Aug. 5, 1985

Hello, friends in America!

. \ I'

We praise the Lord for a safe return to our home in ^Italy. He had
beautiful flights from Tulsa to Roma, then Roma to Brindisi. All went

well. All our luggage arrived with us and got through customs O.K. We
had a good day at the airport in Roma visiting with Americans and
Italians. Charles spent the last 45 minutes there before our connecting
flight to Brindisi explaining to a young American woman married to an
Italian the difference between the Roman Catholic beliefs and the Word.

We praise God for opportunities He affords us everywhere.

We miss all of you and. want once again to say "Thank you" to all who
ministered so beautifully to us during our short stay in America. To those
we didn't see this time, we look forward to being with you our next
furlough.

Upon our arrival, Caranita Wolsieffer and Jim Cormode picked us up

at the airport (in two cars to accomodate our luggage). While Jim and
Charles caught up on news of the work, Ivia and Caranita did the same.
There are, as usual, exciting things going on, such as new contacts
through the radio, new prospects for Fall Bible Study, new developments
in.the lives of people discovered through Radio Incontro shortly before

we left in April...AND camp is in full swing! In fact, Charles is out

there as I (Ivia) write this bit of news to you. Also, we have been to
the Air Force Base Chapel, renewed our friendships and made new contacts
there. Charles will be speaking in the public square of a town north of
here with other missionaries...more of this later.

A sad note: yesterday we were present at the funeral of a 13-year-old

girl, Mara, daughter of Nicola and Franca, whom Charles had-known since

they were small children. Mara had suffered brain damage at birth. She
lived her entire life paralyzed, unable to give any sign of understanding
what was said to her. Please pray with us for her parents. Since she re
quired constant and complete care and love, for all these years Mara had
been their very life. Now there will be a much needed rest and adjustment,
but very hard for these fine Christian parents.

Well, dear ones, that's a part of the news. More later. Please keep
praying and supporting the work here as God blesses us each one.
Love and prayers.

'We give thanks to God always for ail of you,

making mention of you in our prayers,"I Thess.l:?

Our job is to study His Word and obey His

today divide the church over things which
at best are matters of opinion. Our ideas
are more important to us than the unity for

Ray has lived in Joplin for many years, graduated from Ozark Bible College (now

Joplin. This service has greatly speeded up our news to you, as well as yours to us.
And Ray's promptness makes an ideal combination with his computers! We have known Ray

We wish to express a special 'Thank You' to Ron and Linda Slaughter for their

them, and are praying His blessing of guidance in all they do.

She needs mucb prayer especially because of fierce family opposition to her faith,
<> niCHELE PELLICAWI of Wanduria (a town near Francavilla) asked for help with a small group

of men, all but one young and single. CbarJes preaches Sunday evenings and teaches Bible
study Tuesday nigbts there. Attendance has more than doubled since he began. It is a
real challenge, since they have hardly any Bible knowledge and are hungry to hear
the Good News.

<> Wednesday Bible study in Latiano, and Thursday in Francavilla, have begun with
Charles teaching.

<> Charles is preaching at the USAF San Vito Base Chapel by invitation in Friday evening
services in September and October. He will begin a 6-wee/c series of studies for
American military people Nov.4 at the Christian Servicemen's Center at San Vito
on Monday evenings.

<> He are thankful Ivia's legs have been strong enough for her to accompany Charles,
and to hostess and minister to so many, especially to lonely people, who are always
in our prayers. Jvia was left alone for more than nine years with a family to
raise before Cod brought her and Charles together.

PRAISE THE LORD! As you can see, there is much to do heremany souls to harvest,

many saints to minister to, many who are eager to learn from God's Word. So, please, dear
ones, continue to keep all these, and us, in your prayers. And know that we are thank
ful for your continued support. May God richly bless you as together we serve Him!

for the arrival Nov.23,1985 of our second great-grandchild, CAROL ANN

BOCK. Her big brother (3-yrs.old), Chuckie, is so proud, and so are we!
How we long to hold them both, and will do so in God's time.
SORROWS
Like most families, we've had our share of sorrows also.

On Nov.8, Charles' youngest brother, Leonard, left this life to be with

the Lord. He left his wife, Marlon, two married children, four grandchildren,
and another brother, Donald.

Dec.31, Halcolm "Mac" Coffey went home to the Lord. The funeral took place
New Year's Day in the church at Bari. Mac, with his wife Hilma, brought their
first child, Patricia, with them to Italy in 1953. Nark, Scott, and Valeri

were born here during the Coffey's faithful and effective years of missionary

'

service. He were very close, and had spent years working together.

Minor hi/ comparison, but a real problem nonetheless was having our car vandalized
four time in three days. Now the Lord has led us to a place where we can park it
behind locked gates. And it still runs! P.T.L. The shocking and tragic deaths
caused by terrorists at Rome and Vienna airports both sadden us and remind us
of the desperate need for the Gospel, as He said, "in all the world".
SOLUTIONS
He can

PRAY. Give all our sorrows and problems to God since we know He is in control.

GROH. Give it all you've got. Keep working, witnessing, teaching, living
for the Lord.

SOH. God gives the increaseHe adds to the church. Christ is the life.

PLANS

You may have wondered, since Gulseppe Ital^iano and Charles worked together for the
Lord In Terracina for years, what the news la from him now. We praise the Lord that

Gulseppe is still going strong for the gospejl

Since our return to Italy, we have been

with him and his wife several times in Terr, acina and also at Camp. Last August, Gulseppe

suggested that since we have so heavy a schiieUl<e here, and since working funds have
been insufficient to provide for his salary. that he and his brother-in-law, Vito
Gentile, would begin working together, with ^ ito finding support for their combined work,
We approved, especially since we are quite dliistant from them now while Vito at Ciampino

is close to Gulseppe.

With the holidays over, we are now back in full swing with radio follow-up, Bible
studies, counseling, preaching, teachingalJ] the things that make our calling busy,
fruitful and a joy!

Please continue to keep us in your prayersj.

as we do you.
