Chapter 1
Overview

Documentum D2 is a web-based application that enables users to store, retrieve, and manage
documents in a Documentum repository. It is highly customizable through a configuration
application that does not require programming knowledge.
Documentum D2 consists of the following components:
D2 Configuration: The configuration application that enables you to configure settings for
security, workflows, document classification, and the client user interface.
D2 Client: The main application that is used to interact with documents in the repository.
D2 plug-ins can be used to add interoperability with other Documentum applications. Plug-in
compatibility, page 22 contains a list of supported plug-ins.

Chapter 4
Installation and Upgrade

The instructions for installing the product are provided in the EMC Documentum D2 Version 4.2
Installation Guide. To upgrade D2, install the new D2 version over the old one.
Caution: If you have custom methods, jobs, or plug-ins that call D2 classes using eu.c6, before
upgrading you need to update those objects and use com.emc. D2 Release Compatibility,
page 35 describes this limitation.
Ensure that your system meets the requirements listed in Chapter 3, System Requirements before
installing the software. EMC recommends updating your software to the latest patch version.

Workspaces Created in D2 4.1

You must update workspaces created in D2 4.1 with widgets in containers without tabbed navigation
because widget navigation was changed in D2 4.2. Update workspaces in D2 Config to move widgets
you do not want affected by untabbed containers to tabbed containers.

Enabling Quick Publishing on D2 4.2 when

Advanced Publishing Services is installed
Copy the P2-API.jar and P2-Plugin.jar output by the Advanced Publishing Services installer
to the D2 Client 4.2 ../D2/WEB-INF/lib/ folder.
The EMC Documentum D2 Advanced Publishing Services 3.1 SP1 Installation Guide contains further
information about the Advanced Publishing Services installation.

Issue Number

Description

DTWO-9941

D2 does not check whether the date is valid

when you submit changes to a property page.

DTWO-7899

C# proxy code generated from D2FS.wsdl

using svcutil.exe or the Add service
reference command from Microsoft Visual

P08 throws DFC_CONT_CANT_ACCESS_FILE
- Cannot access file in local cache area.

DTWO-7418

When document has VERSION permission, it

uses dmadmin rather than current user to unlock
the document causing dm_unlock notification
sent out when cancel checkout the document.

DTWO-6545

Email notification doesnt resolve $value when

2 tasks are running simultaneously in one
workflow.

DTWO-6343

C2 & PDF-API dont respect view mode, page

layout, metadata, version and attachment of the
pdf source.

DTWO-6310

Worklow notes wildcards not managed

correctly.

DTWO-6274

MassUpdate fails if you try to update more than

120 documents.

DTWO-6206

Unexpected behavior when using Edit with

31

Fixed Issues

Issue Number

Description

DTWO-6196

D2JobDelegation crashes if any undo delegating

task fails.

DTWO-6005

The D2 (re)Loading tab in the D2 Config

Monitoring page does not list Cache URLs.

DTWO-6000

The Menu editor does not detect changes to

parameters that are generic actions or do not
require input, and keeps the Save button
disabled.

DTWO-5961

Tasks exported to excel miss custom columns

data.

DTWO-5939

D2FS4DCTM-API.jar is builded with a wrong

dfs-client.xml.

DTWO-5836

You cannot assign a workflow task to a user who

is not part of a group listed under the workflow
recipients.

DTWO-5822

$repeatingvalue is failing the whole query if the

repeating attribute does not have any value.

DTWO-5821

Using $repeatingvalue in a DQL query on a

property without a value causes the query to fail.

DTWO-5807

If two tasks for the same content are assigned to

the same person, extra columns of the Task list
widget show incorrect attributes.

DTWO-4674

Saving the binding version value for a virtual

document template for the first time fails.

Installation and Upgrade

Issue Number

Description

DTWO-5546

If you upgrade Documentum Content Server,

you must run the D2 Core installer to redeploy
D2-API libraries to the Content Server, the
Java Method Server, and if installed, the
Documentum Process Engine.

DTWO-5273

There are memory leak issues and slow

advanced search response times when you use
Documentum Content Server 7.0.
Workaround: Apply Documentum Content
Server 7.0 P01.

33

Known Issues

Thin Client Mode

Issue Number

Description

DTWO-9992

An intelligent URL configured with a content

transfer action in the commandEvent parameter
does not work. For example:
commandEvent=D2_ACTION_CONTENT
_CHECKOUT,D2_ACTION_CONTENT
_CHECKIN,D2_ACTION_CONTENT_VIEW,D2
_ACTION_CONTENT_EDIT

DTWO-9593

D2 Client names exported files

DfQueryToExcel.xls instead of allowing
renaming when D2 is set to thin client mode.

DTWO-9514

You cannot compress files in thin client mode

when downloading directly from an ACS or
BOCS server.

DTWO-8090

D2 disables and hides the folder import menu

option when D2 is set to thin client mode. If you
drag and drop folders to D2 Client, the behavior
changes depending on the web browser being
used:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 10: D2 does not
import anything.
Google Chrome: D2 imports files and ignores
folders.
Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari: These
browsers do not provide a reliable method
of determining whether an item is a file or
a folder due to their implementation of the
HTML5 File object. D2 attempts to import
files and ignore folders by considering items
that have zero length or have no file extension
as folders.

DTWO-8044

When an end user tries to view a document

using a PDF view configuration, D2 sends and
processes a PDF rendition request and then
shows the output PDF document.
If D2 is set to Java applet mode, D2 Client
shows the warning message A PDF file
control request has been launched.
Please renew your operation in a
few moments to alert users to the process.

34

Known Issues

Issue Number

Description
If D2 is set to thin client mode, D2 Client
shows the error message Download failed:
Errors occurred trying to download
file from the following hosts: which
is misleading to end users.

DTWO-6894

D2 Client does not show the edit content step

during content import when D2 is set to thin
client mode.

DTWO-6892

D2 does not compress files during upload when

D2 is set to thin client mode because browsers
do not support this functionality.

DTWO-6890

Folder structure import does not work when D2

is set to thin client mode.

DTWO-6458

Downloading multiple files with Microsoft

Internet Explorer 10 or later fails when D2 is set
to thin client mode.

DTWOPLG-560

If D2 is set to thin client mode and O2 is installed

and configured, file transfer uses D2-BOCS even
when the file size is smaller than the value set
for the minFileSizeForBocs parameter in
D2FS.properties.

D2 Release Compatibility
Issue Number

Description

DTWO-10730

D2 3.1 SP1 cannot be used with a D2 4.2

repository.

DTWO-6050

D2 4.0 and 4.2 cannot co-exist on the same

application server due to the change in the
domain name used to identify D2 packages
from eu.c6 to com.emc. As a result, D2 4.0
plug-ins will not work until compatible versions
are available and updated into the repository. If
you have custom methods, jobs, or plug-ins that
call D2 classes, you must update the domain
names used from eu.c6 to com.emc.

DTWO-6043

D2 3.1 and 4.2 cannot co-exist on the same

application server due to the change in the
domain name used to identify D2 packages
from eu.c6 to com.emc. As a result, D2 3.1
plug-ins will not work until compatible versions
are available and updated into the repository. If

D2 Config
Issue Number

Description

DTWO-14021

If Single Sign On (SSO) is enabled then it does

not allow users to toggle or update the Restore
session check box present in the Login dialog
box.

DTWO-10645

D2 ignores underscores in dictionary names

when creating a registered table. For example,
if you create a registered table using the
name holiday_list, D2 recognizes it as
holidaylist.

DTWO-10532

You cannot export and import the Skip edit

content step option for creation profile
configurations.

DTWO-10161

D2 Client does not request an electronic

signature when an end user performs a mass
update even if you have configured it in D2
Config.

DTWO-10091

If you add and enable the owner_permit

property to a property page and set it to be
visible only in property edit mode, D2 shows
a number format exception when an end user
attempts to import or create content that uses
that property page.

DTWO-10088

Repeating date properties are not inherited

when you add the repeating date to a grid in
a property page and add to the inheritance
configuration.

DTWO-10024

You cannot configure the style and icon of

boolean properties.

DTWO-9937

When an end user creates or imports content

with property inheritance and the source content
does not have a value for a property found
in the default value template, the D2 Client
property page shows the property as a literal
string instead of a blank.

36

Known Issues

Issue Number

Description

DTWO-9778

If you create a mass update configuration

using a property page with Do not link to
property selected, D2 Client shows an error
when an end user tries to use the mass update.

DTWO-8937

D2 Config does not recognize dictionary key

values pasted from the clipboard.
Workaround: Type the value.

DTWO-8840

If you import an image for the first time, the logo

listbox shows the image multiple times.
Workaround: Reload the configuration page.

DTWO-8608

D2 types Microsoft Office 2013 documents

imported to the template list as Microsoft Office
2007/2010 documents because Documentum
Content Server does not have a separate format
type for Microsoft Office 2013.
Workaround: Use Documentum Administrator,
DQL, or IAPI to add Microsoft Office 2013 as a
format type to the Content Server.

DTWO-5933

D2 shows a notification error if you click on a

row of an alias that has a space in its name, such
as Alias One.
Workaround: Use an underscore instead of a
space.

DTWO-5242

The methods fail when executed in an activity

within a workflow.
Workaround: Use only Business Process
Management methods for promoting, demoting,
or attaching lifecycles to workflows. Verify
other methods before you make them available
to automated processes.

DTWO-4609

D2 Client does not focus on a combo field even

if you configure a combo field to be the initial
focus when the property page is opened.

DTWO-4158

When configuring a mass metadata update,

there is no validation for the Display if user in
the group field upon clicking the Save button.

37

Known Issues

There is not a scrollbar for the D2 3.1 Theme

configuration page.
Workaround: Maximize the browser window.

D2 Client

and earlier displays a NoSuchMethodError
message.
Workaround: Use D2 6.7 SP1 and later versions.

DTWO-10780

The Export to Excel option does not work on a

Mac operating system.

DTWO-10461

If you restore a virtual document snapshot from

the recycle bin, D2 does not keep the virtual
document children and loses the name of the
parent document.

DTWO-10451

If you upgraded D2 4.1 to 4.2, D2 Client shows

an error message when you save an advanced
search, but it saves the search as expected.

DTWO-10386

You cannot copy and paste content in the Search

results list.

DTWO-10369

If you add a column to the Virtual Document

widget, the widget does not show child
documents.
Workaround: Refresh the widget.

DTWO-10342

If you double-click an empty virtual document,

D2 shows the D2 Downloader dialog box.

DTWO-10264

D2 shows the date field format on the Advanced

Search widget in mm/dd/yy format instead of
the format set in the D2 Client Preferences.

DTWO-10153

You cannot use workflows that were created

using Documentum xCP and contain business
events and triggers.

38

Known Issues

Issue Number

Description

of delegated tasks.
Workaround: View the task in the Task details
widget.

DTWO-9933

If you have a taxonomy widget or dictionary

widget visible on the workspace at the same time
as a property widget, D2 shows an unresponsive
script error message when you attempt to select
an item in a large taxonomy or dictionary.
Workaround: Do not have a property page
visible on the workspace when selecting an item
in a large dictionary or taxonomy.

DTWO-9931

The Paste as Link button in the context

menu for the Favorites widget contains is not
disabled.

DTWO-9852

If an administrator uses Documentum

Administrator to create a folder structure under
a folder, the Repository browser widget does
not show the collapsed folder tree icon. For
example, if an administrator creates the folder
Child A in Folder A using Documentum
Administrator, the Repository browser widget
does not show the icon next to Folder A even
if you refresh the widget.
Workaround: Create a folder using D2 Client in
the parent folder. For example, if you create the
folder Child B inside Folder A, D2 shows
the collapsed folder icon next to Folder A.

DTWO-9717

If you perform a search using content size as a

facet and group the search results by content
size, D2 misses some files during grouping.

39

Known Issues

Issue Number

Description

DTWO-9535

Performing an advanced search on a date stored

in a repeating property causes D2 to throw a
syntax error.

DTWO-9508

If you perform a search in the Query form

widget using the r_version_label property,
the search result returns duplicate items.

DTWO-9218

Restoring a cabinet from the recycle bin does not

restore the cabinet to its original location.
Workaround: D2-Bin restores the cabinet in the
cabinet of the current user. Move the restored
cabinet to is original location.

DTWO-9212

D2 does not show a scroll bar when a property

page is bigger than the dialog box.
Workaround: Use property page tabs to break
the property page into smaller pieces.

DTWO-9110

When you select a virtual document child

component, the Location widget shows the
ObjectID of the virtual document parent
instead of the folder path.

DTWO-8739

When downloading a file using Apple Mac OS,

the Choose Folder dialog box does not show
the Cancel and Show folder buttons.
Workaround: Increase the size of the dialog box
to show the buttons.

DTWO-8718

add a column to the Doclist widget.
Workaround: Refresh the Doclist widget by
clicking a folder or cabinet in the Browser
widget.

DTWO-8508

The Groups widget does not show a notification

when it reaches the maximum number of results
set in D2FS.properties.

DTWO-7362

The comparison feature in D2 4.2 does not

output a split-screen document comparing
content the way it did in D2 3.1 and outputs a
merged comparison instead.

DTWO-6801

Visibility conditions for property page grid

elements do not work.

40

Known Issues

Issue Number

Description

DTWO-6012

The parent virtual document disappears from

the Virtual Document widget after converting a
child virtual document to a normal document.
Workaround: Manually refresh the Virtual
Document widget.

DTWO-5865

When you use the Export to Excel action

running checkbox is not selected.
Workaround: Open the advanced search in the
advanced search dialog and click Run. The
issue occurs when running the search from the
Searches widget context menu.

DTWO-5667

Content properties may not be shown if you

send content to a distribution multiple times
during preparation.

DTWO-5568

Testing using a round-trip latency of 300 ms

resulted in loading the D2 start page with
cache to take longer than 4 seconds in a WAN
condition.

DTWO-5566

Testing using a round-trip latency of 300 ms

resulted in a check-out for a 40 KB file to take

DTWO-10126

PDF renditions do not correctly show transferred

O2 properties.

DTWO-10093

If you attempt change the properties of content

with a retention or markup policy as a user
with the DELETE permission level, D2 does not
prevent you from changing the properties even
if it shows an error message. You do not see the
error message depending on O2 configurations
and whether you added advanced properties to
the content in Microsoft Office:
If an O2 configuration is active and the file
contains advanced properties, D2 Client

Communication between Documentum Content

Server and D2-BOCS causes high overhead
under WAN conditions for file transfer
regardless of file size.
If you are not applying C2 or O2 to the
document, you should use D2-BOCS for file
download and can further tune performance
by configuring minFileSizeForBocs in
D2FS.properties and by configuring
compression using D2-BOCS.
You should not use D2-BOCS for file upload
unless you upload large documents with
or without C2 or O2 configurations. Your
network conditions determine the file size at
which using D2-BOCS for upload results in
better performance than when using D2. You
can further tune performance by configuring
compression using D2-BOCS.
The EMC Documentum D2 4.2 Installation Guide
contains further information and instructions
for configuring D2-BOCS.

Labels for a tabbed property page show the

control ID instead of the configured label
because D2 does not correctly fall back
on English values if the browser locale is
non-English.
Workaround: Add the labels you want shown
in the tabbed property page to the expected
language.

DTWO-5765

Sencha library causes customers who set their

browser language to Arabic or Swedish to see
a partially-localized D2 UI due to the Sencha
runtime UI strings.

DTWO-5222

Documentum Foundation Class error messages

Description

DTWO-16222

When you open a property page and select the

text in the Read only control and press CTRL+C,
you cannot close the property page.
This occurs in Internet Explorer 9.

DTWO-9970

Due to a third-party issue with Microsoft

Internet Explorer, if you close a dialog using
either the OK or Cancel buttons while focus is
on a rich text editor, you can no longer select
input fields in widgets.

DTWO-9927

Due to a third-party issue with Google Chrome,

the DEL and Ctrl + C keyboard shortcuts do
not work in the Favorites widget.

DTWO-8618

Due to a third-party issue with Microsoft

Internet Explorer and Google Chrome, D2 shows
Java applet and Adobe Flash components in
external widgets on top of D2 Client components
such as dialog boxes.

DTWO-8460

D2 Client disables the PDFViewer widget

when using Mozilla Firefox 19 or later because
the browser ignores PDF permissions such as
PRINT and COPY.

DTWO-8434

Due to a third-party issue with Kerberos,

refreshcache does not work out of the box.
Workaround:
1.

Navigate to <path to web

application server>/webapps
/D2/WEB-INF/classes/ and open
shiro.ini in a text editor.

2.

Add the line /**/serverlet

/RefreshCache = anon before
/** = X3-Kerberos. The authentication
type section should contain the two lines in
the following order:
/**/serverlet/RefreshCache =
anon
/** = X3-Kerberos

Known Issues

Issue Number

Description

DTWO-7998

If you log in using a load balancer URL in

SSL and click a Brave ActiveX Viewer Wizard
hyperlink, D2 shows the Error: Invalid
or Expired User Session error.

DTWO-7309

Due to a third-party issue with Microsoft

Internet Explorer, the following issues occur
when using the PDFViewer widget:
Changing the widget to fullscreen mode and
back causes the PDF to stay on the screen.
The widget menu is hidden when the widget
shows the PDF.
The widget overlaps with other windows
such as the Options or Import dialog boxes.
Workaround: You can fix the overlap by
selecting a different widget.

DTWO-6458

Downloading multiple files with Microsoft

Internet Explorer 10 or later fails when D2 is set
to thin client mode.

DTWO-5966

Compatibility between Kerberos and IBM

WebSphere is not supported.

DTWO-5925

When you enable Kerberos SSO and deploy

D2 with a WDK application that has a user
source associated to an LDAP D2 shows a user
authentication error.
Workaround: Manually update the user source
of the user accounts as an inline password, then
set the password.

DTWO-5334

When NTLM Single Sign-On (SSO) is enabled

and a user accesses D2 for the first time,
application Server logs show the error
messageorg.xml.sax.SAXParseException.

Changing the text highlight color in the

Comment widget editor does not work
for Internet Explorer 9. The Sencha forum
(http://www.sencha.com/forum/) contains more
information on this third-party issue.

DTWOPLG-448

Due to a third-party issue with JBoss 7.1.1,

third-party logging frameworks such as
Logback do not function without disabling
the server logging subsystem. As a result,
Documentum Content Server 7.1 does not
generate D2-JMS.log and D2-BOCS.log.
Workaround: DTWOPLG-448, page 48 contains
workaround instructions.

Extended Workaround Information

DTWOPLG-448
For D2-JMS.log:
1.

Navigate to <install path of Documentum>\<JBoss version>\server\DctmServer

_MethodServer\deployments\ServerApps.ear\META-INF\

2.

Open jboss-deployment-structure.xml and add the following lines under the

<exclusions> tag:
<module name="org.slf4j" />
<module name="org.slf4j.impl" />
<module name="org.hibernate" />

For D2-BOCS.log on the BOCS server:

1.

Navigate to <install path of Documentum>\<JBoss version>\server\DctmServer

_BOCS\deployments\D2-BOCS.war\WEB-INF\

2.

Create a file and save it as jboss-deployment-structure.xml. The content of the file

should be as follows:
<jboss-deployment-structure>

48

Known Issues

<deployment>
<!-- Exclusions allow you to prevent the server from automatically
adding some depdenencies -->
<exclusions>
<module name="org.slf4j" />
<module name="org.slf4j.impl" />
<module name="org.hibernate" />
</exclusions>
</deployment>
</jboss-deployment-structure>
For D2-BOCS.log on the ACS server:
1.

Navigate to <install path of Documentum>\<JBoss version>\server\DctmServer

_MethodServer\deployments\acs.ear\META-INF\

2.

Open jboss-deployment-structure.xml and add the following lines:

<sub-deployment name="D2-BOCS.war">
<exclusions>
<module name="org.apache.log4j" />
<module name="org.slf4j" />
<module name="org.slf4j.impl" />
<module name="org.hibernate" />
</exclusions>
</sub-deployment>

After implementing the workaround, Documentum Content Server writes the logging information
in the JBoss server.log.
