1.
PURPOSE
The Purpose of this procedure is to prepare the Methodology of Earthwork in
Excavation.
2.
REFERENCE
Tender Specification 1019 162 202 and drawing for work at civil Stations.
3.
SCOPE
This procedure covers the excavation required for permanent works, pits and
trenches for the foundation of structures, manholes, catch basins and trenches
for drainage pipes, utilities, ducts and cables.
4.0
PROCEDURE
Method described below will be followed for excavations required for
permanent works, foundations pits and trenches of structures and buildings,
pipes, ducts and cables in trenches around exiting structures.
4.1
Before taking up any work, spot levels with predetermined grids are to be
jointly checked and recorded with GSPL.
4.2
Erect transverse survey pillars and intermediate grid pillars with reference
to coordinates from the existing approved reference pillar and get it checked
by GSPL with drawings.
4.3
Ensure no under ground live cables / Pipes / drains are crossing in excavation
area. The necessary permission to start the work in the area of same has to
be taken. Any of U/G services should be identified prior to excavation by using
cable detectors and pilot trenches (Manual Excavation) to identify and protect
U/G services (Suitable Devices).

Excavation for foundation pits shall be done as per drawings with sufficient
working space all round as per site requirement.
The side of excavation shall be cut in or shored and strutted to hold the face of
earth as per site.

Excavation will be carried out with the help of suitable Excavators Trolleys will
be used for transport of Excavated earth.

Excavated material shall be kept at safe distance from the edge of excavated
site.
4.11
Excavated area will be fully supported with the help of suitable/ required
supports like timber, steel trench sheeting etc. in order to prevent movement of
adjoining ground.
4.12
Guard railings and toe boards will be provided for safety purpose around
excavated area.
4.13
Suitable capacity Pumps will be installed for dewatering the excavated area. If
required and proper drainage arrangement will be made for disposing off the
water.

Will be followed as per tender specification, and construction drawings.
