Aviat Networks a leading global provider of microwave networking solutions requires the skills of a Customer Solutions Engineer in the PreSales Engineering
team.

The Customer Solutions Engineer function at Aviat Networks is responsible for all pre-sales technical interaction with Aviat Networks customers for the purposes
of understanding their network, consulting to and work shopping with the customers to find the optimal solution for their needs based on their short term
network architectural and budgetary goals, and longer term technology strategy.

This position reports to the Head of Solution Engineering, MEA and requires an individual with excellent interpersonal skills, as well as an in-depth technical
understanding of microwave technologies, TDM and IP transmission network design.

Key Responsibilities:
Consult on and develop end-to-end network requirement definitions, relating to the broader telecommunications ecosystem based on best practice endto-end solution concepts and in line with Aviats core business.
Develop optimal solutions by marrying an in-depth understanding of the customer needs, priorities and budgetary constraints with available and future
Aviat Networks products
Develop high level solution designs and engineering, including the complete solution scope such as; Microwave, Router, Power and other needed elements
including OEM 3rd party.
Provide feedback into PLM and Engineering on potential product issues and enhancements based on customer and regional needs
Undertake high-level network/system level design, in order to determine radio link capacities, redundancy and diversity requirements, including TDM,
Ethernet and IP networking functionality
Perform microwave path design and analysis in order to determine antenna requirements, tower placement and height,
Perform advanced IP planning; statistical multiplexing, overbooking, MPLS, IP Synchronization(SyncE, 1588v1/2, NTP), QoS (MEF 9 & 14) 802.1q/p/e/d,
Ethernet Ring Protection, Ethernet OAM (Y1731, 802.1ag)
Planning of DCN, sub-netting, OSPF areas
Determine the required type of radio, multiplexing and or routing/switching equipment, Network Management System (NMS), power systems, etc.
Assessment of suitability of TDM vs. Ethernet/IP transmission types for customer, as well as most suitable migration path from TDM to Ethernet.
Represent Aviat Networks at customer engagements to determine the customers telecommunication needs.
Present, workshop and defend solution designs with customer.
Engage in regular interaction with the customers (internal and external) throughout project lifecycle.
Ensure process compliance according to Aviat Networks Process Map.
Manage projects, perform internal handovers ensuring a smooth and successful transition of projects with in PreSales Engineering and into the post-sales
implementation process.
Encourages and supports submission of ideas (business, solution, improvements)

The Customer Solutions Engineer will liaise with:

Customer: CTO, transmission planning managers, transmission team, IP & DCN network planning managers and team
Internal
Sales management and regional sales team
Sales Engineers in EMEA
Network Engineers in EMEA
Technical Marketing in MEA
Product Management in US, Slovenia and New Zealand

Desired Skills and Experience

Communications, Engineering or IT Degree specializing in IP or Transmission (or Equivalent Technical Qualification).
IP/Network Certification with a minimum of CCNP/JNCIP or equivalent
Specialist knowledge in one or more of Aviat's core product/solution portfolios including 3rd party partner products.
Preference given to Kenyan national
Essential:
10+ years experience as a transmission network and systems engineer.
Specific knowledge and experience relating to microwave transmission design and associated software tools.
Experience in a Pre-sales environment.
5+ years experience with Ethernet/IP transmission system design and optimization.
Demonstrable understanding of fixed and mobile network architectures (GSM/UMTS/LTE) and associated ecosystems.
Proven experience in Customer Product/Technology Presentations and workshops.
Broad-based end-to-end system and solution design experience.
Solution selling experience.
RFQs preparation and response.
Knowledge of ITU/IEEE/MEF Recommendations rules & regulations.
Minimum fluent in English (Speak, Read & Write)
French, Portuguese, Arabic or appropriate local language, French essential for West & Central Africa
Preferred:
Experience in an operational transmission and networking environment, including network elements and associated NMS operation/administration.
