Part 1: Composing Processes
I have used many different composing processes in past classes and
assignments throughout middle school and high school, as well as in my first
semester of college before this class. I have taken several writing classes in
the past where I have used many composing processes in composing
different papers and documents. I have also had to uses these processes in
classes like history, and science when writing a research paper or lab report.
I believe these composing processes are extremely important. They
allow the writer to stay organized and keep their thoughts and ideas in order.
Composing processes are also extremely customizable which allows writers
to alter their processes to fit their needs and writing styles. I also think that
composing processes are important because I believe they help writers
produce better work than when writing without the use of composing
processes.
I think many different types of people, if not everyone, need to have
these types of skills. Workers from writers to business owners to scientists
have these kinds of skills. Not only do composing processes allow you to
produce good work, but they also help the writer stay organized. These

things would make it easier for someone to write research papers, theses,
business reports and plans, and manuscripts.
In the future, I expect that I will need these types of skills in completing
my undergraduate education and hopefully my graduate education. I also
think I will need composing processes skills when I begin a career. I plan on
working in the art or fashion industry where I may need to write reports or
reviews and these skills will definitely be very useful to me.

Part 2: Critical Reading

I used critical ready many times throughout high school in my English
and literature classes. In high school, we focused a lot on the deeper
meanings of literature and different works of writing
I think critical reading is one of the most important literary skills to
possess because it allows you to be able to analyze, interpret, and evaluate
writings. These skills also can help you to understand different things that
you are reading and make it easier to analyze and evaluate these texts.
These skills can be very useful in fields like science, history, and
literature. Scientist can use these skills to analyze data and information they
collect form different experiments. Historians may use these types of skills to
determine why certain historical events may have happened and help
determine what types of events may happen in the future. Writers and
readers use critical reading skills in order to evaluate what they are reading
and writing. Critical reading skills are also useful to people who write reviews

or reports on different writings because they can help them to understand

what they are reading and be able to analyze it in order to write these
reviews and reports.
I believe I will need critical reading skills throughout the rest of my
college career, in undergraduate school and hopefully graduate school, as
well as in whatever career I decide to pursue after college. Critical reading
skills will be useful in many different classes as I complete college. I am an
art history major, so I believe these skills will be beneficial to me in
interpreting art and analyzing their meanings.

Part 3: Contextualized Learning

I think the one assignment we have done in this class where we most
needed to utilize the concept of composing processes skills was the Literacy
Narrative. Since we were given several weeks to do this assignment, we
needed to be able to use different techniques in order to write our paper in
an organized and productive manner. These skills not only were useful in
helping us to outline and organize our papers and our main ideas and topics,
but they also aided in actually composing the final drafts of the paper.
We used critical reading skills in our Peer Review assignment for the
Literacy Memoirs. We needed to be able to understand what we were reading
and be able to analyze, interpret, and evaluate the reading that we were
peer reviewing. These skills were important because they helped us to

produce good, helpful, and productive reviews and suggestions for our peers
papers.
One assignment that required us to used critical reflection skills was
our Literacy Memoir. With each draft that we created, we needed to be able
to go back and analyze what we have already written and combine that with
our thoughts and ideas that we have yet to write about. Critical reflection
skills also allow us to go back and reflect on what we have written and build
on it and make it better.
We have used rhetorical knowledge in creating our Extended Inquiry
Project. Within this project we are creating many different ways in which we
will be presenting the information we have collected and we are using these
skills to analyze and compose these different elements. These skills also help
us to create these different elements with an understanding of our audience
and purpose and with flexibility in our tone and style.
An assignment that we completed using knowledge of conventions
skills was the Literacy Memoir. We used these skills in making sure our
papers were grammatically correct, well structured, and correctly cited. We
had very specific guidelines about how we needed to cite our sources and
references and these skills were very helpful in creating our citations
correctly.
