Practice teaching session.

Discussed my key roles, supplementary evidence, colleague feedback and DO 3 and DO 4 .

1. Supplementary evidence
I told PE that I had not really started my supplementary evidence as I was unsure how to go
about this. PE told me that supplementary evidence was just to demonstrate my understanding so
there was no set way of doing this, instead i should just try, send it to her and she will let me
know whether it meets the requirements.
2. Key Roles
I queried whether all 21 subpoints of the six key roles had to be cross-referenced, PE told me that
the process of doing the key roles is to demonstrate that i understand them to provide good
evidence for my portfolio. She said that I should therefore try to cross-reference all sub-points
with feedback, PLS and direct observations, I expressed uncertainty at this as due to the nature of
my placement with only my OSS working with me on a daily basis, i did not know whether the
feedback i would receive would meet all these roles as my colleagues are not familiar with the
key roles.
3. Colleague and service-user feedback
Showed PE my feedback forms for service-users at my placement area, she questioned whether
they (due to their problems with cognition) would be able to understand the feedback forms, I
told her that i believed that they would as i had used much of the same vocabulary that was
present in the organisational material and had researched some feedback forms for people with
learning disabilities online.
4. DO 3
We discussed the DO that i had just done, she told me that from the feedback it was felt that i had
done well. I told her that i did not feel it went well, and that the privious direct observation with
her had gone better. I attributed this to the fact that with my previous DO as with that one i felt i
had more time beforehand to think about the best way to present information and to prepare
visual material. I also discussed Care Plan meetings that I had previously done in a day centre
where i worked and how i would prepare for these months ahead of the meetings, and use multimedia profiling (video footage and photos) to show what the person had been doing at the day
centre.
PE told me that she felt that my practice showed an over focus on the form that i had to fill rather
than what SU wanted to discuss such as her cat, i said that in reflection i agreed but at the time i

was unsure whether if i would have spent more time discussing topics other than the action plan,
it may have been suggested that i lacked focus. I also agreed that visual information such as
photos would have been beneficial in helping SU understand what we were talking about as she
had appeared intimidated by fact that everyone in the room.
PE also discussed my DO form with me, she said that it was very long, contained unnecessay
information and i should try to make it shorter, i agreed and said that i will redraft this before it
went in my portfolio and make the paper work for my final DO shorter and more sucinct.
5.DO 4
We discussed my final DO, said that I was still planning on doing a presentation, however I had
changed the topic from anti-oppressive practice to learning disabilities and health inequalties as i
felt that this would be more informative for the audience and would not appear as if i was
attacking my collegues practice. I was however concerned with presenting a health-related topic
in a social context in a way that would be relevent to the people who wsould be listening. PE said
that she was a bit concerned, in social work we use a social model of intervention rather than a
medical one and i should make sure that i am explicit that i make this explicit and do not
overfocus on physical health.
I said that OM had told me to contact him when i was ready to present and he would arrange for
a few people to attend.PE reminded me that we were approaching the end of my placement and i
should ensure that i pace myself as she would be very busy for the next few months and should
ensure that i build in enough time for her to check my work.
