undertakenatTorontoPearson.Thiscouldbeatenant,airline,landlord,orother
agency.

Ensure that design is in line with this document and other buildingspecific core drilling guidelines. Refer to reference documents for more
information.
Ensure that General Contractor is aware of these guidelines and
follows accordingly.
Attend on-site safety review meeting with Contractor and TRH group
prior to core drill.
Attend all core drills to ensure that safety procedures are being
followed as discussed at on-site safety meeting.
Arrange scanning of all proposed slab penetrations.
Arrange for review of located obstructions and reinforcement layout by
designated structural engineer prior to drilling or cutting.
Arrange on-site safety review with the TRH Group and a
representative of the Project Owner 24 hours (min.) prior to
conducting core drill.
Conduct approved core drills or cuts as per the following guidelines
and procedure.
Provide record drawings to GTAA Project Manager.
Provide as-built structural information upon request to assist the
General Contractor in locating rebar in the structural slab in Terminal
1.
Review proposed penetration locations on site once the obstruction
and reinforcement has been located by the General Contractor.
Provide a field review report commenting on the proposed penetration
locations.
Review Site Specific Safety Plan.
Attend on-site safety review meeting with Contractor and GTAA
Project Manager prior to core drill.
Sign-off on GTAA Core Drilling Permit prior to core drill
Receive Structural Review Report and As-built Records from GTAA
Project Manager.
Input record information into a Core Drilling Database to keep track of
penetrations to the buildings structural slab.

General Guidelines

General Guidelines
Thefollowingisalistofgeneralguidelinesthatshallbefollowedwhenexecutingthe
processoutlinedbelow:
1. Allpenetrationsinanyfloorstructureshallbekepttoaminimumandshall
beplannedinaccordancewiththisdocumentandotherassociatedbuilding
specificguidelinesregardingcoredrilling.Wherepossible,installationsshall
useexistingpenetrations.NewlayoutsshouldbereviewedbyGTAA
ArchitecturalServicespriortoanycoring,andrevisedwhereneededor
required.
2. TheContractorisresponsibletoensurethattheiremployeesorsub
contractorsarecompetent(fullytrainedandknowledgeable).
3. TheContractorshallsubmittheirSiteSpecificSafetytotheTRHGroupfor
reviewofthecontrolmeasures,andsafeworkprocedures.Itshallincludeall
necessaryprecautionstopreventandcaptureanywaterordebristhatmay
fallthoughtheopening,duringoratcompletionof,thecore.
4. Aminimumof24hourspriortoanycoringtheGeneralContractorshall
arrangeanonsitereviewoftheirSiteSpecificSafetyPlanwiththeTRHGroup
andtheGTAAProjectManager.
5. TheContractorshallsubmitallrequiredterminalworkpermitsand/orshut
downrequestsandreceiveconfirmationthattherequestsareapprovedprior
toanyworkcommencing.
6. Barricading,andsignageidentifyingthehazards,shallbeerectedaroundall
workareas,includingtheareabelowwherethecoreisbeingdrilled,toensure
onlythoseinvolvedwiththeworkhaveaccess.
7. Additionally,inanylocationwherethepublicorAirportemployeesare
present,theContractorshallpositionaspottertodirectpersonsawayfrom
theareaduringthecore.
8. Communicationmustbemaintainedbetweenspotterandcoredrillerby
meansof2wayradio.
9. Foradditionalbuildingspecificcoredrillingguidelinespleasereferto
additionalreferencedocumentsoutlinedatthebeginningofthisdocument.

Process
Locating Obstructions and Reinforcement in the Slab
5.1.1.

TheGeneralContractorshallarrangeforscanningofallproposedpenetration
locationsincludingascanforstructural,electrical,andcommunications
obstructions.

5.1.2.

Ifelectricaland/orcommunicationsobstructionsarelocatedintheconcrete
toppingthentheproposedpenetrationmustberelocated.
a. Ifscanningresultsforstructuralobstructionsareinconclusive:the
GeneralContractormaycontacttheDesignatedStructuralEngineerto
requestinformationonthestructuralmakeupoftheslabwithinthe
areaofwork.Usegridlinereferencepointswhenreferencinglocations.
TheDesignatedStructuralEngineerwillprovideinformationonlyto
assistinlocatingrebarintheslab.

Locatedobstructionsmustbeclearlymarkedonthefloorsurfaceforfurther
reviewbythedesignatedstructuralengineer.

Engineering Review
5.2.1.

Oncetheslabreinforcementhasbeenlocated,theGeneralContractorshall
contactDesignatedStructuralEngineertoarrangeasitereviewofthe
proposedpenetrationlocations.

5.2.2.

TheDesignatedStructuralEngineerwillrevieweachproposedpenetration
location.

5.2.3.

Uponcompletionofthesitereview,TheDesignatedStructuralEngineerwill
issueaStructuralReviewReporttotheGeneralContractorasarecordofthe
approval.

Executing Approved Core Drilling


5.3.1.

UponreceiptoftheStructuralReviewReport,theGeneralContractorshall
arrangeanonsitereviewoftheirSiteSpecificSafetyPlanwiththeTRHGroup
andarepresentativeoftheProjectOwner.Thismeetingmusttakeplace24
hoursminimumpriortoanyplannedcoredrill.

5.3.2.

TheGeneralContractorshallprovideacompletedGTAACoreDrilling
PermitdocumentforsignoffbytheTRHgroupandGeneralContractor
duringthesitevisit.

5.3.3.

OncethesafetyplanhasbeenreviewedandtheGTAACoreDrillingPermit
hasbeensignedoff;theGeneralContractormayproceedwithcoredrillingin
allapprovedlocationsaspertheguidelinesoutlinedabove.

Process

5.3.4.

TheGeneralContractorshallarrangeforarepresentativeoftheProjectOwner
tobepresentduringthecoredrillingprocedure.

5.3.5.

Uponcompletionofconstruction,theGeneralContractorshallsubmittothe
GTAA,recorddrawingsofallpenetrationlocations.Theserecordsmust
indicatethesizeofeachholeandthedistanceinrelationtogridlines.

5.3.6.

TheGTAArepresentativeshallprovidetheserecordstoEngineeringDatato
beinputtedintoadatasetinordertomaintainaccuraterecordsof
penetrationsthroughouttheterminalbuilding.
