I'm writing a story about a plea yesterday in Derby court involving Maurice Beall, who was
arrested Feb, 2, 2Al4 after being shot by an Ansonia police officer during a physical
confrontation.

Mr. Beall's lawyer said the state police conducted (and completed)

The case referenced in your request for file, 16-267 is a Police involved shooting. This case was investigated by Trooper
Rachael Van Ness #1431 and supervised by Sergeant Joshua Pattberg #130 both of Centrai District Major Crime, This
case was investigated under 1400065455 as a Use of Force Case. Normal course of action in a case involving a Use of
Force incident with another Department is a Use of force report is completed by that deparinrent. ln this case the
Officer involved is from the Ansonia Police Department. Therefore the Ansonia Police Department Use of Force policy
would be referenced and the Ansonia Police Department would complete a Use of Force report for this incident, Our
agency would conduct the Criminal {nvestigation and submit the results of the investigation to the local States
Attorney's office and those reports would be held in our Reports and Records section.

lf our agency conducted a Use of Force report for this incident it would be recorded in NEXGTN and the hard copy report
would be held in a file located at the offices of lnternal Affairs, I checked the NEXGEN records of reports for 1400065455
and no Use of Force report was created for this incident. I also hand searched all of the Use of Force reports for 2014
held at our office and one has not been filed for Maurice Beall.
