5. For the fluid power system in the following fig, the following data is given:

The total pressure drop in the line from the pump discharge port to rod end of the

6. For the hydraulic system shown in the figure, the following data are given:
a. The pump is adding 3730 W to the fluid.
b. Pump flow is 0.001896 m3/s.
c. The pipe has a 25.4-mm inside diameter.
d. The specific gravity of the oil is 0.9.
e. The elevation distance between stations
1 and 2 is 6.096m.
f. The elevation distance between stations
2 and 3 is 20 cm.
Find: a. The pressure available at the inlet
to the hydraulic motor (point 2).
b. The exit pressure out off the
hydraulic motor (point 3).
c. The input power to the motor.
Knowing that the pressure at the station 1 in the hydraulic tank is atmosphere, the head
loss between stations 1 and 2 is 9.144 m of oil and the head loss between 3 and 1 is 10m
of water.
7. Describe the construction and the operation of the hydraulic circuit shown in the
figure. The following data is given:
- The cylinder piston diameter is 20 cm and its rod diameter is 10 cm.
- The retract speed is 10 cm/s
- The pump volumetric efficiency is 0.92 and its mechanical efficiency is 0.9.
- The pump speed is 1800 rpm
- The setting of relief valve pressure is 50 bar.

Find:
1. The maximum allowable load for both
extension and retraction strokes.
2. The extension speed.
3. The maximum power of the cylinder.
4. The pump displacement volume.
5. The pump maximum theoretical torque.
6. The pump maximum input-power.
7. The pump input-power consumed when
the press cylinder is locked.

Modify the circuit into a regenerative circuit.


List the major advantage and disadvantage of a regenerative cycle.

in the following figure:

9. In order to control a press cylinder, a double-pump hydraulic system, shown in the
figure, is used.
i.
Describe the operation of the hydraulic circuit.
ii.
The press cylinder having a piston of 140mm-diameter and a 100-mm diameter
rod is to have an initial approach (extended high-speed) of 5 m/min and final
pressing (extended low-speed) of 0.5 m/min. the system pressure for rapid
approach (high-speed part) is 40 bar and for the final pressing (low-speed part) is
350 bar. The drive speed of both pumps is 1720 rpm. Both pumps have
volumetric and overall efficiencies of 0.95 and 0.85 respectively.
Determine:
8. The flow rate to the cylinder for rapid approach
and final pressing.
9. The pressing force and power.
10. The displacement volume of each pump.
11. The input-power required during rapid approach
and during final pressing for each pump.
12. The input-power consumed when the press
cylinder is locked. How can you reduce this
power? (The relieve-valve setting is 400 bar).
13. The retract speed if the pressure required for
retraction is 25 bar maximum.
