THE MYSTERY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY

The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is one of the most profound mysteries of our faith. This
is so because it concerns the very nature of God. While we dont claim to understand the
mysteries of our holy religion, there are many analogies to them. Western theologians, since the
time of St. Augustine, have demonstrated that there is no contradiction between reason and
revelation. For those who desire some reasoned analysis, here are the statements of these noted
theologians: 1)As the trunk, the leaves, and the branches go to make up ONE TREE; 2)as the
three angles of a triangle go to make up ONE TRIANGLE; 3)as the direction, brightness and
heat of the sun go to make up ONE SUN; 4)as the length, width, and height of the room make
up but ONE ROOM; 5)as water, ice, and steam are the three manifestations of ONE
SUBSTANCE; 6)as movement, limpidity (still & clear), and fluidity of water do not make up
three rivers, but ONLY ONE; 7)as the form, color, and perfume of the rose do not make up three
roses, but ONLY ONE; 8)as our soul, our intellect, and our will do not make up three persons,
but ONLY ONE; 9)as one times one times one equal one and not three..so, too, in some
divinely more mysterious way, there are Three Persons in one God and yet only ONE GOD
THE MOST HOLY TRINITY.
Fr. John Reinkemeyer said it this way: Today, the Church reminds us that there are two other
Divine Persons in the Trinitythe Father, the Son, as well as the Holy Spirit. A great mystery, but
one that is astounding beyond words. From all eternity, the Father begets the Son; from all
eternity, the Son (the Word) is born of the Father. From all eternity, the Father and the Son
breathe forth the Holy Spirit; from all eternity, the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father through
the Son. The triune God is beyond and outside of time, yet the Son was born IN TIME without
which we would not have been redeemed. Thank God for the gift of faith you have
received. (My family and I thank God, but also Fr. Joseph Gorentz and Fr. Reinkemeyer who
were instrumental in our becoming Catholics)
Fr. William Carr, a retired priest of our diocese, says it another way: It is a total mystery; it is
beyond our limited minds to understand. Legend has it that St. Augustine was meditating on the
mystery of the Trinity as he walked on a beach. He saw a child with a sea shell, dipping water
from the ocean and pouring it into a small hole in the sand. The child said, Im going to put the
whole ocean into this hole. St. Augustine replied, But that is impossible. likewise, the child
said, it is much like the Trinityhard to understand. Therefore, we should be content with the
simplicity of our faith and seek not to inquire into that which God wished to remain hidden.
Did you know that the word Trinity was first used by the theologian, Tertullian, one of the
early Fathers of the Church around 180 A.D.? Before that time, theologians struggled to find a
way to describe the three persons in one God. We can comprehend how difficult it was for the
early teachers to make the Trinity acceptable, mainly due to a lack of available terms that the
many nationalities could believe. Be grateful for your Catholic faith and pray for those who do not
believe these truths.

TOTUS TUUS: JULY 10-15

Please mark your calendars for a fun & energetic week at St.
Michaels parish hall to participate in Totus Tuus - a parish
based summer catechetical program for youth, dedicated to
sharing the Gospel and promoting our faith through
evangelization, catechesis, Marian devotion & fun! The
program is led by college students and seminarians, teaching
and inspiring youth in participating parishes throughout the
diocese. Totus Tuus, a Latin phrase meaning totally yours,
was the motto of St. John Paul II and signifies our desire to
give ourselves entirely to Jesus Christ through Mary. This is a
FREE program, each family is asked to bring a bag of cookies
the first day of the program. Children in grades 1-5 meet
Monday-Friday from 9-3 and youth grades 6-12 meet SundayThursday in the evenings. Enrollment forms will be available
in the back of the church. All are invited to attend the potluck
dinner on Wednesday. Parishioners are needed for dinner
hosts and provide lunch for the team each day.

MEMORIAL DAY MASS

CATECHISTS NEEDED
Are you being called? Our PSR program is in need of
catechists for our Sunday morning and Wednesday evening
programs beginning next fall. Please prayerfully consider
assisting in this important parish ministry!

PSR NEWS
Our last PSR & CYM gathering of the year are complete. We
thank all our catechists and youth ministry volunteers for their
awesome contribution of time and talent to our Religious
Education program. With you, we can fulfill the mission of
the church to teach the faith to the children and help support
the parents as they hand on the faith to their families. Being a
catechist is demanding. The time and energy it takes to be a
good catechist is great, but the rewards are many. In some
ways, you each take on the role of the Sower from the Parable

There will be a 9:30am mass on Memorial Day, May 30, at St.

Aloysius Cemetery.

PRAYERS FOR OUR PARISHIONERS

Please pray for parishioners Herman Masser, Thurma Masser,

Rosemary OToole, Tom Weston, and Judy Widner who are ill
or in need of prayers.

VISITING PRIEST

Fr. Lanzrath is our visiting priest this weekend. Please make

him feel welcome, and thank him for being here and for his
pastoral care of our parishes during this time!

ST. PEREGRINE ITEMS AVAILABLE

St. Peregrine cards, medals and tokens are available free of
