DESCRIPTION
The E. SHDSL Dual 2-Wire Repeater 239 SHDSL Regenerator Unit (239 SRU) provides two independent E.SHDSL 2Wire SRU devices in a 239 form factor. The 239 SRU installs
in pre-wired 239-sized outside plant (OSP) repeater
housings and apparatus cases. The 239 SRU Supports
SHDSL (192 Kbps - 2.3 Mbps) and E.SHDSL (192 Kbps 5.7Mbps) applications in accordance with ITU G.991.2.

INSTALLATION
Before installation, inspect the 239 SRU. If damage has occurred during
shipping, file a claim with the carrier, and then contact ADTRAN
Customer Support. For more information, refer to Warranty.
Install the 239 SRU by completing the following steps:
1. Set the dip switches to configure the 239 SRU for the installed location in the circuit. Refer to Dip Switches below for details.

Front Panels LEDs

When the 239 SRU first powers up it performs self-tests. Once the power
up self-tests are complete, the status LEDs will reflect the true state of the
hardware.

These switches determine device startup behavior and will not change
device functionality while the 239 SRU is operational.

An extended reach E.SHDSL service can be provided

consisting of up to four 239 SRUs per loop and powered by an
ADTRAN 3192 Octal LPU (P/N 1181504G1) or up to eight 239
SRUs (four P/N 1225245G1s; and four 1225245G2s) per loop
when powered by an ADTRAN 3192 Octal LPU
(P/N 1181504G1) from both ends of the loop. This document
supports the following versions of the E.SHDSL Dual 2-Wire
Repeater (239 SRU).

DEPLOYMENT APPLICATIONS
The maximum distance achievable with the 239 SRU is dependant on the total distance in the loop powering segments. The table below provides single
gauge cable powering guidelines with the assumption that both pairs are powering the 239 SRUs. Each row details the maximum loop length allowed
between 239 SRUs to adequately power the full span at the specified rates. A Typical Application is illustrated below using the 239 SRU. The typical
deployment uses an ADTRAN 3192 Octal LPU at the Central Office (CO) and uses up to four 239 SRUs (P/N 1225245G1) to reach the customer site. The
illustration below the Typical Application is a Maximum Reach Application using eight 239 SRUs with Octal LPUs at both the CO and Customer sites.

NOTE
The default configuration for the Maximum Reach Application uses the 239 SRU (P/N 1225245G1) at the CO-powered locations, and the 239 SRU
(P/N 122545G2) at the CUST-powered locations.
The Maximum Reach Application can still use the 239 SRU (P/N 1225245G1) for the entire loop, but the wiring for the back powered repeaters will
need to be reversed for a successful deployment.

REPEATER POWERING TROUBLESHOOTING

The 1181504G1 Octal LPU has 16 front panel LEDs to indicate the status of the
powering pairs. The table below provides a description of the Fault Conditions
and recommended Corrective Actions associated with the LED Alarm Indications. Corrective Actions are implemented via CLI Commands. The section
following this table provides instructions for running the CLI Commands and
the expected output.

repeater is wired incorrectly.

1. Verify wiring from the LPU is connected to the LP1-A and LP2-A ports (power in) on the first
repeater (see card edge pin assignments diagram and consult housing manual)
2. Run TSCAN from the endpoint (LTU/NTU) on the port that the LPU indicates has a fault.

LPU 18
LINE

Brief Yellow or Red -

A short or ground fault exists

on a segment after the first
repeater.

1. Run the topology CLI command to identify the repeater segment that indicates the fault.
2. Run the repeater-powering CLI command to the repeater associated with the identified segment.
3. Run TSCAN to the repeater on the identified segment.

LPU 18
LINE

Brief Red - clears immediately but reoccurs at

regular intervals.

An open circuit exists on one

of the powered segments in
the repeater span or the chosen rate and distance exceeds
the powering capabilities of
the LPU.

1. Run the repeater-powering CLI command to power the first repeater.

2. Run the topology CLI command to verify both ports train up to this repeater.
If either port status is Down for several minutes and never transitions to hs or train,
this port is the open circuit. Otherwise, repeat the above steps for each repeater in the span.
If the LPU overload condition occurs during these tests, this typically indicates the chosen
rate and distance exceeds the powering capabilities of the LPU.
If the last repeater in the span is powered up and all segments are trained, this indicates the
last repeaters power dip switch is not properly set to DRY.

If no fault conditions are indicated by the LPU but neither

port will train past a particular repeater in the span, this
can indicate an improper
power dip switch setting on
that repeater.

1. Use the repeater-powering CLI command to power all repeaters in the span.
If either port trains past the blocking repeater, then that repeaters power dip switch is
not properly set to PWR.

Red

clears immediately, and

does not return.

CLI TROUBLESHOOTING COMMANDS

The steps below provide the required CLI commands for each Corrective
Action procedure recommended in the preceding table. The commands
must be completed in the order of the above procedure. To begin, log into
the system connected to the 239 SRU.

Run Topology Command

NOTE
The repeater-powering and TSCAN test commands on the next
page utilize the following inputs:
The values <1-4> represent the repeater number in the targeted
circuit. Even though there may be up to 8 repeaters in the circuit,
only 4 can be powered from a single endpoint.
A time-out value of 0 means the time-out is disabled.

1. Access the Enable Prompt.

2. Run the topology CLI command to find which repeater segment
indicates a fault. The Flt field at the bottom of each column
displays which segment is returning a fault.

The 239 SRU does not require routine hardware maintenance for normal
operation. ADTRAN does not recommend that repairs be attempted in
the field. Repair services may be obtained by returning the defective unit
to ADTRAN. Refer to the warranty for further information. Field support
for software is provided through upgrade facilities.
