Vertical Transportation Services Design Report

Introduction
This document has been prepared to outline the design for the vertical transportation services for the
Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka, Bangladesh

a) Scope of Work
Vertical Transportation Services will comprise the following:

Passenger lifts

Service/Fire man lifts

Dumbwaiter

Fire mode provisions

Building Automation System

Standards and Regulations

The transportation services will be designed, installed and tested in accordance with the
following Standards and Regulations.
a) Bangladesh National Building Code
BNBC
b) European Standard Safety rules for the construction and installation of lifts
EN81
c) European Standard Safety of Escalators and Moving Walks

EN115

d) The Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (Guide D)

CIBSE
e) American Society of Mechanical Engineers,
ASME, A17.1

Definitions
The following terms will be used throughout this report:

Interval Time: The average interval time indicates the frequency an elevator
leaves the main lift lobby during peak condition.

Handling Capacities: The Handing Capacity shows the percentage of the

design building population that the vertical transportation system can transport in
five minutes, in peak conditions with each lift car loaded to 80% of its rated
capacity for service apartment and loaded to 50% of its rated capacity for hotel.
The car loaded to 50% for accommodate luggage and provide guests with
uncrowded travel condition.

Table 3.2 below relates the arrival rate (handling capacity) and the interval times (this
table is by CIBSE)

Fire Mode Provisions

Each lift controller will have an input from the building fire alarm system. The controller will use this
signal to drive each lift to a pre-designated floor in fire mode.
Fireman lift power supplies cables will be fire rated type.
One lift will be designated for fire brigade use and be provided with a fire rated firemans lift lobby.
Each fire lift and lift lobby will be pressurised to reduce the possibility of smoke entering.

Building Automation System

The transportation systems in building will be monitored by a comprehensive, state of the art Building
Automation System incorporating Direct Digital Controls.

Key characteristics of the BAS will include:

Interface with lift controllers for monitoring, fault and alarm reporting.

Two head end computers will be provided one in the engineering department and one in back office
room.

Security System Interfaces

The lift system will be interfaced to the security system as follows:

Lift access card will be provide low level interface panel (voltage free, relay based) in a locked
termination box and wiring between box and security system control point.

Each lift car will be provided with a card reader as part of the operating panel and a CCTV
camera at ceiling.

Trailing cables will be provided for CCTV camera, card reader, relay interface, point of TV and
EWIS speaker plus 10% spare.

Point of TV
The LCD for each passenger lift car willl be 15 screen view, full colour with flexible software fully
programmable centralised system. The features will include:

Time and Date

Floor level indication

Animated up/down direction indication

Hotel information / logos

Scrolling message

News, weather sports and advertising message

Voice annunciation and streaming audio/video

Finishing
a) Car Operation Panel
Guestroom passenger lift cars will have a single car operation panel, microtouch self illuminating call
buttons designed for people with disabilities. The finishing will be selected by Interior designer /
Architect.
Fireman and Service lift cars will each have a single car operation panel, microtouch self illuminating
call buttons and stainless steel hairline manufacturers standard.
LED car position indicator will be provided for each service lift car.
