Basic Beliefs of Islam.

[3]
There are FIVE basic beliefs of Islam. In Islamic terminology, we call them Usul - e - Din. I.e.
fundamentals of Islam. Anyone who has slightest doubts in these basic beliefs, or accepts them
without understanding, is not a true Muslim. These basic principles of Islam are as
follows;

1. Tawheed
2. Adl
3. Nabwwat
4. Imamat
5. Qiyamat

Tawhid

Tawhid is the most basic principle of Islam.

Islam is the only religion which teaches a pure, perfect and unadulterated concept of
monotheism, and entertains no compromise with nationalism, racism, polytheism, trinitariasm,
saint-worship, idol worship or considering anyone in anyway equal to God or part of God.

The concept of Tawhid has two inseparable components.

1. Belief in the existence of God.

2. Belief in the absolute Oneness of God.

Meanings of Tawheed in Quran:

[4]
The Holy Quran has beautifully explained the meaning of Tawhid in Surah Al-Ikhlas which is
also known as Surah Tawhid;

Say: Allah is one, the eternal God. He begot none, nor was He begotten. None is equal to Him or
like Him. (1)

This surah precisely tells us that there is none comparable or equivalent to Him. In surah ash-
Shura, Quran tells the same fact in simple manner,

“Nothing is similar to Him”. (2)

Oneness of God:
Introduction.

Belief in Oneness of God mean that God is one and there is none like him. He has no partner, He
neither begets nor is He begotten. He is indivisible in person. He is eternal. He is Al-Mighty. The
All Knowing, the All Just, He has neither beginner nor end, the Cherisher of all worlds, the
Patron, the Guide, the Helper the Merciful and the Compassionate.

Quran also considers it a self-evident case.

(1) Al Quran, 112.

(2) Al Quran, 42:11.

“Their messengers said; Is there a doubt about Allah, the creator of the heavens and the earth. It
is He Who invites you, in order that He may forgive you and your sins and give you respite for a
term appointed” (1)

[5]
Quran further shakes the frozen minds:
“Is it not enough that your God is the proof of all things”?

Quran invites all researchers in their respective fields of specialization to ponder in the creations
of Allah in order to testify His existence and His Oneness.

“And your God is one : there is no god but He; He is the beneficent, the merciful. Most surely in
the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day, and the
ships that run in the sea with that which profit men, and the water that Allah sends down from
the clouds, then gives life with it to the earth after its death and spreads in it all kinds of animals,
and the changing of the winds and the clouds made subservient between the heavens and the
earth, there are signs for a people who understand”. (2)

The Quranic View of God:

The idea of God has had a chequered history. It is ingrained in the human nature. The Quranic
contention is that rthe very first vision which man had of God was God’s oneness or unity. The
peculiarity of Quran is that it lifts the veils of anthropomorphic similitude’s from across the
vision of God and allows us to take a transcendental view of Him in His attributer.

(1) Al Quran, 14:10.

(2) Al Quran, 2:163-164

Nought is there like Him. (1)

No vision taketh Him in, But He taketh in all vision. (2)
Say: He is God, the One only God, on whom all depend ! He begetteth not, nor He
[6]
begotten, And there is none like Him. (3)

The Quranic concept of unity of God is definite, and has both positive and negative side to it.
The positive side is that God is one and only one. The negative side is that there is like Him. And
when there is nine like Him it follows that whatever attributes that might be assigned to God
cannot be assigned at the same time any other.
The Quran assert that God alone is the worthy of worship. If you turn any other in devotion you
ease to be a believer in the Unity of god. It says that He is who answers the cry of man and fulfils
his prayers. So if you associate any other with Him in your prayers you simply associate that
other in divinity or attributes also God. Indeed your belief itself in the unity of God gets tainted.
The Quran bases its concept of God on the inherent universal urges of human nature. It has not
made of this concept a riddle which only a special class of intellect alone can solve. Anything
over and above this which it deals with does not enter into the doctrinal belief. All that is left to
be thought over by man individually or to be experienced personally.

And whoso make efforts for us, in our ways will we guide them. (4)

On Earth are signs for men of firm belief, and also in your own selves:
Will ye not then behold them? (5)

Describing God
One of the shortest chapters of the Qur'an, "The Oneness of God" (1), summarizes the nature of
God in five verses:
1.In the name of Allah, the most Gracious, the Most Merciful

[7]
2.Say, He is Allah, the One
3.Allah, the Eternal
4.He begets not, nor was He begotten
5.And there is nothing at all comparable to Him

The most fundamental Islamic teachings about God are contained in these verses, i.e. that there is
only one God Who is eternal, unique, and has no blood relation to any human beings. Different
prophets also gave their own descriptions of God which are also related in the Qur'an.
Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) says:

"My Lord is He Who gives life and causes death." (2)

After him, Moses (peace be upon him), when confronting the Pharaoh, says:

"Our Lord is He Who gave each thing its form and nature then guided it aright." (3)
These two verses both describe Allah in His relation to human beings, but of course Allah's
being extends far beyond His relation to mankind.
Allah expresses His own eternity and perpetuity Himself:

"Every thing on earth shall perish, but the face of Allah will remain, full of majesty and
honor ." (4)

Where is Allah?

The verses of the Qur'an.

[8]
It is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days and then He mounted the throne [of control]"

We created man and We [even] know the promptings of his mind. We are closer to him than his life vein

It was Him Who made the heavens and the earth in six days, and [at that time] His throne [of control] was
on the waters

He decides all affairs from the heavens to the earth; then these [affairs] go [back] up to Him in a day, the
length of which is a thousand years of your reckoning.

The angels and the ruh ascend up to Him in a day the length of which is fifty thousand years

One Creator or Many?

The first point that should be kept in mind is that the Qur'an does not say that no one else, besides God,

[9]
can 'create' anything. We know that man creates pictures; he creates designs; he has created boats and
ships; he has created airplanes; he has created computers and so on. The list of man's creations can be
quite a lengthy one indeed. Although man's ability to create, itself, is in turn, one of God's creations and
can thus be attributed to God, yet even so, because all these things ultimately come into existence through
man, therefore, it would not be incorrect to say that man created all these things utilizing the abilities that
God had bestowed upon him.

The second point that should be kept in mind is that barring all those things, which is obviously created
by man, every thing in the heavens and the earth was created by God alone. In other words, according to
the Qur'an, the heavens and the earth and all that naturally exists between them is created by God alone.

“God is the creator of everything and He is the protector over everything. His are the keys to everything
in the heavens and the earth [controlling everything] and [, therefore,] those, who reject God's signs, they
indeed are going to be the losers. Ask [them]: 'Do you still direct me to worship others besides God, you
ignorant ones?” (1)

It is quite clear from the above verses that the point of stress, as stated earlier, is the fact that when no one
besides God is either the creator or the controller of all that exists between the heavens and the earth, then
why should anyone believes in other Gods? 'Everything' in this context does not refers to things, which
have obviously been fabricated, developed, assembled or created by human beings, but refers only to such
things, the creation of which is ascribed to gods.

Thus, in the referred verse as well as in other related verses, the Qur'an has not negated the creator in
man, but has only made the point that the heavens, the earth, the laws, which govern them and all the
natural phenomena is the creation of the One God only.

CONCLUSION
[10]
First of all I want to thank Allah that He born me a Muslim. So if we are Muslims, then
there is one religion for us and it is Islam. Now if there is one Religion for us, then there must be
some rules or some duties for us? Yes, there are and these are the beliefs of Islam. The most
important belief of Islam is Tawheed or Oneness of Allah. If we don’t believe this belief or any
other than we are not Muslims.

The topic “Oneness of God” also refers that there is only one God and He is Allah. He is
the most Gracious and Powerful. He is the creator of every thing. So now it is our duty that we
also believe that there is only one God and He is Allah. We ask for help only from Him and
prostrate before Him only.

We all know that Allah is every where and He know all about us , what we had done and
what we are going to do. So we should try our best to avoid evil deeds and also try to stop the
others, if we believe in Allah and want to gain His blessings. We must recite Quran daily and
also offer prayers to meet his Allah five times a day.
