Gun Control Debate Explodes on The Five. The Five: FOX News. 28 August 2015. Viewed 30
March 2016.
This is a video clip from FOX News, The Five, in which gun control and anti-gun control
ideas clash. The purpose of this video is to educate the viewer on the current gun rights vs. gun
control debate. This video is also likely created to stir emotion among its viewers since it thrives
off of the clashing of two conflicting ideas.
This source gave me a very good idea of the gun rights vs. gun control argument. It also gave me
an idea of the enthusiasm with which each side defends its argument. This discussion was held
following a shooting in Virginia, in which a mentally unstable news anchor shot and killed his
colleague while wounding another. Many of the pro-gun rights activists suggested background
checks that would prevent mentally unstable citizens from purchasing firearms. The pro-gun
control activist argued the current gun-obtainment process is far too lenient, and frowned upon
the citizens right to own firearms.
The information in this video was given by FOX News The Five. While FOX News has often
been accused of biased practices, I believe that the information in this video is accurate because
of its format as a debate. In this case, information is being presented by both sides. Also, the
reporters that participate in the debate usually tie their information to an original source.

Gun Control versus Gun Rights. Laws.com. n.d. Web. 23 March 2016.
http://gun.laws.com/gun-rights/gun-control-versus-gun-rights.
This article goes fairly in depth to describe the gun rights vs. gun control debate. Similar to
ProCon.org, this article lists the most popular arguments made by each side in this debate. It is
interesting that this article blends the elements of the ProCon.org article and statistics element of
the article by Sage Publications to create a well-balanced overview of the debate, supported by
facts and statistics. This article does not present information in a biased way, it seems to display
popular arguments and explain them with statistics in a neutral manner that does not attempt to
sway the readers opinion.
I agree with the information dispersed by this article because I can find aspects of each side of the
gun rights vs. gun control debate that make sense and seem reasonable. I agree with the point that
the gun rights vs. gun control debate, goes beyond just the mere notion of "I like guns vs. guns
are dangerous." Reasons for gun control, such as the high level of gun-related deaths in the US,
make sense to me, while I do not technically agree with the overall idea of gun control. I
appreciate that this article displays information from the other side that I have not seen yet, but
can find truth and reasoning in.
This is a credible site due to its original meaning of existence as a source of information for
lawyers. Laws.org acts as a source of information and interpretation of laws and the possible
arguments that made be made by each side during a debate regarding any specific law. One of the
mission statements of Laws.org is, to innovate legal technology, whether to develop new
products to help over a million of our users have unbelievable experience or lawyers achieve their
goal to acquire more clients. Laws.org does not seem to hide its identity, posting a simplistic
Contact Us page, in which the organization ensures a response within 24 hours.

Sage Publications. From the Polls: Gun Control. Sage Journals. January 2003. Web. 29
February 2016.
This article is very heavily based upon statistics, which is very important for providing a
supported argument. This article seems to present statistics as being a means of why people are
concerned about the ownership of guns. However, this source is arguably the most closely related
source to my topic of inquiry. This is determined through the direct relation that is shown through
the statistics. For example, one statistic that is displayed reads, The same poll finds that even
most gun owners (57 percent) support stricter gun controlversus 32 percent who would like to
see less strict gun control. While other sources use statistics that lead to assumptions and
interpretations, this source asks the most direct questions that are related to the gun rights vs. gun
control debate.
I found this information to be very helpful. This source manages to make itself unique in regards
to the direct manner of its statistics. This eliminates the gray area that may be caused by statistics
that lead to interpretations and not direct conclusions. This will help in my argument to eliminate
gray area and provide direct conclusions as they pertain to the gun rights vs. gun control debate.
This source is absolutely credible due to its title as peer-reviewed, meaning that it has been
reviewed for accuracy by other scholars and has passed through successfully. This article also
acknowledges the original sources of some of the borrowed information; for example, this article
acknowledges the use of information from the Harris Poll and ABC News.

Should More Gun Control Laws Be Enacted? ProCon.org. 26 February 2016. Web.
2 April 2016.

This article, Should More Gun Control Laws Be Enacted? is primarily to inform the average
reader about the gun rights vs. gun control debate. This article uses a Pro/Con table to directly
identify the arguments made by the pros of the gun control debate and the cons of possibly
controlling firearms. There seem to no signs of biased views shown on this website. This website
is a .org site, which means that it is an organization, which uses the theme of Pro/Con to educate
its readers on political and other important topics.
I found the information on this source to be very interesting and helpful. I noticed that I felt much
emotion while reading this article. I agreed and disagreed at times, but with a passion most every
time. I originally viewed this source to find information on the pro-gun control argument, but
instead of finding just the information on the pro-gun control argument, I found a direct relation
between the pro-gun control and anti-gun control arguments. Since my topic of inquiry is Gun
Rights vs. Gun Control, the direct comparison between each argument will certainly educate
myself and the reader, while hopefully invoking the same emotion in the reader that I
experienced.
Following a brief investigation, I found that ProCon.org is certainly a credible source. While most
incredible sources, such as Climate Depot, are remiss in displaying company codes or creator
information, ProCon.org displays an entire page explaining mission statements and other
information about ProCon.org. In an attempt to prove its authenticity, ProCon.org uses the
mission statement, "Promoting critical thinking, education, and informed citizenship by
presenting controversial issues in a straightforward, nonpartisan primarily pro-con format."
ProCon.org is also open about where it receives its money and from whom by displaying its
sponsors and donors on its website. As for its base of information, ProCon.org claims that it
receives its information from sources that include websites, magazines, newspapers, libraries,
transcripts, videos, interviews, emails, legislation, direct correspondence, and more.
Wilson, Harry. The Triumph of the Gun-Rights Argument: Why the Gun Control Debate is Over.

Misenheimer 5
Santa Barbara: 2016. Print.
This is good example of what the pro-gun rights argument is founded upon. This book attempts to
explain that the argument of whether or not guns should be controlled is over. The argument of
this book focuses mostly on the guaranteed right to bear arms that is given to, The People by
the Second Amendment, while many other pro-gun rights arguments use statistics to show why
self-defense is a greater commodity than controlling guns and aiming to eliminate domestic
attacks.
I really agree with the argument of this book. Most people will argue statistics to get their points
across, but the main idea of this book is that none of that is very relevant due to the guaranteed
right to bear arms that is given to, The People under the Second Amendment. Therfore, the
controversy of whether or not guns should be allowed is over. However, that does not mean that
guns may not be controlled to a certain degree, as long as it does not hinder the law-abiding
citizens right to purchase and acquire a firearm in a timely manner. It is another excellent
perspective that will add wonderfully to the collaboration of ideas in my inquiry.
I have no doubt that the information presented in this book is completely accurate. The author,
Harry Wilson, has received strong accolades from well-known scholars such as David B. Kopel,
who is the Research Director at the Independence Institute, and Gregg Lee Carter, who is a
Professor at Bryant University. Harry Wilson is also a well-known and established scholar
himself, having earned a PhD, taught political science at Roanoke College, written other books
pertaining to guns and gun control, and accomplished other prestigious accolades.
