My Family Work History The essential functions of a family include protection, economic support, procreation, housing clothing, socialization, and procreation. The heads of the family need to work to provide the best support to the family. My immediate family consists five individuals; my father, who is a business person; my mother, who works as an engineer; my brother and sister who are still both in school, and finally me. My siblings and I have been raised in both China and America. The history of my parents originates from Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, southeastern Guizhou in China. While growing up, it was on rare occasions that my siblings and I had time to visit my grandparents due to my parents tight work schedules that only allowed a little time for traveling. My father and mothers names are Ke Qiang and Da Chun. My mother works as an assistant manager at Lauren Engineers & Constructors Company. Her interest in joining the field came as a result of her parents influence on her. Both her parents were engineers based in Beijing. My mother was the biggest reason we migrated to the United States. In1994, Da Chun was lucky to land a job in Beijing as an engineer at China Engineering Company Limited. The company deals with energy project contracting and investments in electric and mining power industries. I say that she was lucky since the company was formed the same year. She worked for the company for ten years before she was offered a position as an assistant manager at Lauren Engineers and Constructors in the United States. Her job transfer to the United States created family issues that saw us migrate from China to the United States in the year 2004. My parents thought that it was best for the whole family to migrate to the U.S if we were to prosper. Though reluctant at first, my father came to see the situation as an opportunity to spread the Chinese culture within the United States. My mother has faced various challenges while working with the engineering companies. To begin with the work has been exhausting thus

leaving her little time to pursue other things. Consequently, she was severally posted in remote areas thus spending a little time with the family. Third and last is the fact that the profession is extremely complex, and thus she still has to learn it continually. She earns over $100,000 yearly. My father is a business person who owns a Chinese restaurant by the name Ke Chun Chinese restaurant in Louisiana. The restaurant serves Cajun-influenced dishes including crawfish and alligator. Flavorings are normally added to the crawfish and alligator thus creating an ultimate Louisiana-china cuisine. Growing up in his village, my father always wanted to own a restaurant. My father grew in an environment where integrity, respect, hospitality, friendliness, generosity, and humbleness were an essential part of life. The environment taught him that good people always gave back to the society for nurturing them. In 1991, my father started his career as a chef at a local restaurant in the village before moving to the United States in the year 2005 to open his own business. Unfortunately, his parents were involved in an accident that led to their death earlier that year thus they did not live to see his success. The local Chinese restaurant paid him 500$ a month, an amount that was a pretty good salary for a chef in their village. He has always been hard-working, so he had little problems at work. His focus for life was motivated by the fact that he came from a low-income family who struggled to raise him to the man he is at the moment. His vision and dreams were to make sure that his children would not struggle during their childhood as he did. My parents' love story started off at the same restaurant. The Ke Chun Chinese restaurant in Louisiana has had a lot of setbacks before becoming fully stable. My father started the business in the year 2004 with the Savings he had accumulated for the past 13 years which amounted to 276,550 USD at the time. The main challenges that the business has faced over the years are cultural and language barriers, the unpredictability of the market and the need to train staff.

Coincidentally, my grandparents, the parents of my mother worked as engineers before retiring from the profession. My grandparents Ke Qiang and Kue Ching retired to Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village during the early 2000s. They worked at the China Railway Construction Corporation Limited which from the 60s which was back then referred to as the railway arm of the People's Liberation Army. It was an extremely tough job, but my grandmother always had support from my father. The two worked at the same company hence the foundation of their love. The challenges that my grandparents faced were mostly environmental. First, they never had a permanent home since they moved a lot during that period. Second and last, some places that they worked, for example, the high altitude areas had low oxygen levels and were prone to diseases. My father came from a low-income family whose parents were Li Jiang, his father and Kuai Hua, his mother. Before their terrible car accident, Li Jiang worked as a security guard at the Chinese Petroleum Co-corporation. He had little education thus leaving him with the option of doing casual as well as manual labor jobs. He got the job in 1953 shortly after its formation in 1949. Kuai Hua was a housewife thus leaving Li Jiang as the sole breadwinner of the company. Life was extremely difficult as my grandparents wages were barely enough to sustain them let alone pay for my fathers school fees. At the beginning of his career, my grandfather earned 32$ a month. His loyalty to the company helped him gain more salary as the company grew. He also undertook part-time studies such that he was the head of security of the company by the time of his retirement. Li Jiang worked his whole life at the same factory (for 37 years) before retiring. He faced a lot of challenges at his workplace. He worked in harsh conditions for long hours earning minimum wage. Additionally, the workers company had restrictions on personal freedoms.

Both my grandparents and parents catered for their healthcare using their family income contributions. At the moment, I would place my familys social status at an elite upper class. The economic support provided by parents to their children is a show of great love and responsibility. I am grateful for my parents support as every other child should be to his parents. My familys work history is an inspiration for me to work harder so as to be able to cater for my family too.
