Year Level /Section:

Science
Grade 7

I Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
Investigate animals with backbones or no backbones (vertebrates,
invertebrates).
Sort animals with backbones into broad groups according (mammals,
amphibians, reptiles, birds, and fish).
Differentiate their observable characteristics.
Investigate where the groups live (in land, in water, etc)
Explain differences on ability to carry out certain processes of live
(movement, respiratory, feeding, excretion, growth, reproduction)
II Subject Matter
Topic: Animals kingdom( vertebrates )
References: Science and Technology textbook, page 120-150
Materials: Teachers book, students worksheet, laptop and projector.
III Procedure
Teacher Activity
A. Preparatory Activities
The Teacher will let the students stand and select a
student to lead the prayer before they will start the
class
a. Motivation
The Teacher will show students few images of animals
including cat, bird, fish which can be the human pets.
Teacher will ask whether those animals are vertebrates
or non-vertebrates. Whether it lays egg or gives birth.
This will try to catch students attention in order to
know their pets behaviours.

b. Exploration
Differentiate groups of animals (Mammals,

Students Activity

amphibians, birds, reptiles, and fish).

Animals are placed into groups because they
have particular features.
For E.g:
Birds have feathers, beaks, wings.
Fish has scales on the body and live in water.
Mammals give birth, look after their babies and
feed them

B. Developmental Activities
a. Oral Activity
The teacher will be discussing on the topic with
powerpoint presentation (slideshows). There will be oral
questioning to encourage the students to discover/ find
the answer. An open discussion is also encouraged by
the teacher in order for them to develop their
communication skills.
b.Practise

( all students will answer)

( students do as told )

Students will be asked to group theirselves. Teacher will

be also offered guidance if they have any difficulties.
Exercise 1 (interactive and stimulated activity online):
The student have to paste the pictures shown to where
the animals grouped. For examples:

Penguin
Squirrel

Birds
- Mammals

c.Application
They will be group by two, first group will do the game
first. Its a sort of charades , the difference is they will
not act but they will give the sounds of animals and
whoever got the answer or guess first and got the
higher scores will be the winner.
d. Analysis
What is the difference between vertebrates
and invertebrates?
Give examples of the groups of vertebrates.
Give examples of the groups of invertebrates

Vertebrates have
backbones whereas
invertebrates dont have
backbones.
Humans,tigers, dogs, cat,
Snail, starfish, butterfly,
jellyfish

What is the difference between amphibians,

reptiles, birds,insects, fishes and mammals?

List examples of each group of animals.

What is the sound of each of the animal?

Mammals Feed their

babies with their own
milk. Amphibians
Are able to live on land
as well as in the water.
Fishes breathe through
gills.
Birds have feathers
Reptiles Have a dry skin
covered with scales.
Mammals monkey,rat
Amphibians- frog, turtle
Reptiles lizard, crocodile
Insects- butterfly, flies
Fishes jellyfish, starfish
Cat meow meow
Dogs- arf arf
