Update Tool Introduction

The Update Tool is used to upgrade software for the SONET series products of
Huawei Co., LTD. Its intelligent characteristics allow loading boards of more than one
station if required. The tool supports the following functions:

Query the actual status of NE to judge the board type of each slot.

Adjust the downloaded software as required.

Analyze the current version of an NE and upgrade the software that is

different with the software package, reducing influence upon activating
network after upgrade.

Support rollback function, and the user can choose the time point to be
rolled back.

Activate a certain board or all boards of an NE at the same time, and

activate the board (by cold reset or warm reset) according to its loaded
software.

Record the LOG file during the upgrade to control the upgrade process.

This tool simplifies the upgrade process significantly. The operating personnel only
needs to input the IP address of the NE to be upgraded and select the software package
to be loaded; the procedure will load the software to the equipment and activate the new
software as required.
System require:
Windows 2000/XP, the hard disk which the tool live in has over 100M free space

Caution:

The version of UpdateTool can be used to upgrade NE between

Metro1600R1B2C3 and Metro1600R1B2C3SP2/C3SP3/C4/C4SP1, or
Metro800R1B1C3/C3SP1 and Metro800R1B1C3SP2/C3SP3/C4/C4SP1.
Because of the compatibility issue between C3/C3SP1 and
C3SP2/C3SP3/C4/C4SP1, Repeating upgrade and downgrade maybe cause the
NE rebooting continuously if a specifically file isnt deleted. The version of the
UpdateTool is different from the before:
1. Automatically delete the file which will cause the NE rebooting after upgrade. It
doesnt effect the traffic.
2, Warm reboot all cards after upgrade. Because no FPGA is changed, only warm

rebooting is needed.

Update Tool Constitution

product. It can be started by selecting DownLoad /SONET Update Tool menu from the

each board and the edition information of the software package.
