Bacalah dengan (menyebut) nama tuhanmu yang menciptakan. Dia
telah menciptakan manusia dari segumpal darah. Bacalah dan
tuhanmulah yang maha pemurah. Yang mengajar (manusia) dengan
perantaran kalam. Dia mengajar kepada manusia apa yang tidak
diketahuinya. (Q.S Al-Alaq: 1-5)
Reading is making meaning from print and from visual information. But
reading is not simple. Reading is an active process that requires a great deal of
practice and skill. It is a complex task which, as polaccos autobiographical
character trisha noted, seems to go on inside peoples heads like so much magic in
a magicians top hat. In order to be readers, learners must take their ability to
pronounce words and to read pictures and then make the words and images
mean something. Reading comprehension strategies are tools that proficient
readers use to solve the comprehension problems they encounter in texts.2
A teacher must be able to choose the best method which most effective
and efficient so that the student will be able to understand and master the material
being delivered in the teaching and learning process. Teachers also need to know
several strategies that can be used to achieve the objectives of the teaching
process. A teacher, who cannot use the method or technique of teaching, will not
be able to achieve the goal of his/her teaching as maximally as possible. It will
inflict the teachers selves and the student as well, since the quality of the lesson
will not be guaranteed and the childrens courage, attention and seriousness of
studying will be reduced.
Base on the observation in SMPN 6 Kerinci, the researcher found the
students admitted that English as a dificult subject and uninteresting to learn. The
students also get boring and lack of motivation in reading the text. Student
commanded by teacher to hear a passage and then answer the question based on
the text. And The sudents are difficult to comprehend the contents of the text.
Actually English specially reading skill is not possible if the English
teacher uses the uninterested strategy where student just answer the question base
on the text without make some interesting activity in teaching process. So the
teacher should be able to choose the suitable strategy to teach English especially
about reading skill.
It is suggested to choose one of certain strategy must be done in
accordance to the condition and suggestion of the class so that the way of teaching
can encourage the student in order to get a higher result of their study. The student
in SMPN 6 Kerinci often gets the problem such as grammar, text reading, and
vocabulary because those materials never studied when they were at elementary
school. Therefore to increase knowledge of student the teacher should have ability
in teaching by using good strategy to make student more interesting to study and
enjoy it. Digtoglos Strategy is one of the methods which give some leads offers,
courage and the opportunity give to student to study directly and in addition it also
get an ability of good communication and well English structured.
B. Identification of Problem
Based on the background above,there are several problems that the
researcher found in SMPN 6 Kerinci. They are:
1) The students get boring and lack of motivation in reading the text.
2) The sudents are difficult to comprehend the contents of the text.
3) the teacher strategy in teaching English Reading
material is not
interesting.
D. Research Questions
This research attempt to answer the questions below:
1. How the Dictoglos Strategy can improve students reading
comprehension at seventh grade students of SMPN
academic year 2014/2015 ?

E. Purposes of Research
The purpose of the reasearch, such as below:
1. To find out whether Using Dictoglos Strategy can Improve The
students Reading Comprehension at

2. To know the result of Using Dictoglos Strategy in Reading
Comprehension at grade Seventh of SMPN 6 Kerinci
