Wattmeter WD2250B

Measurement and Instruction

Technical characteristics

Current ranges: 0.1A, 0.5A, 1A, 5A

Voltage ranges: 3V, 15V, 30V, 240V, 450V
Power measured: From 0.3 W rated capacity to 2250 W rated
capacity
5 digits LCD display
Accuracy: About 2% at the full current and voltage scale
Select the A V W switch on the different range, the LCD can
display the corresponding numerical value of the current or
voltage or power respectivelySelect the suitable range of the
current and voltage, the display accuracy of the current or
voltage is 1% and the power is 2%
Frequently range:0 to 3 kHz at -3dB

Powered by 4 AA alkaline 1.5V LR6 type batteries

Indication of the battery level by the LBT symbol on the
display
Battery saver: automatic shutdown of the wattmeter after 200s
The running time of the wattmeter is about 10 hours in
continuous operation with alkaline batteries
Protection against over-currents by fuses
Class II device, compliant with the EN 61010-1 ed 93 standard
Compliant with the Low Voltage Directive 73/23/CEE and
CEM Directive 89/336/CEE

2 Replacing the batteries

The 4 batteries are housed in the box of the device
At first, open the device with the cross head driver by screwing
off four is a black battery box. Then pull out the cable between
the battery box and the mainboard, and crew off the bolt on the
top of the battery box. Lastly push down the upper top of the
black box, and open it.
Caution: Open the battery box only when the wattmeter is
completely disconnected.

3 Replacing the fuses

Connection of the fuses in the Wattmeter measurement circuit:
2

Location of the fuses:

The fuses are installed in fuse holders on the side of the device,
which can be accessed from the outside. Make a quarter turn
with a screwdriver and remove the small slot holding the fuse.
Use only very fast acting fuses, size 6.3 x 32 mm and respect the
value indicated and the operating voltage (500V) so as not to
jeopardize the safety of the persons or that of the device.
Value of the fuses:
Range 0.1A ----F0.5A
Range 0.5A ----F1A
Range 1A ----F2A
Range 5A ----F6A
Caution: replace the fuses only when the device is completely
3

disconnected.

4 Over-current/
/over-voltage indication
When the current or voltage exceed the selected range, the LCD
displays A FU or U FU and flickers, then the user needs to select
the more suitable range immediately.

5 Using the wattmeter on a simple assembly

The device is switched on by pressing lightly on the red button,
it then remains on for 200s.
Caution: Always measure the voltage at the output of the
Wattmeter between the Red and Black terminals on the right of
the box.

a) Power measurement on a simple assembly (assembly

as shown above)
4

In DC: For example, we apply an adjustable voltage from 0 to

30 V between L1 and L2 on a resistive load. If we measure 25V
and 0.9A, we must read 22.5W on the wattmeter is 2 %
accuracy.
In AC: For example, we apply a mains voltage (230 Vrms)
between L1 and L2 to an electric household equipment motor. If
we measure 225Vrms and 0.4Arms, the power read on the read
on the wattmeter will help deduce the power factor by P = k U I.
Caution: When looking for accuracy in an experiment, it is
recommended that the results be compared with measurements
of U and I carried out with an accurate multimeter (at least
0.5%), and when in AC, with TRMS multimeters (actual rms
value).
b) Power measurement for an R,L,C circuit
Supply voltage: 12Vrms 50Hz
Current: I=U/Z<0.1A
Set-up:

Perform the following set-up if you wish to measure only the

power consumed by the resistance:
5

Other possible set-up:

To perform a measurement, the WD2250B ENERGY METER must:
On the one hand measure the current, the current circuit being
between the Red terminals on the left (select the terminal
according to the range) and the Red terminal on the right.
On the other hand, measure the voltage between the Red
terminal and the Black terminal on the right.
Thus it is possible to use the device in the following manner:

Where the power consumed is measured by R when the current

passes through R, L and C.
