Langston Hughes, The Big Sea: An Auto Biography Langston encountered with double
consciousness many times, Langston Hughes writes about the years of 1920s he says these were
the days of Manhattans Black Renaissance, White people were arriving to Harlem in form of
groups. They were not affable to Negroes unless you are a famous person therefor the Negros

dont like their coming to Harlem. They were seeing the Negroes like animal of zoo. Once these
White people not allowed Negros in their clubs, this time Negroes were not willing to allow
them in their clubs. It was a time of high discrimination Blacks were not allowed to appear at
clubs while the presence of whites was considered a fortune. It was a time when the white
authors were more successful in writing about the condition of Negroes than the Black authors.
He says at that time the books of Negro authors were sold with much more frequency than White
authors.
At that time he reconsidered his African heritage with a European upbringing in education and

Comparison of Call and Post with The Afro American Newspaper: The Afro American
newspaper is a Baltimore, Maryland based newspaper founded in 1892. It publishes on weekly

basis; it was founded by John H. Murphy when he merged his church publication. In the 1930s
The Afro-American started a powerful campaign known as "The Clean Block" campaign, people
believe that it is still in existence today. The campaign formed into an annual event and was
planned for improving the appearance of, and lowering crime rate in, inner-city neighborhoods.
The Afro-American also started campaign against the Southern Railroad's use of Jim Crow cars,
and fought to get equal pay for Maryland's black schoolteachers. During World War II, The AfroAmerican stationed many of its reporters in Europe, the Aleutians, Africa, Japan, and other parts
