ABSTRACT
With the advent of rising sexually transmitted infections especially HIV among
males having sex with males the group aspires to understand the dynamics of same-sex
relationships as it is understood and experienced by sexually curious and maturing
adolescents of our society. To accomplish such we interviewed eleven grade ten students
from a selected public high school with the following four main questions that sought to
know their understanding about the issue, establish the source and means of origin of
their initial exposure, elaborate their individual experiences and determine their stand.
After careful analysis of the themes inducted from the interviews, it can be concluded
that: the adolescents understood same-sex relationship as both a physical encounter and
an emotional experience of being in a relationship but with apparent indifference towards
the matter; their initial exposure to the issue are usually from the mass media, family and
close friends and the general community; their experiences are both direct and indirect
where the direct experience elucidates the person as the one being involved in the samesex relationship while the indirect experience entails the individual being the observer of
the homosexual act or the recipient of the information from significant others; and lastly,
their stand upon the issue is a combination of those who agree, disagree and those who
are partial to both sides where the underpinnings of such stand corresponds respectively
to the theories of postmodernism, premodernism and Freudian defense mechanism.
ACKNOWLEDGMENT
Firstly, we would love to express our sincere gratitude to our beloved mentor, Dr.
Balintawak Gareza for her patience in guiding us throughout the research process. Her
efforts in motivating and imparting her knowledge in the field helped us tackle the
difficulties that confronted us on our own research. She is one of a kind and we could not
ask for a better mentor.
We would also like to thank the principal, Mrs. Josefa Jopson as well as the rest of
the faculty and staff of Domingo Lacson National High School for allowing us to conduct
our research involving the grade ten students of the school as our participants and also
permitting us to use the school facilities for the purpose of interview. Our research would
not have proceeded as planned without their kind mediation
Then, we will like to communicate our great gratitude to our participants who
allowed themselves to be interviewed for our research. Without their participation our
research would have been merely nonexistent.
Lastly, we would like to thank our parents for their kind consideration and
supporting us wholeheartedly in our work as well as God who made all things possible
