A LESSON PLAN USING WHOLE BRAIN TEACHING

Title: PARTS & FUNCTIONS OF A SYSTEM UNIT

1. Define System Unit.
2. Identify the parts of a system unit and their functions.
3. Determine how the different parts work together as a system.

Step 1: QUESTIONS
1. What is a system unit?
2. What are the different parts of the system unit and how will they function?

Step 2: Answer
1. System unit is a box-like case housing the electronic components of a
computer that are used to process data to become useful information.
2. We have 15 parts of the System Unit- Motherboard, Processor , Processor socket,
Heat sink , memory slot, Power Connector, Sound card, (S-ATA),Capacitors
,Capacitors, PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect), AGP (Accelerated Graphics
Port), PS/2 connector , Network Adapter , USB Ports , Audio ports.

Step 3: Expand
Class, of the 15 parts of the system unit, the first and one of the most important
part is the, Motherboard- is the underlying circuit board of a computer. It is where the
different components are being house. (Mirror me please- TEACH-OK)
Next part is the Processor this is a silicon chip that contains a CPU and is
responsible for processing of data, doing arithmetic and logic operations. It is the most
expensive parts of the system unit. Processor is being house at the Processor socket is an electrical component that attaches to the motherboard and is designed to house
a CPU (also called a microprocessor). (TEACH-OK)
What if the processor will over heat? What part is responsible to cool down the
processor? Anybody? YES? Heat sink - is an environment or object that absorbs and
dissipates heat from another object using thermal contact.
Who will give the part? Yes? Memory slot It is commonly refers to the slot
computer memory is placed into on the computer motherboard. Very good, your system
unit can accommodate 2 or more memories depending upon the manufacturer.
Next part is the Power Connector - is an electrical connector designed to carry a
significant amount of electrical power, usually as DC or low-frequency AC. Sound card is a device that handles data-to-audio and audio-to-data translations, enabling a
computer to play sound on speakers or to record sound from an external device, like a
microphone. (Mirror me please- TEACH- OK)

Step 4: Test

1. What part is responsible for the processing of data?

2. Will mother board house/handle other component?
3. What part is considered as a cooler of the processor?
4. Can capacitors store current?
5. Can power supply convert AC power to DC ppower?
QUICK TEST: Show the drawings of the different parts and students will
individually identify

STEP 5: Critical thinking

A) Above Average Group:
Why do we consider system unit as a SYSTEM? How will the different part work
together in order to attain the systems goal?
B) Average Group:
Enumerate the parts of the system unit and give their function.
C) Below Average:
Tell the opening of the graph of each quadratic function.
