PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

CERTAINTEED CORPORATION, Blue Bell, PA 1983 – 2009

Senior Principal Process Engineer – Process Group (2005 – November 2009)

Served as plants process/quality expert, consultant and managed a variety of process improvements projects
at four major fiber glass facilities in the U.S. and two in Canada. Our Kansas City facility contains the largest
Building Insulation line in the world. Successfully managed all production line activities. Helped maintain
EPA compliance for all U.S. environmental equipment and manage teams in excess of 45 people.
• Initiated and drove quality/continuous process improvement efforts to safely eliminate product and
packaging waste. This effort resulted in saving the Ottawa, Canada facility approximately $75,000
annually through equipment modifications
• My efforts in the annual quality and continuous improvements benchmark studies significantly
improved production reliability and saved approximately $125,000 annually at all 6 locations. Best
Practices noted at one facility are always communicated to all other facilities.
• Lead a team to design, Implemented and install a high speed adhesive application system to
prevent the stapling tabs from opening during the production process resulting in tab damaged during the
packaging process. Trained all operators at the 4 USA facilities. The project saved product waste in the
amount of $150,000 annually.
• Planned, organized and managed a team to investigate plant process trials at our U.S. and
Canadian facilities to determine which facility is most capable to produce a specific new product the most
efficiently.
• Formed a benchmarking sub-team to evaluate product quality, production equipment and
document best equipment settings for maximum product quality and production efficiencies.
• Conducted studies to improve quality, time/material efficiencies, reduce waste and improve
customer satisfaction.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE (CONTINUED)

Principal Product Development Engineer – New Product Development Group (1997 – 2005)
Conceived and developed new building insulation products. Worked with contractors, distributors,
installers and retailers (The Home Depot) to determine individual quality requirements. In order to further
quality and develop continuous improvements efforts, conducted job site quality and safety inspections,
worked with raw material vendors to determine root causes of material non-compliance and teamed with
vendor’s technical support to solve non-compliance issues. Managed teams in excess of 20 people.
• In an effort to our commitment to quality and continuous improvement I team up with Trumbull
Asphalt’s technical support team to implement minor asphalt formulation changes, which in turn reduced
asphalt costs and improved overall product quality. Saved the USA plants well over $150,000 annually.
• Achieved $125,000 per year cost savings by partnering with ExoPack’s technical support team to
make raw material formulation changes.
• Documented, updated and maintained all building insulation product specifications as a production
resource.
• Created an electronic quality defect section on all product specifications to reduce waste and
provide consistency in quality inspections across all U.S. manufacturing locations.
• Submitted 16 invention disclosures and awarded 4 patents.

ADDITIONAL POSITIONS HELD AT CERTAINTEED CORPORATION (1983 – 1997)

Process/Quality Manager
• Held an integral role in the ISO 9000 certification process through training in excess of 140
unionized employees on basic ISO 9000 concepts, requirements and the auditing process, which led to
the plant receiving certification on the first attempt. Documentation and training was later implemented at
other U.S. facilities. Received the CertainTeed “Star” award for my contributions that led to ISO
certification.
• Drove all continuous process projects to successful completion.

Production/Quality Manager
• 45 unionized direct reports were recognized for product quality, continuous production
improvements, waste reduction, high quality production levels, reduced customer complaints and no
major safety concerns.

Warehouse Manager
• 20 unionized direct reports were recognized for high load factors, reduced product damage and
reduced customer complaints.
