends on energy each month and how
reducing the energy cost could benefit the district in so many
ways: new equipment, more teachers, and new schools.

David Sergeant from McKinney ISD heard about the Energy

News
New look for Watts News!
Certainly you have realized by now that this issue of Watts News
has a new look. This new look includes more pages of color and it
has two sections. The Watt Watchers staff is excited about these
changes. We are anticipating even more upgrades to WATTS NEWS
as we strive to bring you the best in energy efficiency related news
plus ideas and information about the Watt Watchers program. If
you have a suggestion for the newspaper please email us at
info@wattwatchers.org

New Watt Watchers Website!

The new site address: wattwatchers.org is up and running without
interruption to our visitors. Those Watt Watchers accustomed to
using wattwatchers.utep.edu as the website address for Watt
Watchers will not notice a difference because the site automatically
redirects to our new address. Program materials will list the new
wattwatchers.org address as we phase out materials. Meanwhile,
2 either address will get you to the Watt Watchers website, visit soon
and come back often. wattwatchers.org

Pull out Posters

T
here are two full color 16x20 inch
posters in every issue of WATTS
NEWS. Pull out the center page of
Section A and laminate it. You will always
have great posters to perk up your walls or
bulletin boards. If you get tired of looking at
a poster simply flip it over and display the
great graphic on the other side – they are
reversible.

In this issue we are featuring the cover of

our new folder and the District Energy
Council. The folder will contain all of our flyers
that summarize each of the Watt Watchers
program elements plus our CD-ROM. We
have re-printed all these here to give you an
idea what the whole collection will look like.
Sometime soon, we hope to print a full color
newspaper that collects all of our full-size
posters in full color. See an article about
